Social dApps are apps for posting, chatting, messaging or finding communities that use a blockchain or crypto wallet for some part of the experience. That can mean logging in with a wallet, owning posts or memberships as tokens, or getting paid in crypto. Not everything here is fully onchain: some entries, like Flashback, are conventional forums with a crypto focus, and the section also includes email and place-discovery tools.
Most of these projects make money in a few ways. Creator platforms such as Zora and Minds take a cut of trading or monetization activity, or build value around a native token like ZORA or MINDS. Messaging and email services such as EtherMail and Towns can earn from memberships, campaigns or protocol use. Others, like Mask Network, add crypto features on top of existing social media. Token rewards for users, as with daGama and Focus Tree, are usually funded by the project's own incentives, so they can change or end.
When comparing options, look at what you actually want to do. Zora, Liketu and Minds suit creators and posting, Towns suits group chat and communities, and EtherMail suits wallet-to-wallet messaging. Then check which chain it uses, whether the app is still active, how much depends on a token, and what permissions your wallet is asked to give. Our scores are a starting point, not a guarantee, and you should read each app's own terms before connecting a wallet.

Frequently asked questions
What is a social dApp?
A social dApp is a social or messaging app that uses a blockchain or wallet for part of its function. That might be logging in with a wallet, owning posts or memberships as tokens, or earning rewards. Some apps on the list, like Flashback, are ordinary web forums with a crypto board and don't run on a chain at all.
Are social dApps free to use?
Most let you browse for free, and some charge nothing to join. Costs can show up when you mint a post, buy a membership or move tokens, since those actions may need network fees. Check each app's current terms before you connect a wallet.
Which blockchains do these apps use?
Not always. Zora and Towns run on Base, Focus Tree is on Starknet, Liketu uses Hive, and Dscvr has ties to Internet Computer, Solana and Eclipse. Flashback and Vooz are listed without a chain on our site. The chain affects which wallet you need and what fees look like.
Do I need to buy a token to use them?
Several have native tokens, including ZORA, MINDS, MASK, EMT and DGMA, but a token is not required to understand or try an app. Token prices swing widely and utility can be thin, as Dmail Network's reported shutdown shows. Treat any token as a risk, not a reason to join.
Are social dApps safe?
Wallet-based apps still require care. Never share your seed phrase, review every signature request, and use a separate wallet with a small balance when trying something new. Encrypted messaging tools such as Towns and EtherMail protect message content, but they don't remove scam, phishing or impersonation risks.
Can a social dApp shut down?
Not necessarily. Dmail Network is listed as reportedly shut down, and Swirge has sparse public details. Smaller social projects can lose users or funding quickly. Before depositing money or linking a wallet, check that the app is still active and that its team and documentation are easy to find.
What is the largest social dApp by TVL?
cipher.rip is the largest social dApp by total value locked, with $44.3K. TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
