What Sun Token is

Sun Token (SUN) is the governance token of SUN.io, a DeFi platform built on the Tron network. SUN.io describes itself as a one-stop platform for stablecoin swaps, token mining (earning rewards for supplying liquidity) and self-governance. The SUN token is meant to tie these parts together.

The project text compares SUN to governance tokens such as CRV from Curve DAO and EPS from Ellipsis. In that model, a token is used to steer a stablecoin-focused exchange and to direct reward emissions. Holders are said to receive voting rights, a share of value captured by the platform, and staking rewards.

The description refers to a redenomination, after which the current SUN became the "new" token. This is why some listings label it "Sun [New]". The earlier history of the token is therefore not a clean comparison with the version trading today.

SUN is not a payment coin and does not run its own blockchain. It is a token that lives on Tron and gains meaning mainly through the SUN.io ecosystem.

What SUN is used for

The main public use of SUN is governance and incentives within SUN.io. Project material says holders can vote on matters such as how liquidity mining rewards are allocated, protocol changes and fee settings, and treasury questions handled through the SUN DAO.

There are also incentive uses. SUN is described as a reward for people who supply liquidity to pools on the platform, and some descriptions say it is used to share profits from Curve-style pools. Recent write-ups also mention locking SUN into a vote-escrow form called veSUN. In this design, holders commit tokens for a period in exchange for more voting weight and reward influence. Exact lock lengths, reward rates and fee shares can change through governance, so check the current platform documentation before relying on any detail.

Some third-party articles list extra ways to spend SUN, such as travel bookings. Those depend on outside services rather than on the protocol, so treat them as optional extras and not as core utility.

Supply and tokenomics

According to the data at hand, the maximum supply of SUN is about 19.9 billion tokens, and the total supply matches that figure. Circulating supply is about 19.21 billion, which means nearly all tokens exist in the market already. Some articles round the maximum to 20 billion, but the tracked figure is closer to 19.9 billion.

As of 2026-11-05, the price was about $0.0157, giving a market capitalization of roughly $301 million and a fully diluted valuation of about $312 million. The token ranked around 135 by market cap. Daily trading volume was about $8.4 million. The small gap between market cap and fully diluted value suggests little supply is still locked or unreleased.

This summary does not cover the allocation split between community, team, treasury and liquidity programs, or any vesting schedule, because that detail is not. Anyone who wants to understand dilution or insider holdings should read the project's own tokenomics documents.

Chains and how SUN is held and traded

SUN is issued on Tron and is not the native coin of any chain. Tron's native asset is TRX, and you will need a small amount of TRX, or the resource system Tron uses, to pay for transactions when moving or using SUN.

Holding SUN requires a wallet that supports Tron tokens. You can use it on SUN.io for swapping, providing liquidity and governance. It is also traded on centralized exchanges, where listings and trading pairs differ by platform and region. Availability can change, and some services restrict users in certain countries.

When sending SUN, check that the address and network are both Tron. Sending tokens over a mismatched network is a common cause of lost funds. Because the token is available on large exchanges, liquidity is reasonable for a mid-cap asset, but daily volume is only a small fraction of market cap, so large orders can still move the price.

History and notable events

The launch date of the current SUN token is not stated publicly available here, so this page avoids guessing. What is known is that SUN.io positioned itself as an early large DeFi hub on Tron, and that a redenomination created the "new" SUN token that is traded today.

Tracked price data shows an all-time high of about $66.45 on 2020-09-10 and an all-time low of about $0.00462 on 2022-11-13. The 2020 high likely reflects the earlier token before the redenomination, so it should not be read as a level the current token fell from. The low in late 2022 came during a broad market downturn.

As of 2026-11-05, SUN was down about 3.8% over seven days and about 26.5% over one year, based on the tracked data. These are past moves and say nothing about what comes next. No hacks or specific governance disputes are covered, so none are asserted here.

Risks to understand

Like most governance tokens, SUN carries several risks.

Market risk. The price is volatile and has fallen sharply over long periods. Mid-cap tokens can move quickly on news, exchange listings or shifts in sentiment.

Smart contract risk. SUN.io relies on contracts for swaps, pools and staking. Bugs or exploits can lead to lost funds, even in audited systems. Check which audits exist and what they covered.

Ecosystem dependence. SUN's usefulness depends on SUN.io activity and on the Tron network. If trading or liquidity on the platform declines, so does the practical value of voting rights and rewards.

Governance and concentration risk. Governance power often sits with large holders or locked positions, so small holders may have little influence. Rules can also be changed by votes.

Regulatory risk. Rules for DeFi tokens differ by country and may change, which can affect exchange access.

How to store SUN safely

For SUN, the safest options start with a wallet you control. A hardware wallet that supports Tron tokens keeps your private keys offline, and is generally better for any holding you do not plan to move often. Software wallets are easier for frequent use with SUN.io but are exposed to malware and phishing.

Write your recovery phrase on paper or metal, store it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff. Before connecting a wallet to any DeFi site, check that you have the genuine address, because fake sites imitating popular platforms are common.

When approving token spending for a dApp, review what the approval allows and revoke ones you no longer need. Test with a small transfer first, and confirm the network is Tron. Keeping tokens on an exchange is convenient, but then the exchange controls the keys, so decide how much you are comfortable leaving there.

By the numbers

Sun Token in numbers

Sun Token (SUN) is ranked #134 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $298M and a price of $0.0155 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($309M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 5.8% over 7 days, down 8.1% over 30 days, down 28.9% over the past year. It trades about 100% below its all-time high of $66.45, set on Sep 10, 2020.

About 19.21B SUN are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 19.9B (97% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $8.70M, or 2.9% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

SUN has token contracts on Tron. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

Which blockchain does SUN run on?

SUN is issued on Tron and does not have its own blockchain. You need a Tron-compatible wallet and a little TRX for network fees when using it.

What is the total supply of SUN?

The tracked maximum supply is about 19.9 billion tokens, and circulating supply is about 19.21 billion. Some articles round the maximum to 20 billion, but the tracked figure is slightly lower.
