TRX

Tron is a layer 1 blockchain launched in 2017 by a Singapore-based team. It runs on delegated proof of stake: TRX holders vote for a small set of validators, called Super Representatives, who produce blocks. The aim is fast confirmation and low costs rather than maximum decentralization. Smart contracts are supported through a virtual machine that works with Solidity tooling, though Tron is its own network with its own address format and TRC20 token standard.

The native token is TRX. It is used to pay for network resources, to stake for voting power and to take part in governance. Instead of a simple gas price, Tron charges for bandwidth and energy, which you obtain by staking TRX or by burning it when you send a transaction. Fees are generally low, which is a big reason the chain is popular for stablecoin transfers. At the time of writing, Tron's DeFi TVL is about $4.97B.

The 173 dApps on our site for Tron are dominated by centralized exchanges that hold assets on the chain, including Binance, OKX, Bitget, Gate and HTX. On the decentralized side, the SUNSwap V1, V2 and V3 exchanges are the native names for swapping TRC20 tokens and providing liquidity. Bridges and cross-chain tools such as LayerZero V2, USDT0 and NEAR Intents also link Tron to other networks. Many of these services are custodial, so check regulation, custody and local availability before you use them.

Tron FAQs

What is Tron?

Tron is a smart-contract blockchain founded in 2017 by a Singapore-based team. It runs on delegated proof of stake and is widely used for moving stablecoins and for running dApps such as the SUNSwap exchanges. Its native token is TRX.

What is the TRX token used for?

TRX is Tron's native token. It is used to pay for network resources, to stake for voting power and to take part in governance. Many users also hold it simply to cover transaction costs on the chain.

How does Tron reach consensus?

Tron uses delegated proof of stake. TRX holders vote for a limited group of validators, known as Super Representatives, who produce blocks. This design aims for high throughput and low fees, with the trade-off that block production is concentrated among fewer participants than on some other chains.

Are Tron transaction fees low?

Fees on Tron are paid through network resources, which you get by staking TRX or by burning TRX when you transact. Costs are generally low, but they vary with the type of transaction, and contract calls usually cost more than simple transfers. Check the current cost in your wallet before confirming.

Is Tron compatible with Ethereum?

The Tron virtual machine is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine's contract tooling, so Solidity developers can build there with familiar tools. Tron is still its own network with its own address format and TRC20 token standard. You cannot use an Ethereum wallet setup on it without a compatible wallet.

Which dApps are the biggest on Tron?

Much of the activity listed here comes from centralized exchanges such as Binance, OKX, Bitget, Gate and HTX, which hold assets on Tron. On the decentralized side, the SUNSwap V1, V2 and V3 exchanges are native to Tron. Bridges like USDT0 and NEAR Intents also connect the chain to others.

Are all dApps on Tron decentralized?

Not necessarily. Many listings on this page are custodial exchanges, where the platform holds your funds, and that carries different risks from self-custody DeFi. Check each service's regulation, custody model and whether it is available where you live before depositing anything.

What is the largest dApp on Tron by TVL?

Binance CEX is the largest dApp on Tron by total value locked, with $127B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by OKX ($28.4B) and LayerZero V2 ($16.7B). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which dApp on Tron has the highest DappsAtlas score?

OKX has the highest score at 8.0/10, ahead of LayerZero V2 (8.0) and Across (8.0). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many dApps are on Tron?

DappsAtlas tracks 229 dApps on Tron. Of these, 229 have a full review and 76 report value locked, $202B in total, counting value on every chain they support.

What are the most common types of dApps on Tron?

Centralized Exchanges (45), High Risk (18) and DEXes (14) are the largest categories on Tron, by number of projects.

Which dApps on Tron grew the most this week?

Among dApps with at least $1M locked, Hotcoin had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+419%) and Pay Protocol the biggest drop (−52.0%). Combined TVL moved −3.8% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for dApps on Tron?

The 115 rated dApps on Tron average 6.0 out of 10. Of these, 3 score 8 or higher and 16 score below 5.
