What Starknet and STRK are

Starknet is a Layer 2 network built on top of Ethereum. It is a validity rollup, often called a ZK-rollup, which means transactions are processed away from Ethereum's main chain and then settled there with a cryptographic proof. The proofs Starknet uses are called STARKs. Ethereum nodes can check the proof without re-running every transaction, which is how the network aims to add capacity while keeping Ethereum as the base layer for security.

The network is permissionless, so anyone can deploy applications or use them. Developers write smart contracts for Starknet in a language called Cairo rather than Solidity, which sets it apart from many other Ethereum scaling networks.

STRK is the network's native token. It sits alongside the chain itself, and is separate from ETH, which is still widely used on Starknet. Our site groups STRK under Layer 2 tokens, infrastructure tokens and zero-knowledge tokens. At the time of writing it ranks around 127th by market capitalization, so it is a mid-to-small asset in the wider market.

What STRK is used for

The project's own description says the token is meant to operate, maintain and secure the ecosystem, and to steer its direction. Three roles are named: governance, payment of transaction fees, and participation in the network's consensus mechanism.

Governance. STRK holders can take part in decisions about the protocol's rules and strategy. How much real influence that gives depends on how many tokens people hold, whether they delegate, and how active voters are.

Fees. Early on, fees on Starknet were paid in ETH. An update in early 2024 allowed STRK to be used to pay transaction fees as well, so it works as a utility token as well as a governance token.

Staking. Holders can lock STRK to support the network's proof-of-stake style consensus and, in return, earn rewards. The mechanics have developed in stages, so check the current rules in official documentation before relying on any detail.

Beyond these, the public information available to us do not point to other formal uses, so we keep this section short.

Supply and tokenomics

As of 2026-11-05, roughly 7.66 billion STRK were circulating, with a total supply of about 10.18 billion. No hard maximum supply is listed in the data we have, so we do not state one. The gap between circulating and total supply means a share of tokens is not yet in free circulation. That is usually locked or scheduled allocations, such as those for early contributors, investors and ecosystem programs.

That gap shows up in the valuation figures. At the time of writing, market capitalization was about $328.1 million, while fully diluted value, which assumes all of the total supply is circulating, was about $436.0 million. Daily trading volume was around $40.3 million.

When locked tokens unlock, the amount available to trade rises, which can put pressure on price. We do not have a full schedule in our data, so read the project's published allocation and vesting details before drawing conclusions. The Starknet Foundation also runs incentive and grant programs that distribute tokens over time.

Chains, holding and trading

STRK is the native token of the Starknet network. It also exists in token form on Ethereum and on Solana, according to our data, which means it can be held and moved on more than one network. Bridges and exchanges handle moves between them, and each carries its own fees and risks.

Most people get STRK in one of three ways. They buy it on a centralized exchange that lists it, trade it on a decentralized exchange on Starknet or another supported chain, or receive it through ecosystem programs. Always confirm which network a deposit address belongs to before sending, because the same ticker can appear on several chains and sending to the wrong one can mean lost funds.

To use STRK on the Starknet network itself, you need a compatible wallet. Starknet uses account abstraction, so its wallets work differently from standard Ethereum wallets, and an Ethereum-only wallet will not connect directly. Wallets built for Starknet include Argent and Braavos. Both are named here for reference, not as a recommendation.

History and notable events

Starknet launched as a network before its token did. STRK arrived in early 2024, and the token reached its all-time high of about $4.41 on 2024-02-20, shortly after distribution began. That peak came at a time of heavy attention on new tokens and airdrops.

Since then the price has fallen sharply. As of 2026-11-05 it was about $0.043, down roughly 57% over one year, and about 5.9% lower over the past seven days. The all-time low in our data is about $0.022, recorded on 2026-08-18.

There have been product milestones along the way. Reports say a bridge called strkBTC launched on May 12, 2026, aiming to bring shielded Bitcoin-linked assets onto the network. Separate reports in October 2026 described STRK's largest single-day gain in over a year after the network announced a plan, though price moves like that do not show lasting change. We list these as background, not as signals about where the price may go.

Main risks

Price volatility. STRK has lost most of its value from its peak, and sharp moves in either direction are common. Holders can lose a large part of what they put in.

Token unlocks. Because circulating supply is below total supply, future releases of locked tokens could increase selling pressure.

Competition. Starknet competes with many other Ethereum Layer 2 networks, some with more users, liquidity or developer familiarity. The use of Cairo can also be a barrier for developers used to Solidity.

Technical and bridge risk. Rollups and bridges are complex software. Bugs, upgrade errors or compromised bridges can cause losses, and some parts of the system have historically relied on trusted operators while decentralization has been phased in.

Governance and concentration. Voting power can be concentrated among large holders or delegates.

Scams. Fake airdrops, cloned wallets and phishing sites often target Starknet users. This page is information only and is not financial advice, and nothing here predicts future prices.

How to store STRK safely

How you store STRK depends on how much you hold and how you plan to use it.

For smaller amounts you use often, a software wallet made for Starknet, such as Argent or Braavos, is the usual choice. These wallets use smart-contract accounts, which can offer features like recovery options. Write down your recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support staff.

For larger holdings, consider a hardware wallet that supports Starknet, and check current compatibility before moving funds. Test with a small transfer first, and confirm the network and address every time.

Be careful with approvals. Review which apps you have allowed to spend your tokens and revoke anything you no longer use. Bookmark official sites rather than following links from search ads, messages or social media replies. Leaving tokens on an exchange is convenient but means you rely on the exchange to hold them safely.

By the numbers

Starknet in numbers

Starknet (STRK) is ranked #129 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $315M and a price of $0.0411 as of Nov 7, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $419M, so roughly 75% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 5.9% over 7 days, down 16.9% over 30 days, down 62.3% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $4.41, set on Feb 20, 2024.

About 7.66B STRK are in circulation, from a total supply of 10.18B. No hard maximum supply is listed.

24-hour trading volume was about $28.8M, or 9.1% of its market cap: high turnover.

STRK is the native token of Starknet; it also has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, Solana. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

CoinGecko groups STRK under Layer 2 tokens, Infrastructure tokens, Zero-knowledge (ZK) tokens.
