What Terra Luna Classic is
Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) is the native token of the original Terra blockchain, which was renamed Terra Classic after the network collapsed in May 2022 and a new chain took over the Terra name. The original token was called LUNA. After the split, the old chain's token became LUNC and the new chain's token kept the LUNA ticker.
Terra was built as a payment and stablecoin network. In its original design, Luna was the reserve asset that supported Terra's algorithmic stablecoins, most famously TerraUSD (UST). Luna was also used to stake and secure the chain.
Today Terra Classic is run by a community of holders, validators and developers rather than the original company. As of 2026-11-05, LUNC ranked around 151 by market capitalization, at about $228.7M, with a price near $0.00004146. Those figures move constantly, so treat them as a snapshot. The token trades at a tiny fraction of a cent per unit, which is a result of its huge supply and its 2022 history rather than a sign of how the project is run today.
What LUNC is used for
LUNC has a few publicly documented roles on the Terra Classic chain.
Staking. Holders can delegate LUNC to validators, who help produce blocks and secure the network. Delegators generally earn a share of rewards, and staked tokens usually have an unbonding period before they can be moved again.
Governance. LUNC holders can vote on on-chain proposals. Since 2022 this has been the main way the community decides on changes, including parameter updates and fee or burn mechanisms.
Transaction fees. The token is used to pay network fees on Terra Classic.
Validator incentives. Under the original Terra design, Luna also rewarded validators and acted as the backstop that kept Terra stablecoins close to their pegs. That stabilizing mechanism is exactly what failed in 2022, and it is not a working feature in the same way today.
Beyond these roles, much LUNC activity is simply trading on exchanges. Whether a token has real day-to-day use or mostly trades on sentiment is something readers should weigh for themselves.
Supply and tokenomics
LUNC has an unusually large supply. At the time of writing, the circulating supply was roughly 5.52 trillion tokens, and the total supply was roughly 6.44 trillion. No maximum supply is listed, so the cap is not fixed in the data we have. On that basis, fully diluted value was about $267.1M versus the market cap of about $228.7M.
The supply ballooned during the May 2022 collapse. When TerraUSD lost its dollar peg, the mechanism that let people swap UST for Luna created new Luna at a rapid pace, pushing the supply up by orders of magnitude and the price toward zero.
Since then, the community has focused on reducing supply, mainly through burn proposals, such as a tax on on-chain transactions that sends a portion of tokens to be destroyed. Burns depend on on-chain activity and exchange participation, so their effect on a supply this large is gradual. Check the chain's current parameters before assuming a particular burn rate.
There is no known team allocation or vesting schedule in the way many newer tokens have one, because LUNC is a legacy asset from a past network.
Chains, holding and trading
LUNC's native home is the Terra Classic blockchain, built with the Cosmos SDK. It is not issued as a native token on other chains in the data we have, though exchanges or bridges may offer wrapped or representation versions, which carry their own risks.
Most people get exposure in one of two ways. The first is buying LUNC on a centralized exchange, where it has been listed for years against major assets such as USDT and USD. The second is holding it in a self-custody wallet that supports the Terra Classic network, which lets you stake with validators and vote on proposals.
At the time of writing, 24-hour trading volume was about $6.5M, which is modest compared with its market cap but still meaningful liquidity for a token this size. Over the previous seven days the price moved about -6.5%, and over one year about +15.2%. These swings are typical for a low-priced, high-supply asset.
Exchange listings, delistings and available trading pairs can change. Check what your chosen platform currently supports, and whether it allows deposits and withdrawals on the native chain.
History and notable events
Terra launched as a stablecoin and payments network, and Luna rose sharply through 2021 and early 2022. According to the data, LUNC's all-time high was about $119.18 on 2022-04-05.
In May 2022, TerraUSD lost its peg to the dollar. Because the stablecoin was kept in line with Luna through a mint-and-burn arrangement, the peg failure led to a rapid issuance of new Luna and a price crash. The all-time low of about $0.000001 was recorded on 2022-05-12, only a few weeks after the peak.
The Terra community then voted to launch a new chain. After a hard fork on 2022-05-28, the new chain became Terra and used the LUNA ticker, while the old chain became Terra Classic and its token became LUNC. Exchanges and data sites adopted the Classic labels afterward.
The collapse caused large losses for holders across the market and led to legal and regulatory actions involving the original organization and its leaders. Since then, Terra Classic has continued as a community-run network, with governance proposals, validator activity and supply-reduction efforts shaping its direction.
Risks to understand
LUNC carries risks that go well beyond ordinary price volatility.
Price risk. The token fell by more than 99.9% from its all-time high, and a one-week or one-year move of several percent is routine. Past recoveries or rallies do not imply future ones.
Supply risk. With trillions of tokens in circulation and no fixed cap listed, a price move to any familiar level would require enormous market value growth. Burns may not offset that.
Reputation and regulatory risk. The Terra collapse is one of the most studied failures in crypto, and regulators have taken interest in the project's history. Exchanges may restrict or delist the token in some regions.
Governance and development risk. A community-run chain depends on volunteers, validators and token-holder votes. Progress can be slow or contested, and decisions may not be popular.
Scam risk. Because LUNC and LUNA share history and similar names, fake tokens, phishing sites and false airdrops are common. Confirm you are dealing with the right asset and network.

How to store LUNC safely
How you store LUNC depends on whether you want to trade it or hold and stake it.
On an exchange, your tokens are held by the platform. This is convenient for trading, but you rely on the exchange's security and solvency. Turn on two-factor authentication and use a strong, unique password.
In self-custody, you hold the private keys. Use a wallet that explicitly supports Terra Classic, and consider a hardware wallet if you hold meaningful amounts. Confirm current support in the wallet's documentation, since compatibility can change.
Write your recovery phrase on paper or metal, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone claiming to be support. Test a small transfer before moving a larger amount, and double-check that the network and address format match Terra Classic. Sending tokens on the wrong network can mean permanent loss.
If you stake, understand that delegated tokens usually have an unbonding period before withdrawal, and that validators can be penalized for misbehavior. Review a validator's track record and commission before delegating.

LUNC FAQs
What is the difference between LUNC and LUNA?
LUNC is the token of the original Terra chain, now called Terra Classic. LUNA is the token of the new Terra chain launched after the 2022 hard fork. They are separate assets on separate networks with separate prices.
Does LUNC have a maximum supply?
No maximum supply is listed in the data we have. At the time of writing, circulating supply was about 5.52 trillion tokens and total supply about 6.44 trillion. Community burn mechanisms aim to reduce supply over time.
What is LUNC used for?
LUNC is used for staking with validators, voting on governance proposals and paying fees on the Terra Classic chain. Much of its activity is also simple exchange trading.
Why did LUNC crash in 2022?
The collapse followed the loss of TerraUSD's dollar peg in May 2022. The mint-and-burn link between UST and Luna issued huge amounts of new Luna, which drove the price toward zero. The all-time low in the data is dated 2022-05-12.
Can LUNC recover to its old highs?
No one can say. The price was about $0.00004146 as of 2026-11-05, far below its 2022 peak, and the supply is very large. This page does not predict prices or give buy or sell advice.
Where can LUNC be held?
You can hold it on an exchange that lists it, or in a self-custody wallet that supports the Terra Classic network. Check current support before depositing, and always match the network and address format when transferring.
What is the market cap of Terra Luna Classic?
