Risk curators are teams that manage how DeFi lending vaults put money to work. Instead of lending into a single market yourself, you deposit into a vault, and the curator chooses which markets and collateral it can use, sets caps, and changes those settings over time. This page lists 29 of them, from large names to small, newer operators.

Most vaults sit on top of lending protocols such as Morpho, Kamino or Silo Finance, and the curator works as a layer of risk judgment above them. Curators typically earn a performance fee on the yield, and some also run funds, managed accounts or advisory work for fintechs, exchanges and DAOs. That fee model rewards higher yield, which is why a curator's discipline on risk matters as much as the headline return.

When comparing, start with track record and size: at the time of writing, Steakhouse Financial (about $2.76B TVL) and Gauntlet (about $1.54B) are the largest, while KPK, Clearstar and Yearn Curating also have notable followings. Then check which assets and chains the vaults use, how transparent the risk framework is, fee terms, audits and past incidents. Smaller or newer listings, and any with a reported exploit such as Volo Vault, deserve extra caution. Curated vaults carry real risk of loss and are not financial advice.}

Frequently asked questions

What is a risk curator in DeFi?

A risk curator is a team that picks which markets and assets a lending vault can use, sets exposure limits, and adjusts them as conditions change. Depositors put funds into the vault and the curator handles allocation. Examples on this page include Gauntlet, Steakhouse Financial and Clearstar.

How do risk curators make money?

Curators usually take a performance fee, a share of the yield the vault earns, and some also earn from running funds, advisory work or products for institutional clients. Fee levels differ by vault, so check each vault's own terms before depositing.

Can I lose money in a curated vault?

Yes. Deposits are exposed to smart contract bugs, oracle failures, bad debt in lending markets, stablecoin depegs and curator mistakes. A curator chasing higher yield may also accept more risk than depositors expect. Funds in a vault are not insured and can be lost.

How do I compare risk curators?

Look at the assets and markets the vault allows, how concentrated the exposure is, how much TVL it holds, and how clearly the curator explains its risk policy. Also check the underlying protocol, such as Morpho, Kamino or Silo, and whether the code has been audited. A high advertised yield with little explanation is a warning sign.

Are risk curators only for institutions?

Not necessarily. Some, like RockawayX, Hyperithm and K3 Capital, focus on institutional or high-net-worth clients, but their onchain vaults can often be used by anyone with a compatible wallet. Eligibility and any restrictions depend on the specific vault and your location, so read the terms first.

Is this the same as crypto gambling?

No. Curators are not casinos, and these vaults are lending and yield products rather than gambling. Even so, the money is at risk, so only use funds you can afford to lose. If you also use crypto gambling sites, you must be 18+ (21+ in some places) and check that online gambling is legal where you live.

What is the largest risk curator by TVL?

Steakhouse Financial is the largest risk curator by total value locked, with $2.76B. It is followed by Gauntlet ($1.49B) and RockawayX ($299M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which risk curator has the highest DappsAtlas score?

Gauntlet has the highest score at 7.8/10, ahead of Yearn Curating (7.5) and Steakhouse Financial (7.4). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many risk curators does DappsAtlas track?

DappsAtlas tracks 40 risk curators. Of these, 40 have a full review and 39 report value locked, $6.01B in total.

What chains do most risk curators run on?

Ethereum is the most common, with 35 of 40 risk curators, followed by Base (23) and Arbitrum (11). 77% are deployed on more than one chain.

Which risk curators grew the most this week?

Among risk curators with at least $1M locked, Varlamore Capital had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+17.6%) and Telos Consilium the biggest drop (−92.5%). Combined TVL moved +1.3% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for risk curators?

The 32 rated risk curators average 6.3 out of 10. Of these, 0 score 8 or higher and 2 score below 5.
