Gauntlet is a DeFi risk manager that now curates non-custodial yield vaults for fintechs, exchanges and asset managers, with about $1.5B in TVL on DefiLlama. Its strength is institutional distribution and a long risk-modeling record; the main caveat is that vault returns still carry underlying protocol risk.

Our verdict on Gauntlet

7.8/10

Gauntlet suits institutions, fintechs and DeFi users who want yield from vaults managed by an established risk team, instead of picking lending markets themselves. Its strength is a long risk-modeling record and broad integrations with consumer apps. The main caveat is that returns still depend on underlying protocols and smart contracts, no audits are listed on DefiLlama, and fees are not stated. Check each vault's documentation and fees before depositing.

What is Gauntlet?

Gauntlet is a DeFi risk-management firm that says it has worked in the sector since 2018. It began by modeling risk for large lending protocols and now curates yield vaults for institutional partners. DefiLlama lists it under Risk Curators, with roughly $1.54B in TVL across 14 chains.

The homepage describes it as a yield curator for fintechs, exchanges, asset managers and issuers. It reports $1.8B+ of capital allocated to its vaults and 150+ integrations. These figures are company claims, and the DefiLlama TVL is lower.

Named integrations include KAST, CoolWallet, Raenest, Bitso and DPT, along with a Privy partnership for embedded yield in smart wallets. Gauntlet also sells risk assessments, stress tests and incentive design, and publishes research and protocol risk dashboards.

Public reporting mentions a Series B round that valued the company at $1B in 2022 and a $125M investment from SBI Holdings. Gauntlet is listed on DefiLlama since May 2025 and has no token.

How Gauntlet works

Gauntlet acts as a curator. A curator chooses which lending markets and yield sources a vault can use, sets limits and rebalances over time. Users deposit an asset such as USDC or ETH and receive a share of the vault, and the vault allocates that capital across approved strategies.

Gauntlet says its approach combines quantitative, model-driven risk frameworks with human oversight. Its vaults lend, restake and run multi-strategy allocations across many markets, protocols and chains. One example on the homepage is Gauntlet USD Alpha, which uses variable and fixed yield on protocols like Morpho and Pendle across Ethereum and layer-2 networks.

Many users reach these vaults through partner apps instead of Gauntlet directly. Partners such as neobanks, exchanges and wallets integrate the vaults so their users can earn yield inside the app, while Gauntlet manages the strategy and risk behind it.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Long stated track record in DeFi risk management, with work since 2018.
  • Vaults are described as non-custodial, so depositors keep control of their assets.
  • Wide distribution, with named integrations such as KAST, CoolWallet, Raenest and Bitso.
  • Broad chain coverage, with 14 chains listed on DefiLlama.
  • A security stack that names Hypernative, Zeroshadow and Chainalysis.
  • Published research, vault documentation and risk dashboards give users material to evaluate strategies.

Watch out for

  • No smart-contract audits are listed on DefiLlama, so users must read the vault documentation and security page for assurance.
  • Vault performance depends on the curator's risk models and human decisions, so poor calls can cause losses or lower yields.
  • Yields rely on underlying protocols such as Morpho and Pendle, which add their own smart-contract and market risk.
  • TVL fell 5.2% over seven days, and vault yields are variable rather than guaranteed.
  • The product is aimed at institutions and integrating apps, so direct retail guidance and fee detail are limited on the homepage.
  • Gauntlet has no token of its own in the data, so there is no governance or fee-sharing asset for users to hold.

Gauntlet fees

Fees are not set out on the homepage or in the DefiLlama data. Vault fee structures, such as any performance or management fee, are not published.

The homepage says users of at least one integration, the KAST Earn program, pay no gas fees and that protocol rewards are auto-redeemed and compounded. For details of a specific vault, readers should check the vault page in the Gauntlet app and the VaultBook documentation before depositing.

Is Gauntlet safe?

No audits are listed on DefiLlama for Gauntlet. The homepage points to a defense-in-depth security stack with Hypernative for onchain monitoring, Zeroshadow for round-the-clock response monitoring and Chainalysis for tracing. These are monitoring tools and do not replace code audits, so readers should look for audit reports on the specific vault contracts they use.

Vault depositors face smart-contract risk, risk from underlying protocols like Morpho and Pendle, and market risk such as depegs or liquidity crunches. Curation can reduce but not remove these. The project does not mention any hacks or incidents. Regulatory status for the vaults is not stated, so check the rules in your jurisdiction. This is not investment advice.

How to get started with Gauntlet

  1. 1

Decide whether you are an institution wanting an integration or an individual wanting to deposit into a vault.

  2. 2

Browse the vault list in the Gauntlet app and compare each vault's asset, chain, strategy and stated risk level.

  3. 3

Read the VaultBook entry for the vault to understand its curation method and the protocols it allocates to.

  4. 4

Check the vault's fees and redemption terms before depositing, as these are not given on the homepage.

  5. 5

Connect a self-custodial wallet and deposit a small amount first, if the vault is available in your region.

  6. 6

Monitor APY and risk updates over time, since yields are variable.

Who Gauntlet is for

Gauntlet is for fintechs, exchanges, wallets, asset managers and stablecoin or RWA issuers that want to add onchain yield to a product. It also suits crypto holders and treasuries who prefer curated, risk-managed vaults over picking DeFi markets themselves, provided they accept smart-contract and market risk.

Gauntlet is a quantitative risk-management firm for DeFi that began in 2018 and now curates yield vaults. Partners such as fintechs, exchanges and wallets use these vaults to offer Earn programs to their users.

Are Gauntlet vaults safe?

Gauntlet describes its vaults as non-custodial, meaning depositors keep control of their assets onchain. Funds are still exposed to smart-contract risk and to the protocols the vaults allocate to, so non-custodial does not mean risk-free.

Gauntlet does not have a token according to DefiLlama. The data lists no token symbol for the project.

Which chains does Gauntlet support?

DefiLlama lists Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain, Solana, Hyperliquid, Unichain, Katana, Morph, Stable, Arc and Tempo. Each vault is deployed on specific chains, so check the vault page for details.

What yields do Gauntlet vaults offer?

The homepage cites Gauntlet USD Alpha as taking variable and fixed yield opportunities on protocols like Morpho and Pendle across Ethereum, Base, Optimism and Arbitrum. A search snippet of the vault list shows an APY of up to 7.98%, but yields vary and can change at any time.

Can individuals use Gauntlet vaults?

Gauntlet's main model is to partner with institutions and apps that embed its vaults, but it also has an app with a public vault list. Whether a given vault suits you depends on your region, the asset and the risk level.
