Bittensor is a blockchain network built to coordinate AI work. Instead of one general-purpose app layer, it is organized into subnets, each focused on a task such as AI inference, compute, data or model evaluation. Participants who produce useful output are scored and paid by the network's incentive system. It is a separate design from Ethereum-style chains, though an EVM environment on Bittensor lets some Ethereum-style apps run there.

The native token is TAO. It rewards contributors and is used for staking across the network. Fees are paid in TAO, and TAO can also be wrapped as wTAO on Ethereum through a bridge. We don't have a reliable DeFi TVL or token price figure for the chain itself, so check a live market source for current numbers.

The ecosystem is known for AI infrastructure more than classic DeFi. Chutes, a decentralized inference platform with an OpenAI-compatible API, is the largest native app on our list, at about $46.9M TVL at the time of writing. TaoFi is a small concentrated-liquidity DEX, Talisman is a wallet with Bittensor support, and wTAO connects TAO to Ethereum. Exchanges such as Bitget, Gate, SwissBorg and Gate US also appear because they support TAO trading. If you use any exchange, you must be of legal age where you live and check that its services are permitted in your location.

Bittensor FAQs

What is Bittensor?

Bittensor is a blockchain network built around subnets, each of which runs a specific AI-related task such as inference, compute or data. Contributors who do useful work are rewarded in the TAO token. Our page lists 11 dApps that touch the network in some way.

What is the TAO token used for?

TAO is Bittensor's native token. It is used to reward subnet participants and for staking within the network. Its price changes constantly, so check a live market source rather than relying on a figure printed here.

Is Bittensor an EVM chain like Ethereum?

Not in the usual sense. Bittensor is its own network with a different design, built around subnets and incentive rewards. It does have an EVM environment, which TaoFi uses, and wTAO is a version of TAO on Ethereum for people who want to use it in Ethereum markets.

Which dApps run natively on Bittensor?

Among the dApps on our list, Chutes is the main example. It is a serverless AI inference platform on Bittensor with an OpenAI-compatible API and pay-per-token pricing. Bittensor itself is also listed as a chain entry. Talisman supports Bittensor as a wallet, and TaoFi is a small DEX on the network.

What is wTAO?

wTAO is a wrapped form of TAO that a bridge mints 1:1 as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. It suits TAO holders who want to use their position in Ethereum-based markets. Using it means trusting the bridge and its custody setup, so read how it works first.

Are all the listed dApps safe to use?

Several are centralized exchanges, including Bitget, Gate, SwissBorg and Gate US, and they appear here because they list or support TAO-related trading. They are not built on Bittensor. Tensorplex Stake is also deprecated and only handles manual withdrawals. Check each entry's status before depositing funds, and note that smaller projects like TaoFi have small TVL and no listed audits.

What is the largest dApp on Bittensor by TVL?

Gate is the largest dApp on Bittensor by total value locked, with $5.84B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by Bitget ($5.82B) and SwissBorg ($810M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which dApp on Bittensor has the highest DappsAtlas score?

Gate has the highest score at 7.7/10, ahead of Bitget (7.6) and SwissBorg (7.4). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many dApps are on Bittensor?

DappsAtlas tracks 12 dApps on Bittensor. Of these, 12 have a full review and 8 report value locked, $12.6B in total, counting value on every chain they support.

What are the most common types of dApps on Bittensor?

Centralized Exchanges (4), AI (2) and Staking (2) are the largest categories on Bittensor, by number of projects.

Which dApps on Bittensor grew the most this week?

Among dApps with at least $1M locked, Gate US had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+4.6%) and wTAO the biggest drop (−7.9%). Combined TVL moved −3.1% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for dApps on Bittensor?

The 10 rated dApps on Bittensor average 6.6 out of 10. Of these, 0 score 8 or higher and 1 score below 5.
