Our verdict on HTX

6.5/10

HTX suits active traders who want a wide selection of coins and access to spot, margin and futures in one place. Its main strength is breadth: 600+ assets, an API and a large base of disclosed wallet holdings. The main caveat is transparency we reviewed: fee rates, licensing, proof of reserves and audits are not stated, and funds are held in custody. Check these on the official site and your local rules first, and keep only trading funds on the exchange.

What is HTX?

HTX, formerly Huobi Global, is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange. Its homepage describes it as a leading exchange for BTC, ETH, XRP and 600+ altcoins, and the site says it serves millions of users in over 130 countries.

DefiLlama tracks it in the CEX category with about $4.0 billion in disclosed wallet holdings across 19 chains, including Tron, Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP Ledger, Solana and BNB Chain. It has been listed there since November 2022. The 7-day change in that figure was -2.9%.

The product menu covers spot trading, margin trading, a trading bot and futures, plus an app and API docs. In January 2024 the exchange announced it would list HTX DAO ($HTX) and let $HT holders convert to it.

The project does not cover fee rates, licensing, proof of reserves or audits. DefiLlama lists no audits. This review therefore focuses on what the exchange offers and what users should verify.

How HTX works

HTX is a centralized exchange. You create an account, deposit crypto, and the exchange credits your balance in its own internal ledger. When you trade, an order book matches buyers and sellers, and no blockchain transaction takes place until you withdraw.

Spot trading is a direct swap of one asset for another. Margin and futures products let traders borrow or use leverage to take larger positions, which magnifies both gains and losses and can lead to forced liquidation.

Because the exchange holds the assets, its TVL on DefiLlama (about $4.0 billion at the time of the data) reflects the on-chain wallets it discloses. It is not locked DeFi liquidity. The chains listed include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, Solana and others.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Very broad asset selection, with 600+ coins advertised.
  • Spot, margin, futures and a trading bot are all listed.
  • Large disclosed wallet holdings of about $4.0 billion across 19 chains.
  • API documentation and a mobile app are available.
  • A public deposit and withdrawal status page helps users check network availability.
  • A multi-language site serves users in over 130 countries.

Watch out for

  • Custodial model: users must trust the exchange with their funds, and no proof-of-reserves details appear.
  • DefiLlama lists no audits for HTX.
  • Fee schedules, withdrawal fees and licensing details are not public, so users must verify them before depositing.
  • Availability and product scope can differ by country; the project does not say which regions are supported or restricted.
  • The advertised sign-up reward of up to $3,100 comes with conditions not shown publicly.
  • Margin and futures products carry liquidation risk and suit experienced traders only.

HTX fees

HTX's fee rates are not published publicly we reviewed. That includes spot maker and taker fees, futures funding and trading fees, and per-asset withdrawal fees.

On exchanges like this, trading fees usually appear on a fee schedule page and often vary by account tier. Withdrawal fees are shown on the withdrawal screen for each coin and network. Check both before depositing, and read the terms behind the advertised sign-up reward.

Is HTX safe?

HTX is custodial, so you carry counterparty risk: if the exchange has operational problems, restricts withdrawals or fails, your funds can be affected. DefiLlama lists no audits for it. The project does not mention proof of reserves, insurance funds, licensing or past incidents, so we make no claims on those points.

Use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication. Keep only the funds you need for trading on the exchange, and check your local rules on using offshore or international exchanges. Leveraged products can cause losses larger than expected.

6 steps

How to get started with HTX

  1. 1

Confirm that using HTX is legal and permitted where you live, and read the exchange's terms.

  2. 2

Open the official HTX site and start the sign-up process.

  3. 3

Complete any identity verification the exchange requires and secure the account with two-factor authentication.

  4. 4

Check the fee schedule and the terms of any sign-up reward before depositing.

  5. 5

Check the deposit and withdrawal status page for the coin and network you plan to use, then make a small first deposit.

  6. 6

Start with simple spot trades before trying margin or futures, and move long-term holdings to a wallet you control.

Who HTX is for

HTX is aimed at traders who want a large altcoin selection and derivatives access on a centralized platform, and who are comfortable with custodial risk. It is less suited to beginners who might misuse leverage, or to anyone who wants to hold their own keys or needs clear regulatory standing in their country.

HTX FAQs

What is HTX?

HTX is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange, formerly known as Huobi Global. Its homepage advertises trading in BTC, ETH, XRP and 600+ altcoins, and its site lists spot, margin and futures products.

Is HTX the same as Huobi?

Yes. Huobi Global is the earlier name of the exchange, and DefiLlama still lists it under that name. Public sources also include a January 2024 notice about converting the $HT token into $HTX, which reflects the rebrand.

Is HTX safe?

HTX is a centralized exchange, so it holds your assets on your behalf. DefiLlama lists no audits, and the project does not describe proof of reserves or licensing. Check these on the official site, and only keep on the exchange what you are prepared to risk.

Does HTX offer a sign-up bonus?

The homepage advertises that new users can sign up, trade and earn up to $3,100. The project does not give the terms, so read the offer conditions on the official site before relying on it.

What are HTX's fees?

The project does not list fee rates. Trading fees, funding rates on futures and withdrawal fees are normally published on the exchange's fee pages and in the withdrawal screen, so check them there before trading.

Is HTX available in my country?

The project does not list restricted regions. The site says it serves users in over 130 countries and has a US-English page, but eligibility depends on local law and the exchange's own rules. Check both before signing up.
