Reserve currency dApps are DeFi protocols that issue a token supported by a treasury of crypto assets. The idea comes from Olympus DAO and its OHM token, which aimed to be a free-floating currency backed by a pool of assets instead of a fixed dollar peg. This page lists nine projects across Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, Berachain and Moonriver, from still-running protocols to ones that have wound down.
These protocols usually work by building a treasury and a stock of protocol-owned liquidity, rather than renting liquidity from outsiders. Olympus DAO and the Olympus listing use bonds, where users sell assets to the protocol at a discount for its token. Nirvana V2 on Solana takes a different route, with an ANA token that has a rising floor price and NIRV credit that is interest-free and non-liquidatable. Revenue comes from bonding spreads, treasury yield and fees on borrowing, minting or redeeming, so it rises and falls with demand for the token.
When comparing, start with whether the project is still active, since Snowbank, Jade Protocol and Romedao are mostly of historical interest. Then check treasury size and what backs the token: Nirvana V2 reported about $2.3M in TVL and The Idols about $6.5M at the time of writing, while others show little or none. Look at security history, such as The Idols' reported 2025 exploit, and at whether the token design makes sense to you. Olympus DAO has the highest score in our list. Any gambling-style or speculative product is for adults only (18+, or 21+ where required), so check the rules where you live before using one.

Frequently asked questions
What is a reserve currency dApp in DeFi?
A reserve currency protocol issues a token that is backed by assets held in a treasury, such as ETH, stablecoins or liquidity-pool tokens, rather than by a promise from a company. Olympus DAO and its OHM token started the model. Others, like Nirvana V2, use a rising floor price instead of a peg.
How do reserve currency protocols make money?
Most of these protocols earn through bonding discounts, protocol-owned liquidity, treasury yield and fees on minting, redeeming or borrowing. Some also charge fees on credit features. The income depends on treasury assets and on people continuing to use the system, so it can fall quickly when demand dries up.
Are reserve currency tokens safe?
Not necessarily. Token prices can swing hard, and several projects in this category have failed, shut down or been exploited. Wonderland had a 2022 scandal, Snowbank announced a shutdown in February 2022, and The Idols reported a roughly $340K exploit in January 2025. Treat any of these as high risk and only consider money you can afford to lose.
What is bonding in an OHM-style protocol?
Bonding lets users sell assets, often LP tokens or other crypto, to the protocol at a discount in exchange for its token, usually with a vesting period. The protocol gains treasury assets and liquidity it owns itself. The catch is that the discount only helps if the token price holds during the vesting period.
Are all of these projects still active?
Several are defunct or winding down. Jade Protocol's members voted in 2023 to dissolve it, Snowbank announced its shutdown in 2022, and Romedao's website has been reported offline since December 2025. Check whether a project is still active before you interact with any contract.
How should I compare reserve currency dApps?
Look at the treasury size and what it holds, on-chain activity, audit history, past incidents and how clear the documentation is. Our scores in this list put Olympus DAO and Nirvana V2 at the top, but a higher score does not remove smart contract or market risk. This is general information, not financial advice.
What is the largest reserve currency dApp by TVL?
The Idols is the largest reserve currency dApp by total value locked, with $6.01M. It is followed by Nirvana V2 ($2.29M) and Rezerve Money ($541K). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
Which reserve currency dApp has the highest DappsAtlas score?
Olympus DAO has the highest score at 6.9/10, ahead of Nirvana V2 (6.5) and Olympus (6.0). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.
