What Pendle is

Pendle is a DeFi protocol for tokenizing and trading future yield. It takes a yield-bearing asset, such as a staked or interest-bearing token, and splits it into two separate tokens. The Principal Token (PT) represents the underlying value and can be redeemed for the asset at maturity. The Yield Token (YT) represents the yield the asset earns until that maturity date.

Because the two parts trade separately, users can pick the exposure they want. Buying a PT at a discount to the underlying asset locks in a fixed return if held to maturity. Buying a YT is a bet that the yield will turn out higher than the market currently expects. Pendle built an automated market maker designed for assets whose value changes as they approach expiry, which a standard constant-product pool handles poorly.

PENDLE is the protocol's native token. The protocol first launched on Ethereum and now spans several networks. On our site the project is categorised as interest rate derivatives and scores 7.4 out of 10.

What the PENDLE token is used for

PENDLE is the protocol's coordination and incentive token rather than a payment currency. Liquidity providers in Pendle markets earn PENDLE incentives on top of trading fees and the yield of the underlying asset, which is how the protocol attracts liquidity to new markets.

As publicly described, holders can lock PENDLE for a set period to receive vePENDLE, a vote-escrow position. vePENDLE holders vote on which pools receive PENDLE incentives and are entitled to a share of the fees the protocol collects. Longer locks carry more voting weight. This creates a market for influence, since projects that want deeper liquidity for their yield-bearing assets can seek votes for their pools.

The details of fee sharing, lock durations and incentive rates have been adjusted over time, so check the official documentation for current rules before relying on any of this. PENDLE is not needed to use the basic features of splitting, buying or selling PTs and YTs.

Supply and tokenomics

The data we hold lists no fixed maximum supply for PENDLE. Total supply is about 281.5 million tokens, and about 173.9 million were circulating as of 2026-11-05, roughly 62% of the total. The difference between the two means more tokens can still reach the market, mainly through incentive emissions and any scheduled releases. The exact schedule is not in our data, so consult the project's own documentation.

At the time of writing, the price was about $1.73. That implies a market capitalisation of about $301.4 million, a fully diluted valuation of about $487.9 million and a market cap rank near 134. Daily trading volume was about $53.4 million.

The gap between market cap and fully diluted value matters because any new supply that is not matched by demand can weigh on the price. It also means headline market cap understates the value of everything that could eventually circulate.

Chains, holding and trading

PENDLE is issued on many networks: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, BNB Chain, Sonic, Berachain, Hyperliquid L1, Robinhood Chain and Monad. It is not the native gas token of any of them, so you pay network fees in each chain's own coin.

Because it is a standard token, any compatible self-custody wallet can hold it, provided the wallet is connected to the right network. Holders trade it on centralised exchanges and on decentralised exchanges, and can use Pendle's own app to lock it for vePENDLE.

When moving PENDLE between chains, make sure you use the official token contract on the destination network and a reputable bridge. Several chains may carry look-alike tokens with the same name, and sending tokens to the wrong network or a fake contract can mean permanent loss. Check the contract address against the project's official documentation before every first-time transfer.

History and notable moves

Pendle began on Ethereum and grew as more yield-bearing assets, especially liquid staking and stablecoin-yield tokens, became available to split into PTs and YTs. It later expanded to additional chains, which is reflected in the long list of networks where PENDLE exists today.

The token's price record shows the swings typical of DeFi governance tokens. Its all-time low was about $0.034 on 2022-11-14, and its all-time high was $7.50 on 2024-04-11. As of 2026-11-05 the price was well below that peak, down about 32% over the past year and about 9% over the previous seven days.

One analysis in our public reporting notes that the Pendle treasury places funds as liquidity in its own pools, earning trading fees and yield as a source of revenue for the protocol entity. Our data does not include a launch date, audit list or a full timeline, so we do not state them here.

Risks to understand

Several risks apply to PENDLE and to using Pendle. Smart contract risk comes first: the protocol's code, and the code of every underlying asset, can contain bugs or be exploited. Because Pendle layers on top of other protocols, a failure in a staking token or lending market can flow through to PTs and YTs built on it.

Market risk is also significant. YTs can lose value quickly if yields fall, and they decay to zero at maturity by design. PTs can trade below their face value if the underlying asset loses its peg or confidence in it drops. Liquidity in smaller markets can be thin.

For the token itself, price volatility is high, unlock and emission dynamics can add selling pressure, and vePENDLE locks reduce your flexibility because locked tokens cannot be sold until the lock ends. Governance influence can also be concentrated among large holders. Nothing here is investment advice, and you should only commit what you can afford to lose.

How to store PENDLE safely

For anything more than a small amount, use a hardware wallet and keep the recovery phrase offline, on paper or metal, and never share it. Software wallets are fine for active use but are more exposed to malware and phishing.

Before interacting with Pendle's app, confirm you are on the official site by typing the address yourself or using a bookmark you trust. Fake front ends that ask for broad token approvals are a common attack on DeFi users. Review each approval, and revoke unused ones periodically with a reputable approval-management tool.

If you lock PENDLE for vePENDLE, remember the tokens will be inaccessible until the lock expires, so avoid locking funds you may need. Consider using a separate wallet for DeFi activity and keeping long-term holdings in a wallet that does not connect to apps. Always send a small test transaction first when moving tokens to a new address or network.

PENDLE FAQs

What is PENDLE used for?

PENDLE is the native token of the Pendle protocol, which lets users trade future yield. It is used for incentives paid to liquidity providers and, through locking into vePENDLE, for voting on incentive allocation and sharing in protocol fees.

Do I need PENDLE to use Pendle?

No. You can buy and sell Principal Tokens and Yield Tokens without holding PENDLE. The token matters mainly for governance, incentives and fee sharing through vePENDLE.

What is the supply of PENDLE?

Our data lists no maximum supply. Total supply is about 281.5 million, with about 173.9 million circulating as of 2026-11-05. More tokens may enter circulation over time, so check the official documentation for the schedule.

Which blockchains is PENDLE on?

PENDLE exists on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, BNB Chain, Sonic, Berachain, Hyperliquid L1, Robinhood Chain and Monad. It is not the native gas coin of any of them, so you still need each chain's own coin for fees.

What is the difference between PT and YT?

A PT is the principal part of a yield-bearing asset, redeemable for the underlying at maturity and usually trading at a discount, which allows a fixed return. A YT is the yield part, which receives the asset's yield until maturity and is used to speculate on yield.

Is PENDLE a safe investment?

No. It carries smart contract risk, price volatility and possible supply-driven selling pressure, and locked tokens cannot be sold until the lock ends. This page is informational and not investment advice.

What is the market cap of Pendle?
