What Orca and the ORCA token are

Orca is a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on Solana. It is one of the earlier automated market makers (AMMs) on that chain, and it lets people swap tokens, provide liquidity to trading pools and earn fees, all through a web interface that is deliberately plain. Instead of matching buyers and sellers in an order book, Orca uses pools of paired tokens that traders swap against.

ORCA is the protocol's token. Public descriptions call it a governance token, and it was also used early on to reward people who supplied liquidity. The token is issued on Solana as an SPL token and is not the native coin of any blockchain; SOL pays network fees there.

Orca also positions itself as a building block for other projects, which can plug its swapping, farming or on-chain data into their own dApps. At the time of writing, ORCA ranks around 299 by market capitalization, which makes it a small-to-mid-sized asset.

What ORCA is used for

The main stated role of ORCA is governance. Holders can take part in decisions about the protocol, including how the Orca treasury is used. The treasury is described as a DAO-run fund meant to support long-term growth, with possible uses such as feature development and token buybacks. Whether any specific proposal is active or passes is a matter for the governance forums, and readers should check current details there.

ORCA has also been tied to liquidity incentives. In the past, liquidity providers could earn ORCA as a reward for supplying assets to pools, which is why the token is categorized alongside yield farming tokens.

Owning ORCA is not required to swap on Orca. Anyone with a Solana wallet can trade or provide liquidity without holding it. The token's value therefore rests mostly on governance rights and on how the market views the protocol, not on any need to pay for the service.

Supply and tokenomics

The maximum supply of ORCA is 100 million tokens. As of 2026-11-05, about 60.8 million are circulating and about 75.0 million exist in total, so a meaningful share of the cap has not yet been issued or is not yet in circulation. The fully diluted valuation, which assumes the maximum supply, is about $106.1 million, against a market cap of about $86.0M.

The gap between circulating and maximum supply matters because new tokens entering circulation can add selling pressure and dilute existing holders. The data here does not include the details of allocation, vesting schedules or emission rates, so readers wanting that picture should read the project's own tokenomics documentation and governance posts.

At the time of writing, the price is about $1.42 and 24-hour trading volume is about $8.5M. These figures move constantly and are shown only for context.

Chains, holding and trading

ORCA is issued on Solana, and that is the only chain listed for it. You can hold it in any Solana-compatible wallet, such as Phantom or Solflare, or in a hardware wallet that supports Solana.

Trading happens in two main ways. On-chain, ORCA can be swapped on Orca itself and on other Solana DEXes and aggregators. Off-chain, it has been listed on centralized exchanges; Binance.US, for example, announced a listing in 2025. Availability varies by country and platform, so check what is offered where you live.

When swapping on a DEX, you connect a wallet, approve the transaction and pay a small SOL network fee. Always confirm that you are interacting with the correct token address, since lookalike tokens exist on Solana.

History and notable events

Orca launched in the early Solana DeFi wave, and its token reached an all-time high of about $20.33 on 2021-10-02, during the broader 2021 market peak. It later fell to an all-time low of about $0.35 on 2022-06-19, during the following bear market. The price is now far below the peak, though about 8% higher than a year earlier, and it fell roughly 13% over the past seven days as of 2026-11-05.

The project is listed in portfolios of well-known investors, including Coinbase Ventures and DeFiance Capital, and is described as made in the USA. Beyond that, the data given here does not specify an exact launch date or a detailed timeline of upgrades, so this page does not attempt one.

Risks to understand

ORCA is a volatile asset. The drop from its 2021 high shows how large swings can be, and weekly moves of double digits are not unusual for tokens of this size.

Other risks to weigh:

  • Smart contract risk. Bugs in DEX or liquidity pool code can lead to lost funds, even for audited protocols.
  • Impermanent loss. Liquidity providers can end up with less value than if they had simply held the tokens, when prices of the pooled assets diverge.
  • Concentration of competition. Solana has several large DEXes and aggregators competing for the same liquidity and users.
  • Chain dependence. Orca's activity depends on Solana's performance and reliability.
  • Dilution. Tokens not yet circulating could enter the market over time.
  • Governance limits. A governance token gives voting influence, not a claim on profits or revenue.

How to store ORCA safely

Because ORCA is an ordinary Solana token, it is safest kept in a wallet you control rather than left on an exchange. A hardware wallet that supports Solana keeps your private keys offline and is a sensible choice for larger holdings. Write your recovery phrase on paper, store it somewhere private, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.

For day-to-day DeFi use, many people keep a smaller amount in a software wallet and the rest in cold storage. Before signing any transaction, check what the wallet says you are approving. Be careful with unexpected airdrops, pop-up approval requests and links sent by direct message, which are common scam routes. If you are done with a dApp, you can revoke its token permissions using a wallet's built-in tools.

Lastly, keep a small amount of SOL in the same wallet to cover network fees, or you may be unable to move your ORCA.

By the numbers

Orca in numbers

Orca (ORCA) is ranked #294 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $84.8M and a price of $1.40 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $105M, so roughly 81% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 14.4% over 7 days, down 52.7% over 30 days, up 2.7% over the past year. It trades about 93% below its all-time high of $20.33, set on Oct 2, 2021.

About 60.8M ORCA are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 100M (61% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $11.3M, or 13% of its market cap: high turnover.

ORCA has token contracts on Solana. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

ORCA FAQs

What is ORCA used for?

ORCA is mainly a governance token for the Orca protocol. Holders can take part in decisions such as how the community treasury is used. It has also been used to reward liquidity providers. You do not need it to swap tokens on Orca.

Which blockchain is ORCA on?

ORCA is issued on Solana as a token, and Solana is the only chain listed for it. It is not the native coin of any blockchain. You hold it in a Solana-compatible wallet and need a little SOL for fees.

What is the supply of ORCA?

The maximum supply is 100 million. As of 2026-11-05, about 60.8 million tokens are circulating and about 75.0 million exist in total. Supply figures change as tokens are released, so check current data before relying on them.

Where can ORCA be traded?

You can swap it on Solana DEXes, including Orca itself, using a Solana wallet. It has also been listed on some centralized exchanges, such as Binance.US. Availability depends on your country and platform.

Is ORCA a safe investment?

No. ORCA is volatile and has fallen far from its 2021 peak of about $20.33. It also carries smart contract, dilution and competition risks. Nothing on this page is a recommendation to buy or sell, so do your own research.

Do I need ORCA to use the Orca DEX?

No. Orca is a DEX, so you can swap tokens and provide liquidity using only a Solana wallet and SOL for fees. ORCA is for governance and incentives rather than access.

What is the market cap of Orca?

As of Nov 6, 2026, Orca had a market cap of about $84.8M, ranking #294 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of ORCA?

Orca's all-time high is $20.33, reached on Oct 2, 2021. Its all-time low is $0.3511 (Jun 19, 2022). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
