What SoFiUSD is

SoFiUSD (SOFID) is a U.S. dollar stablecoin issued by SoFi Bank, N.A., the national bank subsidiary of SoFi Technologies. It is designed to hold a value of one U.S. dollar per token. According to the project description, SoFi is the first national bank to launch a stablecoin on a public, permissionless blockchain.

The token is described as fully reserved. Each unit is backed 1:1 by cash, with reserves held in the bank's federal account. The stated aim is immediate redemption while keeping liquidity and credit risk low.

That makes SoFiUSD different from many older stablecoins, which are issued by non-bank companies and often hold a mix of cash, Treasury bills and other assets. Here the issuer is a regulated bank, so the token sits inside a banking framework rather than beside it. Whether that distinction matters to you depends on how much weight you give to issuer regulation versus other factors, such as how widely a token is accepted.

What the token is used for

The main use is as a digital dollar that moves on blockchains. Public announcements from May 2026 say SoFi members can buy, sell, hold and convert SoFiUSD inside the SoFi app. Coverage also mentions using it to buy crypto in the app or to send dollars to a supported external wallet.

Beyond retail use, SoFi says it is opening its stablecoin infrastructure to other institutions. Banks, fintechs and enterprises can integrate SoFiUSD into settlement flows, or issue white-label stablecoins using SoFi's regulatory, operational and reserve framework. Search coverage describes target uses such as round-the-clock settlement, instant redemption, remittances, point-of-sale payments and card network clearing.

SOFID is not a governance token and the public information available do not describe staking or fee-sharing features. It is a payment and settlement instrument, and that is how it should be understood.

Supply and tokenomics

A stablecoin's supply is not fixed. It expands when new tokens are issued against deposited dollars and shrinks when tokens are redeemed. SoFiUSD has no stated maximum supply.

As of 2026-11-05, circulating and total supply were both about 311.4 million tokens, which puts the market cap and fully diluted value at about $311.3 million. The token ranked around 131st by market cap at that point. Reported 24-hour trading volume was about $15.1 million.

The price was about $0.9995. Its recorded range since launch has been narrow: an all-time high of about $1.002 on 2026-08-07 and an all-time low of about $0.992 on 2026-09-25. Small deviations like these are normal for a dollar-pegged token on open markets. There is no inflation schedule, emission or token unlock to track. The key figure to watch is whether reserves match the tokens in circulation.

Chains and how it is held or traded

SoFiUSD is issued on Ethereum and Solana. It is not the native token of any chain. Holding it generally works like holding other tokens on those networks: you receive it at a compatible wallet address and can send it to others on the same chain.

For many SoFi customers, the simplest route is inside the SoFi app, where members can buy, sell, hold and convert the token. Moving it out to an external wallet is described as supported for certain wallets. Availability depends on your region, account status and the app's current features, so check what SoFi offers for your situation.

The token also appears on market data sites with trading volume, which indicates some secondary-market activity. Liquidity on any given exchange or pool can differ from the headline figure, so check the depth of the specific venue before moving a large amount.

History and notable events

Public sources provided do not give an exact launch date for the token's market listing. Announcements from SoFi Technologies dated May 27 and 28, 2026 describe the launch of SoFiUSD as a bank-issued dollar stablecoin for members, and an earlier article from December 2025 discussed SoFi's stablecoin plans in terms of payment and settlement efficiency rather than speculation.

Since then, the token has grown to a market cap in the low hundreds of millions of dollars. The recorded price history shows a tight band around one dollar and no significant depegging event in the data available.

SoFi has also been linked to a separate yield-bearing dollar token, according to one search snippet, which can be swapped at par for SoFiUSD. That product is distinct from SoFiUSD itself, and details such as the quoted rate should be checked directly with SoFi.

Risks to understand

Stablecoins carry several kinds of risk, and a bank issuer does not remove them all.

Peg and redemption risk. The 1:1 promise depends on reserves being available and on redemption working smoothly. Check who is eligible to redeem directly. Often only account holders at the issuer can do so, while others rely on market prices.

Issuer and regulatory risk. The token depends on one bank. Changes in rules, supervisory action or operational problems at the issuer could affect it. Stablecoin balances may not carry the same protections as ordinary bank deposits, so read SoFi's own disclosures on insurance and legal status.

Smart contract and bridge risk. Operating on Ethereum and Solana means exposure to contract bugs, and to risk from bridges if you move between chains by anything other than official routes.

Concentration and adoption risk. The token is relatively new, and its use outside the SoFi ecosystem is still developing.

Scams. Fake tokens with similar names exist on every chain. Verify the contract address from an official source before buying.

How to store it safely

If you keep SOFID in the SoFi app, your account security matters most. Use a strong unique password, turn on multi-factor authentication, and be wary of messages asking you to verify your account.

If you move it to a self-custody wallet, pick a wallet that supports the chain you are using, either Ethereum or Solana. Send a small test amount first, and make sure the network you choose matches the address you are sending to. Tokens sent on the wrong network can be lost.

Write your recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline, and never share it. A hardware wallet adds protection for larger balances. Avoid approving token permissions you do not understand, and revoke old approvals periodically.

Finally, keep in mind that stablecoin holdings are not a savings guarantee. Consider how much you hold in any single token and keep records for tax purposes, as rules vary by country. This page is general information and not financial advice.
