A bridge is a protocol that moves tokens or data between blockchains that cannot talk to each other directly. This category covers general-purpose bridges, cross-chain messaging layers, wrapped-asset issuers and the deposit bridges that feed individual trading platforms. Our list has 47 entries, from developer infrastructure to single-purpose funding routes.

Most bridges lock or burn an asset on one chain and mint or release a representation on another, with validators, oracles or a messaging network confirming each step. Revenue typically comes from small transfer fees, relayer or liquidity-provider spreads, and in some cases from the platform the bridge feeds, such as a perpetuals exchange. Infrastructure projects like LayerZero V2 and CCIP earn from developers and issuers who build on them, while issuers like USDT0 and Coinbase Bridge provide wrapped or omnichain versions of assets they already control.

When comparing, look first at the security model: who verifies transfers, whether the code has been audited, and whether there has been an exploit, as with ioTube. Then check which chains and assets are supported, how redemption works, and how much value sits in the contracts. LayerZero V2, Coinbase Bridge, Hyperliquid Bridge and USDT0 hold the largest balances on our list, but size is not a safety guarantee. If you use a bridge to fund a trading or gambling platform, you must be 18 or older (21 or older where required) and should check that the activity is legal where you live.</br>

Frequently asked questions

What is a crypto bridge?

A crypto bridge moves value from one blockchain to another. Most lock or burn tokens on the source chain and then mint or release a matching token on the destination chain. Some instead use liquidity pools or message-passing, where a network of validators confirms the transfer.

Are crypto bridges safe to use?

Bridges hold large pools of assets and rely on smart contracts and validator sets, so they are frequent targets for attacks. Risk varies by design, audits, how many parties must approve a transfer, and how long the protocol has operated. One listing on our page, ioTube, reportedly suffered an exploit in February 2026, which shows the risk is real. Never bridge more than you can afford to lose.

How much does it cost to bridge tokens?

Fees usually combine the network gas on the source chain, sometimes gas on the destination chain, and a protocol or relayer fee. Costs change with network congestion and the route you choose. Check the quote shown in the interface before you confirm.

What is a wrapped token?

A wrapped token is an IOU for an asset held elsewhere, such as Bitcoin represented on another chain. Examples on this page include Lombard BTC.b, Stacks sBTC, wTAO and Coinbase's wrapped assets. Its value depends on the issuer or bridge actually holding the backing asset and letting you redeem it.

What is the difference between LayerZero, CCIP and a regular bridge?

Messaging protocols such as LayerZero V2 and Chainlink CCIP are mainly infrastructure that developers and token issuers build on, while consumer bridges like cBridge let you move tokens directly. Many apps use a messaging layer under the hood, so you may use one without knowing it.

Does a high TVL mean a bridge is safe?

Total value locked shows how much is held in the bridge contracts, which hints at how much trust users place in it. It does not prove safety. A large TVL can also make a bridge a bigger target, so read it alongside audit history and design.

What is the largest bridge by TVL?

LayerZero V2 is the largest bridge by total value locked, with $16.7B. It is followed by Coinbase Bridge ($7.60B) and Hyperliquid Bridge ($6.41B). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which bridge has the highest DappsAtlas score?

LayerZero V2 has the highest score at 8.0/10, ahead of CCIP (7.6) and USDT0 (7.5). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many bridges does DappsAtlas track?

DappsAtlas tracks 49 bridges. Of these, 49 have a full review and 44 report value locked, $39.2B in total.

What chains do most bridges run on?

Ethereum is the most common, with 34 of 49 bridges, followed by BNB Chain (20) and Arbitrum (19). 79% are deployed on more than one chain.

Which bridges grew the most this week?

Among bridges with at least $1M locked, Aster Bridge had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+13.6%) and APX Bridge the biggest drop (−93.1%). Combined TVL moved +2.8% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for bridges?

The 45 rated bridges average 6.0 out of 10. Of these, 1 score 8 or higher and 4 score below 5.
