Celestia is a modular blockchain. Instead of doing everything on one chain, it handles two jobs: ordering transactions and keeping their data available. Execution, meaning the running of apps and smart contracts, is left to other chains, usually rollups, that post their data to Celestia. It uses data availability sampling, where nodes check small random pieces of each block rather than downloading all of it, so the network can in theory handle more data as more nodes join. Celestia is not an EVM chain, though rollups built on top of it can choose an EVM or another execution environment. It went live on mainnet in late 2023.
The native token is TIA. It is used to pay fees when rollups publish data and to stake with validators who secure the network. Fees depend on how much data is posted and how busy the network is, so they change over time. Rollup users pay fees on the rollup itself, which then covers its own data costs on Celestia.
Because Celestia is a base layer for data rather than an app platform, its ecosystem looks different from a typical smart contract chain. The dApps listed on this page are few. Stride is a Cosmos-focused liquid staking protocol that supports Celestia, so you can stake and keep a tradable receipt token. Bitget, Gate, SwissBorg and Gate US are centralized exchanges that appear here as multi-chain platforms. Check each one for current TIA support and availability in your region before you use it.

Celestia FAQs
What is Celestia?
Celestia is a modular blockchain that focuses on ordering transactions and making sure their data is available, rather than running smart contracts itself. Other chains, often rollups, handle execution and post their data to Celestia. It launched its mainnet on October 31, 2023.
Is Celestia an EVM chain?
No. Celestia does not execute smart contracts, so it is not an EVM chain in the usual sense. Rollups that use it for data can run an EVM or another execution environment, and those rollups are where most app logic lives.
What is data availability sampling?
Data availability sampling lets light nodes check small random pieces of a block instead of downloading all of it. If enough nodes sample successfully, the network can be confident the full data was published. This is how Celestia aims to scale as more people run nodes.
What is the TIA token used for?
TIA is the native token of Celestia. It is used to pay fees for publishing data to the network and for staking to help secure it. Fee levels vary with demand, so check current figures in a wallet or explorer before you transact.
Which dApps on this page work with Celestia?
Stride is the dApp here that lists Celestia among its supported chains. It is a liquid staking protocol, and its TVL was about $4.0M at the time of writing. The exchanges on this page, Bitget, Gate, SwissBorg and Gate US, are listed because they are multi-chain platforms.
Can I trade TIA on the exchanges listed here?
Not necessarily. Centralized exchanges hold your funds and support specific assets and networks, and that support changes. Check the exchange's own asset list and your local rules before depositing or trading TIA or anything else.
