What Ethena (ENA) is

Ethena (ENA) is the governance token of the Ethena protocol, which issues a synthetic dollar called USDe and a yield-bearing version called sUSDe. Ethena describes itself as a stablecoin and asset-management protocol built on Ethereum. It was founded by Guy Young and launched in 2024.

USDe is not backed by bank deposits the way some stablecoins are. It aims to hold its value through a hedging approach often called basis trading: the protocol holds crypto collateral and offsets its price movement with short positions in derivatives. The goal is a dollar-like value without relying on traditional banking.

ENA is separate from USDe. USDe is the product users mint, hold or stake, while ENA is the token tied to how the protocol is steered. At the time of writing, ENA ranked about 41st by market capitalization, at roughly $2.40B as of 2026-11-05. It is classed here as both a DeFi token and a governance token.

What ENA is used for

The most consistent description across public sources are that ENA is a governance token. Holders can take part in decisions about protocol parameters, which commonly include which collateral is accepted, how hedging is handled and how fees are structured.

Some sources also mention uses beyond voting. One recent news item describes ENA being accepted as collateral to borrow USDC, which would let holders reach liquidity without selling. Retail help pages mention staking and transactions as well. Details such as reward rates, lockups or eligibility can change, so check the official Ethena documentation before relying on any of them.

It helps to keep the roles separate. USDe is what people use as a synthetic dollar, and sUSDe is the staked form that earns yield. ENA is the token that gives a voice in the protocol and, depending on current programs, may offer extra utility. Owning ENA does not by itself give a claim on reserves or a guaranteed share of protocol income.

Supply and tokenomics

ENA has a maximum supply of 15 billion tokens, which matches the total supply in the data. About 13.5 billion were circulating as of 2026-11-05, roughly 90% of the cap. That leaves a relatively small portion still to enter circulation compared with many newer tokens.

At a price of about $0.178, the market cap was around $2.40B and the fully diluted valuation about $2.67B. The gap between the two is small because most tokens are already out. Trading volume over 24 hours was about $349M at the time of writing.

This page does not break down the allocation, vesting schedule or any fee or buyback mechanics, because those details are not. Anyone researching the token should read the official tokenomics documentation and check how any remaining locked tokens are scheduled to be released. Supply figures from data aggregators can lag behind on-chain reality.

Chains and how it is traded

ENA is not the native coin of its own blockchain. It is issued as a token on many networks, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Solana, Avalanche, TON, Mantle, Scroll, zkSync Era, Blast, Mode and several others. Ethereum is the home of the Ethena protocol itself.

In general terms, people hold ENA in a self-custody wallet that supports the relevant chain, or leave it on a centralized exchange account. It trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges on the chains where it is issued. Moving it between chains normally involves an official bridge or a cross-chain messaging system, each of which adds its own technical risk.

Because the same ticker appears on so many networks, it is worth confirming which network a given balance sits on before sending anything. Sending tokens to an address on the wrong network can lead to permanent loss. Always verify contract addresses from the project's own documentation rather than from a search result or a message.

History and notable events

ENA was introduced in 2024 alongside the growth of USDe. It was also distributed through a Binance Launchpool programme, according to the category tags on the data. It reached its all-time high of about $1.52 on 2024-04-11.

Prices have fallen well below that peak. As of 2026-11-05 the token was around $0.178, down about 11.6% over seven days and about 43% over a year. The recorded all-time low was about $0.070, on 2026-06-30, so the token was roughly two and a half times above that low at the time of writing.

Those swings are a reminder that governance tokens can move sharply on market sentiment, changes in demand for USDe and wider crypto conditions. This page does not forecast price direction. For events such as audits, parameter changes or incidents, rely on the project's official announcements and governance forum rather than summaries from third parties.

Risks to understand

ENA carries ordinary token risks: volatile prices, uneven liquidity on some chains, and the chance that fresh unlocks or changing demand weigh on the market. Its value is also linked to how well the wider Ethena system performs.

The protocol's design adds specific risks. USDe relies on derivatives positions, so its stability depends on trading venues, custody arrangements and market conditions. Yield tied to funding rates can shrink or turn negative when the market shifts. A loss of confidence in USDe, or a hedging failure during extreme volatility, could hurt the protocol and the token. Smart contract bugs and bridge problems on any of the many chains are further exposure points.

Governance is another consideration. Voting power depends on holdings, and decisions about collateral or fees can change risk for everyone. There is also regulatory uncertainty around synthetic dollars and yield-bearing stablecoins, which can differ by country. None of this is advice to buy or sell.

How to store ENA safely

For anything beyond a small amount, many holders prefer a self-custody wallet where they control the keys. A hardware wallet adds protection against malware, particularly on Ethereum and other networks it supports. Write the recovery phrase down offline, never type it into a website or share it, and keep it away from cloud storage and screenshots.

Before receiving or sending ENA, confirm the network and the contract address from the project's official documentation. Fake tokens with the same name are common, especially on cheaper chains. Send a small test transaction first when moving a large amount.

Be cautious with approvals. When you connect a wallet to a dApp, you may grant it permission to spend your tokens, and it is sensible to review and revoke approvals you no longer need. If you keep ENA on an exchange, remember that you rely on the exchange's security and solvency, so use two-factor authentication and avoid leaving more there than you need.

By the numbers

Ethena in numbers

Ethena (ENA) is ranked #42 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $2.21B and a price of $0.1634 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $2.45B, so roughly 90% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 13.6% over 7 days, down 31.5% over 30 days, down 49.0% over the past year. It trades about 89% below its all-time high of $1.52, set on Apr 11, 2024.

About 13.5B ENA are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 15B (90% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $401M, or 18% of its market cap: high turnover.

ENA has token contracts on 18 chains we track, including Ethereum, Zircuit, Fraxtal, Metis. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

ENA is linked to Ethena, which we cover in our Basis Trading rankings. See our Ethena page for how the protocol works and how we score it.
