Flow is a layer 1 blockchain built by Dapper Labs, the company behind CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot. Instead of sharding the chain, it splits the work of processing transactions across different node roles, such as collection, consensus and execution nodes, which is meant to keep throughput high while apps share a single state. Its native smart contract language is Cadence, designed around digital ownership, and Flow also runs an EVM-compatible environment so Ethereum-style contracts can be deployed.

The native token is FLOW. It pays network fees, which are designed to stay low and predictable, and it can be staked to help secure the network. Staking can be done directly or through liquid staking services such as Increment Liquid Staking and Ankr. DeFi activity is modest: total value locked was about $10.5M at the time of writing, so it is a small ecosystem compared with the largest chains.

Flow's ecosystem is known mainly for consumer apps. Licensed sports collectibles lead the way, including NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day, alongside FanCraze, games like Chainmonsters and MFL, and the CryptoKitties collectible game. On the DeFi side, Increment Finance covers swaps, lending and liquid staking, KittyPunch runs PunchSwap and StableKitty, and MORE Markets and MORE Vaults offer lending and vault strategies. Infrastructure names like LayerZero V2 and TAU Labs also reach Flow. This page lists 31 dApps to compare.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Flow blockchain?

Flow is a layer 1 blockchain created by Dapper Labs, the team behind CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot. It was built for consumer apps such as NFT collectibles and games, and it also supports DeFi protocols and cross-chain tools.

Is Flow compatible with Ethereum?

Flow is built around its own Cadence smart contract language, and it also offers an EVM-compatible environment. Developers can therefore write native Flow apps or deploy Ethereum-style contracts. Some dApps on the chain, such as KittyPunch PunchSwap, use the EVM side.

What is the FLOW token used for?

FLOW is the native token. It is used to pay network fees and for staking, and holders can stake directly or use a liquid staking option such as Increment Liquid Staking or Ankr. Check the current staking terms on each platform before depositing.

Does Flow use sharding?

No. Flow uses a multi-role node design that splits the work of processing transactions across different node types, instead of dividing the chain into shards. This is intended to let the network scale while keeping a single shared state for apps.

How big is DeFi on Flow?

Flow's DeFi TVL was about $10.5M at the time of writing, which is small next to the large smart contract chains. Most of that sits in a handful of protocols such as Ankr, TAU Labs and MORE Markets, so liquidity can be thin on smaller pools.

Which dApps are popular on Flow?

Flow is best known for sports and collectible NFTs, with NBA Top Shot, NFL All Day and FanCraze as examples. Games like Chainmonsters and MFL also run on it. DeFi tools include Increment Finance, MORE Markets and KittyPunch.

What are the risks of using Flow dApps?

Small DeFi protocols can carry smart contract risk, thin liquidity and price swings, and some listed projects are in early beta. Read each dApp's page, start with small amounts and never put in funds you cannot afford to lose. Nothing here is financial advice.

What is the largest dApp on Flow by TVL?

LayerZero V2 is the largest dApp on Flow by total value locked, with $17.9B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by Ankr ($23.9M) and TAU Labs ($11.7M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which dApp on Flow has the highest DappsAtlas score?

LayerZero V2 has the highest score at 8.0/10, ahead of Ankr (7.6) and Increment (6.8). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many dApps are on Flow?

DappsAtlas tracks 31 dApps on Flow. Of these, 31 have a full review and 14 report value locked, $17.9B in total, counting value on every chain they support.

What are the most common types of dApps on Flow?

DEXes (7), Lending (3) and Games: Sports (3) are the largest categories on Flow, by number of projects.

Which dApps on Flow grew the most this week?

Among dApps with at least $1M locked, LayerZero V2 had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+10.6%) and MORE Vaults the biggest drop (−10.7%). Combined TVL moved +10.6% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for dApps on Flow?
