What Mantle and MNT are

Mantle is an Ethereum Layer 2 network, meaning it processes transactions on its own chain and settles the results back to Ethereum so that users pay lower fees. MNT is its native token. The project describes a wider ecosystem built around the network, including mETH Protocol (a liquid staking product for ether), Function (FBTC, a bitcoin-linked token), and Mantle Index Four (MI4), an index product.

The project pitches itself as a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized finance, aimed at both individual users and institutions. That is marketing language, so treat it as a statement of intent rather than a measure of adoption.

At the time of writing, MNT ranks around 60th by market capitalization. As of 2026-11-05 it trades at about $0.45, with a market cap of roughly $1.49B and a fully diluted value of about $2.81B. The gap between those two figures matters, and the supply section below explains why. Data providers file MNT under Layer 2 tokens, smart contract platforms and the Ethereum ecosystem.

What MNT is used for

MNT has two main documented roles. The first is gas: on Mantle Network, MNT pays for transactions. Mantle's own bridge guidance reminds users that they need some MNT on the Layer 2 before they can do anything there. This is a practical difference from many other Ethereum Layer 2s, which use ether for gas.

The second role is governance. MNT holders can take part in decisions about the network's direction and the ecosystem's products. The project description also mentions staking and funding ecosystem development, though the exact mechanics and rewards should be checked in the official documentation, since they can change.

Beyond those points, MNT also shows up as a trading pair and as collateral or a listed asset in various DeFi apps on Mantle. A token that is needed for gas has built-in demand from network activity, but that does not guarantee any price outcome. If activity on the chain falls, so does that source of demand.

Supply and tokenomics

According to the data, MNT has a maximum supply of about 6.22 billion tokens, and the total supply equals that figure. This suggests a fixed cap, with no further issuance beyond it. Circulating supply is about 3.30 billion, or a little over half of the total, as of 2026-11-05.

That is why the fully diluted valuation (about $2.81B) is nearly double the market cap (about $1.49B). The tokens not yet in circulation could enter the market over time, which can add selling pressure. public data here does not break down who holds the non-circulating portion or on what schedule it is released, so readers should consult Mantle's official tokenomics documentation for allocation, treasury and unlock details instead of relying on summaries.

It is also worth knowing that the supply figure inherits from the project's earlier history, covered below. A capped supply is not by itself a sign of value, because what matters is how much of it is circulating, who holds it and how demand develops.

Chains, holding and trading

MNT is issued on two chains: Ethereum and Mantle itself. The Ethereum version is a standard ERC-20 token, and it is the one most commonly listed on exchanges. The Mantle version is the native gas asset of the Layer 2. Moving between the two uses the official bridge or an exchange that supports withdrawals to the Mantle network.

In general terms, people get MNT in three ways. They can buy it on centralized exchanges, they can swap for it on decentralized exchanges on Ethereum or Mantle, or they can bridge it over from another network. Trading activity is moderate: about $28.3M changed hands over 24 hours at the time of writing, which is a small share of the market cap.

Holding MNT only requires a wallet that supports Ethereum-style addresses. To use Mantle Network, you add that network to the wallet and keep a small MNT balance for gas. Always check which network you are sending to, because sending to the wrong chain can make funds hard or impossible to recover.

History and notable events

Mantle's origins lie in BitDAO, a decentralized organization with a large treasury and a token called BIT. In 2023 the project rebranded as Mantle, and BIT holders could convert to MNT at a one-to-one ratio. The Mantle Network mainnet launched later in 2023 as an Ethereum Layer 2.

The network's technical design has evolved over time, including changes to how it stores transaction data. Check Mantle's current documentation for its present architecture rather than relying on older descriptions.

MNT's price history has been volatile. The all-time low in the data is about $0.31 on 2023-10-17. The all-time high is about $2.86 on 2025-10-08. As of 2026-11-05 the price sits about 62.6% below where it was a year earlier and down about 6.4% over the previous seven days. Those figures show how large the swings can be, and they say nothing about what comes next.

Risks to understand

Market risk. MNT has fallen sharply from its 2025 peak, and the price can move quickly in either direction. Only hold what you could afford to lose.

Supply overhang. With roughly 47% of the total supply not yet circulating, future releases could weigh on the price if demand does not keep pace.

Competition. Many Layer 2 networks compete for the same users, developers and liquidity. A token's usefulness depends on how much real activity its chain keeps.

Technical and bridge risk. Layer 2s depend on smart contracts, bridges and sequencers. Bugs, outages or exploits in any of these can affect users, and bridges have historically been a frequent target across crypto.

Governance and concentration. Governance tokens can be dominated by a few large holders, which may limit how much influence ordinary holders really have.

Product risk. The wider ecosystem includes products such as mETH and FBTC, each with its own risks, including smart contract and custody considerations. This page is general information, not financial advice.

How to store MNT safely

Because MNT is a standard Ethereum token plus a native gas asset, most reputable wallets can hold it. For anything beyond a small amount, a hardware wallet is the usual choice, since it keeps your private keys offline. Write down your recovery phrase on paper, keep it somewhere secure, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff.

Keeping tokens on an exchange is convenient for trading but means the exchange controls the keys. If you move MNT to self-custody, send a small test amount first and confirm the network, Ethereum or Mantle, before sending the rest.

Be cautious with token approvals. When you connect a wallet to a dApp, you may grant it permission to spend your tokens, and you can review and revoke those permissions later. Beware of fake airdrops, lookalike websites and unsolicited direct messages, which are common routes for wallet theft. Using a separate wallet for experimenting with new apps limits the damage if something goes wrong.

By the numbers

Mantle in numbers

Mantle (MNT) is ranked #62 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $1.47B and a price of $0.4460 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $2.77B, so roughly 53% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 7.1% over 7 days, down 23.6% over 30 days, down 63.4% over the past year. It trades about 84% below its all-time high of $2.86, set on Oct 8, 2025.

About 3.3B MNT are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 6.22B (53% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $33.9M, or 2.3% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

MNT is the native token of Mantle; it also has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

MNT FAQs

What is MNT used for?

MNT pays gas fees on Mantle Network and gives holders a say in governance. The project also describes it as supporting staking and ecosystem growth. Check the official documentation for current details on how those functions work.

Is Mantle the same as Ethereum?

Mantle is an Ethereum Layer 2 network. It processes transactions on its own chain and settles them back to Ethereum, aiming for lower fees. It is a separate network, not Ethereum itself.

What is the supply of MNT?

The data shows a maximum and total supply of about 6.22 billion MNT, so it appears to be capped. About 3.30 billion were circulating as of 2026-11-05. The rest is not yet in circulation, so check the official docs for the release details.

What was BitDAO and how does it relate to Mantle?

Mantle rebranded from BitDAO in 2023, and holders of the BIT token could convert to MNT at a one-to-one ratio. This is why the supply figures trace back to the earlier project.

Is MNT on Ethereum or on its own chain?

Yes. MNT exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and as the native gas token on Mantle Network. You can move it between the two using the official bridge or an exchange that supports withdrawals on both networks. Always confirm the network before you send.

Will the MNT price go up?

No one can say. MNT has been highly volatile: about 62.6% lower over one year as of 2026-11-05, after an all-time high of about $2.86 in October 2025. This page does not offer price predictions or investment advice.

What is the market cap of Mantle?

As of Nov 6, 2026, Mantle had a market cap of about $1.47B, ranking #62 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of MNT?

Mantle's all-time high is $2.86, reached on Oct 8, 2025. Its all-time low is $0.3080 (Oct 17, 2023). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of MNT?

As of Nov 6, 2026, about 3.3B MNT were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 6.22B.

Which blockchains is MNT on?

MNT is the native token of Mantle. It has token contracts on Ethereum.
