What Derive (DRV) is

Derive is a decentralized protocol for onchain options, perpetual futures and structured products. The project runs on Derive Chain, an Ethereum rollup built with the OP stack, which acts as the home of the Derive Protocol. The chain is described as a permissionless smart contract platform. The exchange product on our site, Derive V2, is a self-custodial venue for BTC and ETH options, perpetuals and spot trading.

DRV is the project's token. It is tied to the protocol's governance and to the DAO that collects fees from the system. Market data classifies it under both DeFi and Layer 2 tokens, which reflects the fact that it belongs to a derivatives protocol that also runs its own rollup.

The project was previously known under a different name, but the public information available here do not cover the rebrand history or the exact launch date, so this page does not state them. Anyone wanting the detail should check the project's official documentation and announcements.

What the token is used for

According to the project description, DRV holders govern the Derive DAO. The DAO earns trading fees from the Derive Protocol and gas fees from Derive Chain. The trading fees are described as flowing into an insurance fund meant to make the protocol and the rollup more robust.

So the publicly stated roles are governance and control over a fee-collecting treasury and insurance structure. The description does not spell out any direct revenue share or staking reward for token holders, so you should not assume one. Check the current governance documentation for details on voting, any staking mechanics and how treasury funds can be used.

The project also describes an AI-powered trading app called Derive Pro, built for professional traders. It is said to turn a user's market view into prepared transactions using smart contract wallets, with the aim of one-click, gasless and chainless trading. It is described as covering spot, perps and options, and connecting to spot AMMs on Optimism, Arbitrum and Base. Whether DRV is required to use it is not stated publicly available.

Supply and tokenomics

The maximum and total supply of DRV are both 1.5 billion tokens, so there is a fixed cap in the data. As of 2026-11-05, about 1.06 billion tokens were circulating, roughly 71% of the total.

At that date the price was about $0.36, giving a market capitalization of about $387 million and a fully diluted valuation of about $546 million. The gap between the two figures reflects the roughly 440 million tokens not yet in circulation. Tokens that unlock or are released later can add selling pressure, so it is worth checking the vesting and emissions schedule in official sources.

This page does not have a breakdown of allocations between team, investors, community and treasury, nor release schedules, so it does not describe them. Daily trading volume was about $25.9 million at the time of writing, and the token ranked around 117th by market cap.

Chains and how it is held and traded

DRV is issued on several networks: Ethereum, Hyperliquid L1, Optimism, Arbitrum and Base. It is not the native gas token of any chain in the data, which means the protocol's own rollup, Derive Chain, is not listed as using DRV for gas.

Having versions on many networks means you need to confirm which chain and which contract address you are dealing with before moving funds. Tokens bridged between networks may be represented by different contracts, and sending to the wrong network can lead to lost funds.

DRV is traded on centralized exchanges and decentralized exchanges, depending on the network. Liquidity and spreads differ by venue, so compare the pools or order books before trading. Use only the contract address published by the project, since fake tokens with the same name or symbol are common.

History and price context

Market data shows a low of about $0.0124 on 2025-04-07 and an all-time high of about $0.569 on 2026-10-09. As of 2026-11-05 the price was roughly 36% below that high, and the one-year change was about +922%. The seven-day change was about -0.9%. These figures show how large the swings have been, and past moves say nothing about what comes next.

The data does not give a launch date or a detailed event history, so none is offered here. For a timeline of upgrades, token migrations or rebrands, check the project's official channels.

One point to be aware of: because the protocol has changed over time, older documentation, tutorials and token listings may refer to earlier versions. Make sure you are reading material that matches the current Derive V2 and DRV contracts.

Risks

Derivatives protocols carry risks that go beyond ordinary token volatility. Smart contract bugs, oracle problems, thin liquidity in options markets and sudden liquidations can all hurt users. Even with an insurance fund, losses are not guaranteed to be covered.

The protocol also depends on its own rollup, which adds risk from the sequencer, bridges and the OP stack setup. Cross-chain versions of DRV add bridge and contract risk. Governance is another factor: DAO votes can change fees, parameters or treasury use, and large holders may have outsized influence.

DRV has a rank around 117 and a daily volume of tens of millions of dollars, so it is smaller and more volatile than major assets. About 29% of the supply was not yet circulating as of 2026-11-05, which creates dilution risk. Trading options and perpetuals with leverage can lose more than you expect. This is general information, not financial advice. Derivatives trading may be restricted or regulated where you live, so check local rules and any age requirements before using these products.

How to store it safely

DRV is a standard token, so you can hold it in a self-custody wallet that supports the network you use, such as an Ethereum-compatible wallet. A hardware wallet adds protection for larger amounts. Write your recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline and never share it.

Before sending tokens, confirm the network and the contract address from the project's official documentation, and send a small test amount first. Be careful with token approvals: review and revoke permissions you no longer need, since unlimited approvals to a compromised contract can drain a wallet. Beware of phishing links, fake airdrop claims and impersonation accounts.

If you leave tokens on an exchange, you rely on that company's security and solvency. Self-custody gives you control but also full responsibility for your keys.

By the numbers

Derive in numbers

Derive (DRV) is ranked #125 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $336M and a price of $0.3164 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $475M, so roughly 71% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 4.6% over 7 days, down 21.0% over 30 days, up 810% over the past year. It trades about 44% below its all-time high of $0.5693, set on Oct 9, 2026.

About 1.06B DRV are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1.5B (71% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $18.3M, or 5.5% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

DRV has token contracts on 5 chains we track, including Ethereum, Hyperliquid L1, Optimism, Arbitrum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

DRV is linked to Derive, which we cover in our Derivatives rankings. See our Derive page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

CoinGecko groups DRV under Layer 2 tokens, DeFi tokens.
