Across Review 2026: Fast Intent-Based Cross-Chain Bridge

Across is an intent-based cross-chain bridge that uses bonded relayers and an optimistic oracle to move tokens between Ethereum, rollups and other networks. It is widely integrated and fast by its own account, though its headline claims are self-reported.

Excellent

Our verdict on Across

8.0/10

Across suits anyone who regularly moves stablecoins or ETH between Ethereum and rollups and wants a fast route, as well as developers who want one bridging API. Its main strength is speed and breadth: an intent-based design, many supported chains and integrations in well-known apps. The main caveat is that its safety record and volume figures are self-reported, TVL is modest, and fees are only visible in the quote. As with any bridge, start small and check the route first.

What is Across?

Across is a cross-chain bridge and swap protocol that lets users move tokens between Ethereum, Layer 2 rollups and other networks. It has been listed on DefiLlama since January 2022 under the Cross Chain Bridge category, and it has its own token, ACX.

The homepage describes Across as the bridge that just works. It claims over $40B moved, 5 million users, an average transfer time of 1.2 seconds, and no user funds lost. These numbers come from the project and were not independently verified here.

Across also sells to developers. A single API lets apps add bridging, and the homepage highlights Uniswap's in-app integration and names MetaMask, Coinbase and PancakeSwap on its partner strip. DefiLlama shows about $16.3M in TVL, down 5.1% over seven days.

How Across works

Across uses an intent-based model. A user deposits tokens on the origin chain and says what they want to receive on the destination chain. Relayers, who hold their own funds, compete to deliver the tokens on the destination chain almost immediately.

The relayer is repaid afterwards. DefiLlama's description says the system combines an optimistic oracle, bonded relayers and single-sided liquidity pools. In an optimistic oracle, claims are accepted unless someone disputes them in time, and the bonds put up by relayers are meant to discourage false claims. The liquidity pools hold the capital that reimburses relayers.

The user does not wait for the slow path of a canonical bridge, which can take much longer on some rollups. The cost is that safety depends on the contracts, the verification process and relayers behaving as designed.

7 features

Key features

01

Intent-based transfers

Relayers fill transfers on the destination chain, which the homepage says gives an average of 1.2 seconds from confirmation to funds in the wallet.

02

Wide chain coverage

The homepage lists more than twenty networks, including Ethereum, several rollups, Solana, Tron and Hyperliquid's HyperEVM and HyperCore.

03

Bridge and swap

Users can bridge and swap tokens in one flow, and the homepage's example API call quotes a swap from USDC on Base to a token on Unichain.

04

Permissionless relayer network

Across says anyone can compete to fill transfers and that it has no 1/1 configurations or single points of failure.

05

Single API integration

Apps can add crosschain bridging through one API. Uniswap is shown as an integration partner, with MetaMask, Coinbase and PancakeSwap also named on the page.

06

Large-transfer routing

A recent blog post says large stablecoin transfers of up to $50M to Robinhood Chain can be routed through Paxos Labs' Transit at a locked rate.

07

Transfer history and pools

The app has Transfer, History, Pool and Rewards sections, so users can review past bridges and see the liquidity side.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Intent-based design aims for near-instant arrival, with a claimed 1.2 second average.
  • Supports a long and growing list of chains, including Solana, Tron and several newer rollups.
  • Says transfers are verified onchain with no multisig custody and no single point of failure.
  • Integrated into major apps; the page cites Uniswap and names MetaMask, Coinbase and PancakeSwap.
  • Operating since at least January 2022 with two audits listed on DefiLlama.
  • Offers a developer API plus a user app with transfer history.

Watch out for

  • Headline figures such as $40B+ volume, 5M users and 'no user funds lost' come from the project's own homepage and were not independently checked here.
  • Locked liquidity on DefiLlama is about $16.3M, down 5.1% over seven days, which is modest next to the volume claimed.
  • No fee schedule is published on the homepage, so users only see the cost in a quote at transfer time.
  • Bridges carry smart-contract and relayer-network risk, and a bridge's track record can change.
  • Only two audits are listed on DefiLlama, and public sources give no details on scope or dates.

Across fees

Across does not publish a fee table on its homepage. It says it is built to minimise costs, with no aggregator markup and no hidden fees, and that what you see is what you pay.

In practice, bridge costs usually combine a relayer fee, the destination-chain gas the relayer covers, and any swap pricing. The quote in the app is where you would see the total for your route and amount before signing. Origin-chain gas for your own transaction is separate.

Is Across safe?

Across says transfers are verified onchain, with no multisigs and no custodial risk, and that no user funds have been lost. DefiLlama lists two audits, but the project does not say who performed them or when. Treat the 'no funds lost' line as a claim from the project, not an independent finding.

Bridge risk is real in general. Users depend on smart contracts, the optimistic verification process, relayer behaviour and liquidity pools. Across is built by Risk Labs according to the footer; the project does not cover its regulatory status or any incidents. Use a small test transfer first, bookmark the official site, and avoid signing unexpected approvals.

6 steps

How to get started with Across

  1. 1

Open the official Across app from the project's verified website and check the address carefully.

  2. 2

Connect a self-custody wallet that supports the origin chain.

  3. 3

Choose the origin chain, the destination chain and the token and amount.

  4. 4

Review the quote, including the fee and the estimated arrival, and approve the token if prompted.

  5. 5

Confirm the transaction in your wallet and wait for funds to appear on the destination chain.

  6. 6

Check the History tab to confirm the transfer, and start with a small amount if you are new to bridging.

Who Across is for

Across is for DeFi users who bridge often between Ethereum and Layer 2s, for people who want to bridge and swap in one step, and for app developers who want an API instead of building their own bridging. It is less suited to people who will not accept any smart-contract or relayer risk.

Across FAQs

What is Across Protocol?

Across is a cross-chain bridge and swap protocol. Users move tokens between supported networks such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and Solana. Apps can also integrate it through an API.

How does the Across bridge work?

Across describes an intent-based design. A user states what they want on the destination chain, and relayers compete to fill the transfer from their own funds. The relayers are then reimbursed after the transfer is verified through an optimistic oracle and liquidity pools.

Is Across safe to use?

The homepage says Across has moved over $40B with no user funds lost and that every transfer is verified onchain with no multisigs. These are the project's own claims. Bridges still carry smart-contract risk, and DefiLlama lists two audits.

What does Across cost?

The homepage says fees are low with no aggregator markup and no hidden fees, but it publishes no rates. The cost for a given route and amount appears in the quote before you confirm.

Does Across have a token?

Yes. Across has a token called ACX according to DefiLlama. The homepage also links to a Rewards section and a Pool section, but the project does not describe how either works.

Which chains does Across support?

The homepage lists Ethereum, Arbitrum, Robinhood Chain, Arc, Optimism, Base, Polygon, Solana, zkSync, Linea, World Chain, Ink, Soneium, Unichain, BNB Smart Chain, HyperEVM, Plasma, Monad, MegaETH, Tempo, Tron and Avalanche, among others. The list changes, so check the app for the route you need.
