Starknet is a layer 2 network that scales Ethereum with zero-knowledge technology. Transactions are executed off the main chain, then bundled and verified with STARK proofs that are posted to Ethereum. The goal is lower costs and higher throughput while relying on Ethereum for final security. It is not a standard EVM chain: apps are written in Cairo and run on Starknet's own virtual machine, so Ethereum contracts generally need to be ported.
The native token is STRK. It is used to pay network fees and for staking and governance, and Starknet's BTC staking program lets Bitcoin holders take part in securing the network and earn STRK rewards. Fees are typically lower than on Ethereum mainnet, but they vary with network demand. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on Starknet was about $35.7 million, a modest figure compared with the largest ecosystems.
Starknet's dApps lean toward lending, staking and yield. Vesu offers permissionless lending markets, Endur provides liquid staking for STRK and BTC, and Troves runs curated yield vaults. Nostra covers swaps and lending, Opus offers borrowing against collateral, and Carmine Options is an options AMM. Risk curators such as Re7 Labs and Clearstar are also listed, along with several centralized exchanges that support Starknet. Many native apps are small, so check TVL, audits and scores before using them.

Frequently asked questions
What is Starknet?
Starknet is a layer 2 network built on Ethereum. It runs smart contracts off the main chain, bundles the results, and posts a STARK validity proof to Ethereum. The aim is to scale Ethereum while relying on its security.
Is Starknet EVM compatible?
No, not natively. Starknet uses its own virtual machine and the Cairo programming language, so Solidity apps usually need to be rewritten or adapted. Wallets and tooling are built specifically for Starknet, so they work differently from standard Ethereum ones.
What is the STRK token used for?
STRK is Starknet's native token. It is used for network fees, staking and governance. The Starknet BTC Staking and Endur dApps on this page both involve STRK staking in different ways.
Which are the biggest dApps on Starknet?
By TVL on Starknet itself, the biggest native names on our list include Starknet BTC Staking, Vesu, Endur and Troves. Re7 Labs and Clearstar are also listed as risk curators with Starknet exposure. Several centralized exchanges are listed too, but their large TVL figures are mostly off-chain and come from other networks.
How big is the Starknet DeFi ecosystem?
DeFi TVL on Starknet was about $35.7 million at the time of writing, which is small next to the largest chains. Many of the 48 dApps we list hold only a few hundred thousand dollars or less, so liquidity can be thin. Check each dApp's TVL, audits and score before depositing.
Is it safe to use dApps on Starknet?
Not automatically. Starknet's proof system is designed to inherit Ethereum security, but each dApp has its own smart contract and oracle risks. For example, we note one small lending market with no listed audits and a reported oracle exploit. Start with small amounts and read the review notes first.
What is the largest dApp on Starknet by TVL?
Binance CEX is the largest dApp on Starknet by total value locked, with $127B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by OKX ($28.4B) and Bitget ($5.93B). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
Which dApp on Starknet has the highest DappsAtlas score?
How many dApps are on Starknet?
DappsAtlas tracks 50 dApps on Starknet. Of these, 50 have a full review and 36 report value locked, $171B in total, counting value on every chain they support.
What are the most common types of dApps on Starknet?
DEXes (12), Centralized Exchanges (8) and Lending (3) are the largest categories on Starknet, by number of projects.
Which dApps on Starknet grew the most this week?
What is the average score for dApps on Starknet?
The 43 rated dApps on Starknet average 5.9 out of 10. Of these, 1 score 8 or higher and 6 score below 5.
