Our verdict on SwissBorg

7.4/10

SwissBorg suits European beginners and intermediate users who want one regulated app that finds the best price across exchanges and offers Auto-Invest, Earn and a card. Its main strength is the breadth of tools, backed by stated MiCA compliance. The main caveat is custody and cost clarity: you rely on the company holding your assets, fees are not on the homepage, and the best perks depend on locking the volatile BORG token.

What is SwissBorg?

SwissBorg is a mobile app for buying, selling and trading crypto, aimed mainly at European users. It says it operates in 47 countries and calls itself an exchange aggregator rather than an exchange or wallet. DefiLlama lists it under centralized exchanges, with roughly $862 million in TVL and a listing date of November 2022.

The homepage reports about 922.6K verified users, 228.4K BORG holders in the app, more than 230 corporate accounts and $1.209B in user crypto assets. These are the company's own figures and have not been independently checked here.

Beyond trading, the app offers Auto-Invest, Trigger Orders, Earn, Crypto Bundles, a crypto card and business accounts. It states it is fully MiCA compliant and licensed in Europe, while also carrying a high-risk investment warning.

How SwissBorg works

SwissBorg is an app that sits on top of other trading venues. When you place an order, its Smart Engine looks across several exchanges and picks the route with the best available price. SwissBorg says it is an exchange aggregator, not a wallet or an exchange itself.

On top of trading, the app bundles tools such as Auto-Invest, which buys a fixed amount on a schedule, and Trigger Orders, which fire when a price target is hit. It also offers Earn products, Crypto Bundles and a Mastercard crypto card.

The BORG token ties it together. Locking BORG raises your Rank in the loyalty system, which the site links to higher cashback on fees paid in BORG, boosted yields, access to private token sales and voting power. DefiLlama tracks it as a centralized exchange-type service with about $862 million in TVL.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Smart order routing across several exchanges aims to get the best price in one app.
  • Auto-Invest and Trigger Orders suit beginners who want to automate buys.
  • Stated MiCA compliance and European licensing give a regulatory framework.
  • Wide range of services in one place: earn, bundles, a Mastercard card and business accounts.
  • Large published coverage of more than 85,425 trading pairs, according to the site.
  • Mobile apps on iOS and Android make it accessible to newcomers.

Watch out for

  • The BORG token drives cashback, yield boosts and voting power, so the best terms depend on locking a volatile asset.
  • DefiLlama lists no audits for the protocol, and the homepage does not detail third-party security audits.
  • Fees are not laid out on the homepage, so the real cost of a trade is unclear until you check in the app.
  • Yield of up to 15% per year is a headline maximum; the project does not say which tokens qualify or how rates change.
  • Homepage figures are inconsistent on coverage: the meta description says 12 currencies, while the FAQ says 16.
  • Crypto remains high-risk; the site itself warns you should not expect protection if something goes wrong.

SwissBorg fees

SwissBorg's homepage does not publish a fee schedule. It says users can earn BORG cashback on trading fees by locking BORG, which implies trading fees exist and can be partly offset by rank.

The page markets itself as buying and selling crypto at low fees, but that is a claim rather than a number. Users should check the price, spread and any fees shown in the app before confirming a trade, and compare them with other platforms.

Is SwissBorg safe?

SwissBorg says it is fully MiCA compliant and licensed in Europe, and states it strives for strong compliance, security and transparency. The project does not name the specific licences, regulators or audits. DefiLlama lists no audits for it. A recent article on the site covers how SwissBorg holds user crypto, which suggests a custodial model: you rely on the company rather than holding your own keys.

Because assets are held by a company, counterparty risk applies. The site itself warns that this is a high-risk investment and you should not expect protection if something goes wrong. Only invest what you can afford to lose, and check the legal and security pages before depositing.

How to get started with SwissBorg

  2. 2

Download the iOS or Android app from an official store and sign up.

  3. 3

Complete identity verification, as the platform reports verified users and is MiCA-regulated.

  4. 4

Deposit euros or another supported currency, and review the quoted price and fees.

  5. 5

Make a first purchase, or set up Auto-Invest or a Trigger Order.

  6. 6

Decide whether locking BORG fits your risk tolerance before buying it for the rank benefits.

Who SwissBorg is for

SwissBorg is best for crypto-curious users in supported European countries who prefer a single mobile app over juggling several exchanges. It also fits people who want recurring buys, price-triggered orders and some yield. Those who want self-custody or fully transparent fee tables should look at how custody and costs work before depositing.
