Kava is a Layer 1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, with Ethereum compatibility added so developers can use familiar tools. Sources describe it as a co-chain design: a Cosmos side for speed and cross-chain connectivity, and an EVM side for Solidity apps and Ethereum wallets. It runs on proof-of-stake, where token holders stake to help secure the network.

The native token is KAVA. It is used for staking, for governance votes, and for paying transaction fees. Fees are set by the network and can change, so check your wallet for the current cost before you transact. DeFi TVL on Kava was about $19.8M at the time of writing, a small figure compared with the biggest chains.

Kava began as a platform for borrowing against crypto collateral, and DeFi is still its main use. On our site, the Kava-linked dApps include the decentralized exchanges Kava Swap, Blueshift and WAGMI, the CDP lender Abracadabra Spell, the delta-neutral vault ScrubVault, and the yield optimizer Kogefarm. The wider list also includes multichain names such as LayerZero V2, Stargate V2 and SushiSwap, plus exchanges like Binance, so check each dApp's page to see what it actually supports on Kava.

Frequently asked questions

What is Kava?

Kava is a Layer 1 blockchain that combines the Cosmos SDK with Ethereum-style developer tools. It started as a platform for collateralized lending and stablecoins and now hosts a broader set of DeFi apps.

Is Kava EVM compatible?

Yes, Kava supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts through its EVM side, so Solidity apps and common Ethereum wallets can work with it. It also has a Cosmos side, which is what gives it the Cosmos-style tooling and cross-chain focus.

What is the KAVA token used for?

KAVA is the native token. Search sources describe it as being used to secure the network through staking, to vote in governance, and to pay network fees. Check Kava's current documentation for exact parameters before staking.

How many Kava dApps are on this site?

We list 53 dApps for Kava. Many are multichain projects that also run elsewhere, while a few, such as Kava Swap, are mainly or wholly Kava-based.

What kinds of dApps run on Kava?

DeFi is the main category. The Kava-linked entries include decentralized exchanges (Kava Swap, Blueshift, WAGMI), a CDP lender (Abracadabra Spell), a basis-trading vault (ScrubVault) and a yield optimizer (Kogefarm).

How big is Kava's DeFi ecosystem?

Total value locked in Kava DeFi was about $19.8M at the time of writing, which is modest next to the largest chains. Smaller liquidity can mean wider spreads and thinner markets, so size your trades accordingly.

Are Kava dApps safe to use?

No DeFi app is risk-free. Smart contract bugs, thin liquidity and shut-down projects are real risks, and EmpireDEX, for example, is now described by third-party sources as closed. Check each dApp's status and audits, and only use funds you can afford to lose.

What is the largest dApp on Kava by TVL?

Binance CEX is the largest dApp on Kava by total value locked, with $127B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by LayerZero V2 ($17.9B) and Bitget ($5.93B). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
