What OKB is
OKB is the platform token connected to OKX, a centralized crypto exchange that was originally called OKEx. It was issued by the OK Blockchain Foundation as a utility token, and it began as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Over time it has also become the native token of X Layer, a Layer 2 network tied to the OKX ecosystem.
That gives OKB two roles that are worth keeping apart. It is an exchange token, similar in concept to BNB for Binance or CRO for Crypto.com, so part of its value depends on how much people use the exchange. It is also a gas token for an onchain network, so it is used to pay transaction fees there.
At the time of writing, as of 2026-11-05, OKB ranked around 43rd by market capitalization, at about $2.32 billion. The price was about $110 per token. OKB is not a stablecoin and is not backed by any asset. Its price moves with market demand and with confidence in the issuer and the exchange.
What OKB is used for
Public descriptions of OKB, going back to its early days, say it is meant to lower trading fees on the exchange and to give holders a say in governance, such as voting on which assets the platform lists. Those uses depend on the exchange's own rules, which can change, so check the current terms on the platform rather than relying on older guides.
The second use is gas on X Layer. Anyone sending transactions or using apps on that network needs OKB to cover fees, which ties some token demand to how active the chain is. The same token is also described as part of the network's governance and operation.
The original announcement also said OKB would eventually be used across other projects related to the exchange, not just on the trading platform itself. How far that went in practice is something to confirm from current official announcements.
OKB is not a claim on exchange profits or equity. Holding it does not give ownership of OKX.
Supply and tokenomics
The figures here need care because they differ between sources and over time. At launch, the issuer described a total supply of one billion tokens. Of that, 60% was to be given out to exchange customers for community building and marketing campaigns, and the rest was to be locked for a period of one to three years. The project said it did not run an ICO or any public fundraising.
Current market data looks different. As of 2026-11-05, circulating, total and maximum supply are all listed at 21 million OKB, so the fully diluted valuation equals the market cap at about $2.32 billion. That is far below the original one billion, which means supply was reduced at some point after launch. The data given here does not explain how, so check the issuer's own announcements for the mechanism and dates.
The practical point is that OKB is no longer an inflationary token with large unlock schedules ahead, according to current figures. A fixed 21 million cap still does not guarantee a price, since demand can fall just as easily as it can rise.
Chains and how it is held and traded
OKB was first issued as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and it also existed on OKExChain, the exchange's earlier network. It is now the native token of X Layer, where it works as the gas asset. Because it exists on more than one network, always confirm which network a deposit or withdrawal address belongs to before sending funds. Sending to the wrong network can mean lost tokens.
Most trading happens on centralized exchanges, with OKX the natural home since OKB is its own token. Trading volume at the time of writing was about $20.5 million over 24 hours, which is modest next to the market cap, so large orders may move the price on thinner venues.
You can hold OKB in three general ways: on an exchange account, in a self-custody wallet that supports the relevant network, or on X Layer through a compatible wallet. Each has different trade-offs in convenience and control. Availability also varies by country, and some exchanges restrict certain regions, so check what applies where you live.
History and notable events
OKB launched in 2018 on Ethereum, issued by the OK Blockchain Foundation alongside a set of trading pairs on what was then OKEx. At the time, OKEx was described as one of the largest exchanges by trading volume. The launch plan included a customer giveaway for community building and a stated intention to move the token to the company's own chain.
That chain-migration idea evolved. The exchange rebranded from OKEx to OKX, and the token later became the native gas token of X Layer, a Layer 2 network. The market data lists an all-time low of about $0.58 on 2019-01-13 and an all-time high of about $228.74 on 2025-10-04.
Search coverage in March 2026 noted a sharp one-day rise in OKB that put it among the best performing large assets for that day. Such moves can be short-lived, and I would not read them as a trend. As of 2026-11-05, OKB was roughly 52% below its all-time high, about 0.6% lower over seven days and about 9.4% lower over one year.
Risks
OKB carries the usual crypto price risk, and some risks specific to exchange tokens.
Issuer dependence. Much of the token's utility depends on one company. Changes to fee discounts, governance rules, listings or the exchange's regulatory standing can affect it directly. If the exchange faces enforcement action, outages or a loss of user trust, the token is exposed.
Centralization. Despite its onchain role on X Layer, the token is closely tied to a centralized operator. Decisions on supply, utility and network direction are not made by a broad, independent community.
Supply changes. The move from a one billion plan to a 21 million supply shows that tokenomics can be changed by the issuer. Future changes are possible.
Liquidity and volatility. Daily volume is small relative to the market cap, and sharp swings in both directions have occurred. The price fell from its October 2025 high to about half of it by November 2026.
Technical risk. Bridges, Layer 2 networks and smart contracts can have bugs. Wrong-network transfers and fake tokens are common causes of loss. This is not financial advice.
How to store OKB safely
Where you keep OKB depends on why you hold it. If you use it for exchange fee discounts, it sits in your exchange account, which means the exchange controls the keys. That is convenient, but it adds counterparty risk. Use a strong unique password, two-factor authentication through an authenticator app rather than SMS, and withdrawal address allowlists if the platform offers them.
For longer-term holding, self-custody is an option. A hardware wallet that supports Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens can hold the Ethereum version of OKB, and an EVM-compatible wallet can connect to X Layer for the gas token. Write down your recovery phrase on paper, store it offline in more than one secure place, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone claiming to be support.
Before adding the token to a wallet, verify the contract address from the issuer's official documentation rather than from a search result or message. Send a small test transfer first, and double-check the network. Beware of airdrop scams and approval requests you do not recognize, and revoke token approvals you no longer need.
By the numbers
OKB in numbers
OKB (OKB) is ranked #43 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $2.20B and a price of $104.83 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($2.20B) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was down 7.7% over 7 days, down 22.0% over 30 days, down 12.7% over the past year. It trades about 54% below its all-time high of $228.74, set on Oct 4, 2025.
About 21M OKB are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 21M (100% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $30.4M, or 1.4% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
OKB is the native token of X Layer; it also has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, OKXChain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

OKB FAQs
What is OKB?
OKB is the platform token linked to the OKX exchange, issued by the OK Blockchain Foundation. It is used for fee discounts, governance on the platform, and as the gas token on X Layer. It is separate from OKX equity and gives no ownership of the company.
What is the total supply of OKB?
The current data lists a maximum, total and circulating supply of 21 million OKB as of 2026-11-05. The original 2018 plan described one billion tokens, so supply was reduced at some point. Check the issuer's announcements for the details.
Is OKB the gas token for X Layer?
Yes. OKB is the native gas token of X Layer, so it is used to pay transaction fees on that network. It also exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, which is where it was first issued.
Will OKB go up?
No one can say. The price was about $110 as of 2026-11-05, about half its all-time high of roughly $228.74 set in October 2025. Prices move quickly, and this page does not offer predictions or buy or sell advice.
Should I keep OKB on an exchange or in a wallet?
Both are options. An exchange account is convenient for fee discounts but means the exchange holds your keys. A self-custody wallet gives you control but also makes you responsible for your recovery phrase. Make sure you use the correct network when withdrawing.
What are the main risks of OKB?
OKB is tied to OKX, so its value and utility depend on that exchange's decisions and standing. Rules on fee discounts, governance or supply can change, and trading volume is modest relative to its market cap.
What is the market cap of OKB?
As of Nov 6, 2026, OKB had a market cap of about $2.20B, ranking #43 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of OKB?
OKB's all-time high is $228.74, reached on Oct 4, 2025. Its all-time low is $0.5806 (Jan 13, 2019). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of OKB?
As of Nov 6, 2026, about 21M OKB were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 21M.
Which blockchains is OKB on?
OKB is the native token of X Layer. It has token contracts on Ethereum, OKXChain.
