Aptos is a Layer 1 blockchain built around the Move programming language, not the Ethereum Virtual Machine. It uses proof-of-stake consensus (AptosBFT) with validators confirming transactions. Its Block-STM engine runs transactions in parallel rather than one after another, which is how it aims for fast finality and high throughput. Because it is not EVM-based, apps have to be written for Move specifically.
The native token is APT. It pays transaction fees, which are generally low, and is staked to secure the network. Holders who want to stake and still use their capital in DeFi can use liquid staking protocols, which issue a tradable receipt token in return.
On our site, 72 dApps are tied to Aptos. Its DeFi TVL was about $40.4M at the time of writing. Native activity centres on trading and staking: Decibel offers perpetual futures, LiquidSwap, Hyperion and the ThalaSwap versions handle swaps, and Amnis Finance and Thala LSD cover liquid staking. Cetus CLMM offers concentrated liquidity on Aptos, and Propbase and KAIO bring tokenised real estate and funds. Many large exchanges also appear in our listings. They are custodial services, not Aptos-native apps.

Aptos Blockchain Guide: How It Works, APT, Move and StakingAptos is a proof-of-stake layer-1 built around the Move language and parallel transaction execution. This guide covers how it works, what APT does, how to use wallets, staking and bridges, and where to check live data.

Blockchain for Data: Uses, Limits and How It WorksBlockchains can create shared records that are difficult to alter, but they are not a general-purpose replacement for databases or file storage. Frequently asked questions
What is Aptos?
Aptos is a Layer 1 blockchain that uses the Move smart contract language, proof-of-stake consensus (AptosBFT) and Block-STM parallel execution. Developers build dApps on it for DeFi, trading, staking and tokenised assets.
Is Aptos EVM-compatible?
No. Aptos runs Move rather than the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so Solidity contracts do not run on it unchanged. Wallets and developer tools are different from Ethereum's, and projects that exist on both chains, such as Cetus, ship separate versions.
What is the APT token used for?
APT is the native token. It pays network fees and is staked with validators to help secure the chain. Holders can also stake through liquid staking protocols such as Amnis Finance and Thala LSD.
Which DEXes and trading apps are on Aptos?
Among the Aptos-native projects on our list, the main DEXes are LiquidSwap, Hyperion and the ThalaSwap versions (V1, V2 and V3). Cetus CLMM also has an Aptos version. Decibel is the main derivatives venue listed here. Liquidity on each venue is small compared with larger chains, so check pool depth before trading.
How big is the Aptos DeFi ecosystem?
At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on Aptos is about $40.4M, which is modest next to the largest chains. TVL moves daily, so treat that figure as a snapshot. It also doesn't tell you whether a given protocol is safe.
Are all the listed apps built only for Aptos?
Some pages here cover multi-chain or custodial platforms such as OKX or Gate that list Aptos among many supported networks. They are not Aptos-native dApps, and your funds sit with the exchange. Staking and DeFi protocols on Aptos carry smart contract risk, so read each protocol's documentation and never put in more than you can afford to lose.
What is the largest dApp on Aptos by TVL?
Binance CEX is the largest dApp on Aptos by total value locked, with $127B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by OKX ($28.4B) and Bitget ($5.93B). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
Which dApp on Aptos has the highest DappsAtlas score?
How many dApps are on Aptos?
DappsAtlas tracks 81 dApps on Aptos. Of these, 81 have a full review and 46 report value locked, $171B in total, counting value on every chain they support.
What are the most common types of dApps on Aptos?
DEXes (14), Centralized Exchanges (12) and Lending (11) are the largest categories on Aptos, by number of projects.
Which dApps on Aptos grew the most this week?
What is the average score for dApps on Aptos?
