Digital ID is the part of crypto that deals with who or what a wallet belongs to. It includes readable names that replace long addresses, reputation scores built from on-chain activity, verifiable credentials such as CVs and certificates, and formal KYC checks. The nine projects on this page cover all of those, so they are not direct substitutes for one another.
Naming services such as Base Name Service, Unstoppable Domains, ZNS Connect and Openname sell domain names, usually as a registration or renewal fee. Galxe earns from projects that pay to run reward campaigns and issue credentials. Sumsub charges businesses for KYC and AML verification, Nomis sells wallet scoring to projects that want to qualify users, and Edubuk and ShareRing focus on credential verification and privacy-focused identity for businesses and individuals. Often the end user pays little or nothing, and the paying customer is a project or company.
When comparing, start with the job you need done: a wallet name, a reputation score, a credential check or compliance screening. Then look at chain support (Base Name Service is tied to Base, while ZNS Connect and Openname span several chains), how widely wallets and apps accept the name or credential, what personal data is collected and where it is stored, and renewal costs. Galxe and Sumsub lead our scores at the time of writing, but a higher score does not make a tool right for every use. If a service involves gambling, you must be 18+ (21+ where required) and should check that it is legal where you live.</br>

Frequently asked questions
What is a digital ID dApp?
A digital ID dApp helps prove who you are, or what you have done, on-chain or online. That can mean a readable wallet name such as a .base.eth domain, a reputation score based on wallet activity, a verified credential, or a KYC check. The category covers several different tools, so the label is broad.
What is a blockchain domain name used for?
A blockchain domain such as a Basename or an Unstoppable Domains name replaces a long wallet address with a short, readable name. Some can also point to a decentralized website. Support differs by wallet and app, so check that the places you use accept the name before paying for one.
Are all digital ID tools decentralized?
Not always. Services like Sumsub run centralized KYC and AML checks for businesses, while others such as Galxe issue on-chain credentials and Nomis scores wallets. Decentralized identity aims to give users control over their credentials, but each product handles data and trust in its own way, so read how each one works.
What is the difference between Nomis and Galxe?
Nomis is a reputation protocol that scores wallets from their on-chain behavior, so projects can decide who qualifies for something. Galxe works through campaigns and credentials that users collect by completing tasks. Both can be used to screen or reward users, but they measure different things.
Is it safe to link my identity to my wallet?
Blockchain names and credentials can reveal links between your wallets and activity if you connect them publicly. Check what data a service asks for, what is stored on-chain, and whether it can be removed. Keep in mind that public blockchain records are usually permanent. Never share your seed phrase with any identity service.
Do crypto casinos use digital ID or KYC tools?
Some casinos and other regulated crypto services require identity checks, and providers like Sumsub supply that kind of verification for businesses. Gambling is for adults only, 18+ or 21+ where required, and you should confirm that online gambling is legal where you live. Complete any age or KYC checks honestly and do not try to get around them.
Which digital id dApp has the highest DappsAtlas score?
Galxe has the highest score at 7.0/10, ahead of Sumsub (6.8) and Base Name Service (6.8). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.
