Chiliz Chain is a layer-1 blockchain aimed at sports and entertainment, with fan tokens and fan engagement as its core use case. It is EVM-compatible, so developers can use familiar Ethereum tooling. Instead of mining, it relies on validators, and CHZ holders can delegate their tokens to them to help secure the network and vote on changes. The newer Chiliz Chain 2.0 design is described as offering shorter block times, lower fees and lower energy use.
CHZ is the native token. It pays transaction fees and is the asset staked with validators. Fan tokens are a separate part of the ecosystem and sit alongside CHZ. Because fees are paid in CHZ, you need a small balance of it to use any app on the chain.
