Osmosis is a proof-of-stake blockchain in the Cosmos ecosystem, built with the Cosmos SDK as its own application-specific chain. It is not EVM-based. Smart contracts run in CosmWasm, and the chain connects to other Cosmos networks through IBC, the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol, so assets can move between chains without a centralized bridge operator. Validators secure the network, and OSMO holders can delegate their tokens to them.

OSMO is the native token. People use it for staking, governance votes and paying network fees, which are generally small. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on Osmosis is about $9.7M, so the on-chain economy is modest. Our list also includes large centralized exchanges such as Bitget, Gate and SwissBorg, whose big TVL figures belong to those platforms and not to Osmosis itself.

The chain is best known for trading and staking. Osmosis DEX, the core AMM, lets users swap IBC-connected assets from their own wallets, and Astroport offers another liquidity venue. Liquid staking is a major category, with Stride, Eris Protocol, MilkyWay Liquid Staking and Orchai LST. Nolus Protocol adds lending and margin. Some projects, including Quasar Vaults and Levana Perps, are being wound down or put into maintenance, so check each one's status before using it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Osmosis?

Osmosis is a proof-of-stake blockchain in the Cosmos ecosystem, built to trade and move assets between IBC-connected chains. Its main product is Osmosis DEX, an automated market maker where users swap tokens from their own wallets.

Is Osmosis an EVM chain?

No, Osmosis is not an EVM chain. It is built with the Cosmos SDK and uses CosmWasm smart contracts, so Ethereum wallets and Solidity apps do not work on it directly. Users typically use Cosmos-compatible wallets.

What is the OSMO token used for?

OSMO is the native token. It is used to stake and help secure the network, to vote on governance proposals and to pay transaction fees. Fees are usually small, but the exact amounts change with network settings, so check your wallet before you confirm.

Which dApps are popular on Osmosis?

Liquid staking is a big theme. Stride, Eris Protocol, MilkyWay Liquid Staking and Orchai LST all let holders stake tokens and get a tradable receipt token. Astroport is a second DEX, and Nolus Protocol offers lending and margin trading.

How much value is locked in Osmosis DeFi?

The chain's DeFi TVL was about $9.7M at the time of writing, which is modest next to the largest chains. Several of the biggest TVL figures on this page belong to centralized exchanges, which are listed here but are not native on-chain apps.

Are all the dApps listed for Osmosis still active?

Not all of them. Quasar Vaults is deprecating its vaults as it becomes Tower.fi, and Levana Perps is moving to maintenance mode as its foundation winds down. Check each project's current status before you deposit funds.

What is the largest dApp on Osmosis by TVL?

Bitget is the largest dApp on Osmosis by total value locked, with $5.93B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by Gate ($5.91B) and SwissBorg ($812M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which dApp on Osmosis has the highest DappsAtlas score?

Gate has the highest score at 7.7/10, ahead of Bitget (7.6) and SwissBorg (7.4). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many dApps are on Osmosis?

DappsAtlas tracks 19 dApps on Osmosis. Of these, 19 have a full review and 16 report value locked, $12.7B in total, counting value on every chain they support.

What are the most common types of dApps on Osmosis?

Centralized Exchanges (4), Staking (4) and DEXes (3) are the largest categories on Osmosis, by number of projects.

Which dApps on Osmosis grew the most this week?

Among dApps with at least $1M locked, Bitget had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+1.6%) and Osmosis DEX the biggest drop (−13.7%). Combined TVL moved −0.8% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for dApps on Osmosis?

The 15 rated dApps on Osmosis average 6.2 out of 10. Of these, 0 score 8 or higher and 2 score below 5.
