Tezos is a proof-of-stake blockchain that launched in 2018. It uses Liquid Proof of Stake, in which token holders can run validation themselves, a role called baking, or delegate their stake to a baker without giving up custody. Tezos is also known for self-amending governance: protocol upgrades are proposed and voted on by participants on-chain rather than forced through a hard fork. It is not an EVM chain, so its native contracts are written for its own virtual machine, although Etherlink, an EVM-compatible chain linked to Tezos, appears alongside it in some listings here.
The native token is XTZ, or tez. It pays transaction fees, is used for staking and delegation, and takes part in governance. DeFi activity on Tezos is modest: total value locked was about $19.3M at the time of writing, and most protocols hold small amounts of liquidity. That matters when you swap or provide liquidity, because prices can move more than expected on thin pools.
The Tezos ecosystem is best known for DEXes, synthetic assets and NFTs. Youves leads on locked value with its synthetic assets, while the QuipuSwap versions and Sirius cover swaps and liquidity. Yupana handles lending and Kolibri issues the kUSD stablecoin. Objkt is the main NFT marketplace, and Hic et Nunc was an influential art marketplace whose community moved on as Teia. 3route aggregates swaps and Temple Wallet is a common wallet. Large centralized exchanges such as Binance, Bitget and Gate also appear on the list, but they are multi-chain services rather than Tezos-native apps.

Tezos FAQs
What is Tezos?
Tezos is an open-source, proof-of-stake blockchain for smart contracts and decentralized applications. Its mainnet launched in 2018, and it is known for letting the protocol upgrade itself through on-chain votes by participants.
What is XTZ used for?
XTZ, also called tez, pays transaction fees and is used for staking. Holders can stake it directly or delegate it to a baker, the Tezos term for a validator, and the network also uses it in governance.
Is Tezos compatible with Ethereum apps?
Tezos itself is not an EVM chain, and its native smart contracts are written for its own virtual machine rather than Solidity. Etherlink, an EVM-compatible chain connected to Tezos, shows up beside it in some listings, including 3route and Lyzi.
Which dApps are the main ones on Tezos?
Among Tezos-native projects on our list, Youves, Sirius and the QuipuSwap versions are the largest by locked value. Objkt and Hic et Nunc cover NFTs, Yupana and Kolibri cover lending and stablecoins, and 3route is a swap aggregator.

Are the centralized exchanges on this page Tezos dApps?
