Lunos Review 2026: From DeFi Insurance to a Compliance-First Chain

Lunos started as an on-chain insurance protocol and now presents itself as a compliance-first chain built on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack. It is a project in transition with little public data on the new chain.

Our verdict on Lunos

5.0/10

Lunos suits readers following early-stage infrastructure aimed at regulated and enterprise blockchain use, and those who already hold UNO or legacy coverage and want to understand the change. Its strength is a focused compliance and privacy thesis on top of Syscoin's zk-rollup stack. The main caveat is that the pivot is recent, usage data is thin, and the claims about security and compliance are unverified. Treat it as speculative and read the audits and terms first.

What is Lunos?

Lunos launched as a Web3 insurance protocol offering automated on-chain coverage. DefiLlama still lists it in the Insurance category with the UNO token, two audits and about $40,201 in TVL across Ethereum, BNB Chain, Kava and Rollux.

The homepage now tells a different story. In March 2026 the team announced a pivot to a compliance-first edge-chain built on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack. It targets regulated, privacy-sensitive and enterprise applications, such as tokenized assets, regulated DeFi, digital identity and enterprise data-sharing.

The site says the change follows two years of real-world feedback and market shifts. It also says Lunos has championed security and trust since 2021. No usage figures, partners or technical specifications for the new chain appear, so this review treats it as an early-stage direction.

How Lunos works

The earlier Lunos product was on-chain coverage: users could protect assets against events such as smart contract failures, stablecoin depegs and validator slashing, under written terms for each cover type. DefiLlama's description calls it automated coverage with no claims process.

The new direction is a separate blockchain. Lunos describes a chain built on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack, where zero-knowledge proofs are used for privacy and the rollup settles through Syscoin, which is merge-mined with Bitcoin. In theory this gives the chain Bitcoin-linked security while handling transactions cheaply off the base layer.

Compliance is meant to sit in the protocol: identity checks (KYC, AML, KYB), whitelisted pools and selective disclosure, so institutions can prove things to regulators without exposing all data. UNO pays for gas. How this works in practice is not shown publicly.

7 features

Key features

01

Compliance-first chain

The new Lunos chain is designed around regulated, privacy-sensitive and enterprise applications, with KYC, AML, KYB and auditable disclosure supported natively.

02

Privacy by design

The homepage says zero-knowledge proofs, selective disclosure and confidential transactions are built into the protocol layer.

03

Syscoin zk-rollup base

Lunos is built on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack and says it inherits Bitcoin-anchored security via Syscoin.

04

Regulated DeFi

Planned use cases include whitelisted pools, compliant settlements and controlled environments for institutional participants.

05

Enterprise use cases

The project lists tokenized assets, enterprise data-sharing, digital identity and credentials, and banking or government record systems as target uses.

06

UNO gas token

UNO is described as the gas token for fees and network services, with value tied to chain usage.

07

Legacy coverage terms

The site links to Smart Contract Coverage, Stablecoin Depeg and Validator Slashing terms from the earlier insurance product.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Clear, specific positioning: compliance, privacy and enterprise use rather than a generic chain
  • Builds on Syscoin's existing zk-rollup stack instead of a from-scratch network
  • DefiLlama lists two audits for the legacy contracts
  • Legacy coverage terms for smart contracts, stablecoin depegs and validator slashing are published
  • The team openly explains the pivot and links its announcement

Watch out for

  • The pivot was announced in March 2026, so the new chain is early and its production usage is not documented
  • TVL is only about $40,201, which suggests little capital is exposed to the legacy coverage products
  • Homepage claims about Bitcoin-level security, compliance and throughput are not backed by published figures or audit details
  • Native KYC/AML at chain level may be unappealing to users who want permissionless access
  • The utility-token pitch of 'no regulatory headaches' is a marketing claim, not a legal conclusion
  • Which chains and products are still live after the pivot is unclear from public sources

Lunos fees

Fees are not published publicly. The homepage says only that the chain offers predictable operations and low-cost execution, and that UNO pays for transaction fees and network services.

For the legacy insurance products, premiums and claim terms are not listed. Users would find them in the app and in the Smart Contract Coverage, Stablecoin Depeg and Validator Slashing terms linked from the official site.

Is Lunos safe?

DefiLlama lists two audits, but the project does not name the auditors or give findings. The site has a Security Hub and a Legal & Advisory section where reports and disclosures should be checked. Smart contract risk applies to any legacy contract, and coverage products carry the added risk that payouts depend on terms and on the protocol's capital.

The new chain's security rests on claims about Syscoin and Bitcoin anchoring, and on compliance features that are not independently verified. No hacks or incidents appear. Because the project is in a strategic transition, readers should expect changes to products, support and the token's role.

6 steps

How to get started with Lunos

  1. 1

Read the March 2026 pivot announcement linked on the official site to see what has changed.

  2. 2

Review the Security Hub and the listed audit reports before interacting with any contract.

  3. 3

Read the Terms of service and the coverage terms if you are considering the legacy insurance products.

  4. 4

Check which network the app you want runs on (Ethereum, BNB Chain, Kava or the new Lunos chain) and use a wallet that supports it.

  5. 5

If you buy UNO, use the exchange or platform options linked from the site and confirm the contract address from official channels.

  6. 6

Start with a small amount, as the project is in transition and activity is low.

Who Lunos is for

Lunos is for readers interested in compliance-oriented blockchain infrastructure, such as tokenized assets, identity and enterprise data-sharing, and for existing UNO holders or coverage users tracking the pivot. It is less suited to users who want a proven, high-liquidity DeFi protocol or fully permissionless access.

Lunos FAQs

What is Lunos?

Lunos is a project that began as a Web3 insurance protocol offering automated on-chain coverage. In March 2026 it announced a pivot to a compliance-first edge-chain built on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack, aimed at regulated and enterprise uses.

What is the UNO token used for?

UNO is the project's token. The homepage describes it as a pure utility token that works as the gas token for transaction fees and network services on the Lunos chain. The project does not give supply, price or distribution details.

Is Lunos secured by Bitcoin?

The homepage says Lunos is built on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack and inherits Bitcoin-anchored security through Syscoin. That is the project's own claim, and readers should verify it against technical documentation and audits.

Does Lunos still offer insurance cover?

The homepage still links to Smart Contract Coverage, Stablecoin Depeg and Validator Slashing terms, and DefiLlama lists it under Insurance with small TVL. Whether new cover can still be bought after the pivot is not stated, so check the app and the official announcement.

Which networks does Lunos support?

DefiLlama shows Ethereum, BNB Chain, Kava and Rollux for the legacy protocol. The new Lunos chain is described as running on Syscoin's zk-rollup stack.

Has Lunos been audited?

Public sources list two audits on DefiLlama but give no auditor names or reports. Check the Security Hub on the official site for the reports and read them before using any contract.
