Moonriver is a smart contract blockchain that runs as a parachain on Kusama. It is built with Substrate and written in Rust, and it is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Developers can deploy Solidity contracts and users can connect with Ethereum-style wallets. Its security and finality come from the Kusama network it plugs into, rather than from a standalone validator set. Moonriver is the companion to Moonbeam, which connects to Polkadot, and new code ships to Moonriver first.
The native token is MOVR. It is used to pay gas fees on the network and also plays a part in staking and governance. Because Moonriver is EVM-compatible, fees work much as they do on other EVM chains, with each transaction paying a gas cost in the native token. At the time of writing, our data shows no DeFi TVL recorded for the chain itself.
We list 38 dApps for Moonriver, though many are multichain projects with only a small presence here. Lido, SushiSwap and LayerZero V2 are the largest names in the list, but their TVL comes mostly from other networks. Moonriver-specific projects include the lending protocol Moonwell Apollo, the prediction market Polkamarkets, the yield optimizer Kogefarm and the lender Neku. The list also covers bridges such as Meter Passport. Some older listings, such as Romedao, appear inactive, so check each page before using a dApp.

Moonriver FAQs
What is Moonriver?
Moonriver is a smart contract parachain on Kusama, built with Substrate and compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. It is run in connection with the Moonbeam Foundation and is the companion network to Moonbeam.
Is Moonriver compatible with Ethereum wallets and contracts?
Yes. Moonriver is EVM-compatible, so Ethereum-style contracts and wallets such as MetaMask can work with it once the network is added. You switch your wallet to the Moonriver network and use MOVR to pay gas.
What is MOVR used for?
MOVR is the native token. It pays transaction fees on the network, and it also has a role in staking and governance. Check current token details in an official source before relying on them.
How is Moonriver different from Moonbeam?
Moonbeam is the version connected to Polkadot, while Moonriver is connected to Kusama. Moonriver is described as a permanently incentivized canary network, where new code ships first. The two networks share a design, but they have separate tokens and separate ecosystems.
Which dApps can I find on Moonriver?
Our list includes Lido, Moonwell Apollo, Polkamarkets, Kogefarm, Meter Passport, Neku and Romedao. Several of these, such as Lido, run on many chains, so their headline TVL is not a Moonriver figure. Check each dApp's page for how it works on this chain.
Are all Moonriver dApps still active and safe to use?
Not necessarily. Some listings are small or inactive. Romedao's website was reported offline since December 2025, and Meter Passport's site says transfers are paused after a reported hack. Look at each dApp's score and notes, and only use funds you can afford to lose.
Is it legal to use prediction markets like Polkamarkets?
Polkamarkets is a prediction market protocol where users trade on real-world event outcomes, and we categorize it as gambling. You must be 18 or older (21 or older in some places) and should check that this activity is legal where you live. Do not try to get around local restrictions, age checks or KYC.
What is the largest dApp on Moonriver by TVL?
Lido is the largest dApp on Moonriver by total value locked, with $21.7B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by LayerZero V2 ($16.7B) and Gate ($5.84B). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
Which dApp on Moonriver has the highest DappsAtlas score?
Lido has the highest score at 8.6/10, ahead of LayerZero V2 (8.0) and Gate (7.7). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.
How many dApps are on Moonriver?
DappsAtlas tracks 36 dApps on Moonriver. Of these, 36 have a full review and 25 report value locked, $44.4B in total, counting value on every chain they support.
