TON, short for The Open Network, is a layer-1 blockchain that Telegram originally developed. It is built as a network of connected chains. A main chain coordinates the system, and workchains and shards split the load so that more transactions can be processed in parallel. Smart contracts run as separate actors that communicate by messages. TON is not EVM-based, and tokens follow the Jetton standard, which is also how USDT is issued on the network.

The native token is GRAM, formerly known as Toncoin. It pays network fees and can be staked, which is why liquid staking is one of the main DeFi categories on TON. Fees are paid in GRAM, and the exact cost varies, so check your wallet before you confirm a transaction. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on TON was about $43.0M, a modest figure next to the largest chains.

The native ecosystem is known for its Telegram connection and its staking apps. Tonstakers, Hipo, KTON, Stakee and bemo offer liquid staking. STON.fi and DeDust are the main decentralized exchanges, and Storm Trade offers perpetual futures. Ethena tsUSDe brings a yield-bearing dollar to the chain. TAC Cross Chain Layer, Symbiosis and Orbit Bridge link TON to other networks. Several big centralized exchanges, including Binance, OKX and Bitget, also appear on this page because they support TON.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TON blockchain?

TON is The Open Network, a layer-1 blockchain that Telegram originally developed. It is built as a network of connected chains with a main coordinating chain and workchains, and it is designed to scale by splitting work across shards.

What is the native token of TON?

The native token is GRAM, which the data on this page notes was formerly called Toncoin. It pays for transactions and smart contract execution, and it can be staked through protocols such as Tonstakers, Hipo and KTON.

Is TON compatible with Ethereum and the EVM?

No, TON is not EVM-based. It has its own architecture and smart contract model, and tokens use the Jetton standard. Bridges such as TAC Cross Chain Layer and Symbiosis connect TON assets to EVM chains.

How are fees paid on TON?

Fees are paid in GRAM. The exact cost depends on the transaction and network conditions, so check the current fee in your wallet before you confirm. This page does not quote a fixed fee.

Which dApps are popular on TON?

The best-known native DeFi apps listed here are STON.fi and DeDust for swaps, Storm Trade for perpetual futures, and Tonstakers, Hipo, Stakee, KTON and bemo for liquid staking. Our scores and descriptions help you compare them, but they are not financial advice.

Why do centralized exchanges appear in a TON dApp list?

Many of the largest entries, such as Binance, OKX and Bitget, are centralized exchanges that support several chains, including TON. Their large reserve figures are spread across networks and are not DeFi activity on TON. Native DeFi TVL on TON was about $43.0M at the time of writing.

Are there risks in using TON dApps?

Yes. Smart contracts can have bugs, liquid staking tokens can lose value against the staked asset, and leveraged products like perpetual futures can lead to fast losses. Use only money you can afford to lose, and read each project's audits and documentation before you deposit.

What is the largest dApp on TON by TVL?
