Astroport is an automated market maker and DEX for the Cosmos ecosystem that runs on Terra and several other chains. It focuses on passive liquidity provision, but its TVL is modest.

Good
Our verdict on Astroport
6.8/10Astroport suits DeFi users in the Cosmos ecosystem who want to swap tokens or provide liquidity without managing positions constantly. Its strengths are the passive-liquidity pool design, permissionless incentives and integrations with Mars and Apollo. The main caveats are modest TVL of about $2.7 million, a small drop over the week, and efficiency claims that come from the project itself. Fees are not published publicly, so check the app first. Start small and read the audits.

What is Astroport?
Astroport is a decentralized exchange and automated market maker built for the Cosmos ecosystem. DefiLlama calls it the meta AMM of Cosmos, and the homepage describes a permissionless liquidity network where users swap tokens and provide liquidity.
DefiLlama lists it on Terra (terra2), Injective, Osmosis, Neutron and Sei, with about $2.7 million in TVL. It has been tracked since June 2023 and has the ASTRO token. The listing shows two audits.
The pitch is passive liquidity: pools designed so providers do not need to rebalance positions often. Other Cosmos projects build on top, including lending and auto-compounding services.
This review draws on public data and the project's own homepage, not hands-on use.
How Astroport works
Astroport is an automated market maker. Instead of an order book, traders swap against pools of two or more tokens that liquidity providers have deposited. The pool's pricing formula sets the exchange rate, and providers earn a share of the trading fees.
According to the homepage, Astroport uses algorithmic pools that it says are up to three times more efficient than traditional pools. The aim is to give traders better prices and providers better returns without active position management, which it calls passive liquidity.
Pools and incentives are permissionless, so anyone can create a pool or direct incentives to attract liquidity. Liquidity positions are fungible tokens, so other protocols can use them. The homepage names Mars, which lets users borrow against liquidity positions, and Apollo, which offers auto-compounding vaults. It also names Eclipse Equinox for meta-governance and NCoS for community vxASTRO voting.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Pool design aims at passive liquidity, so providers do not need to rebalance often
- Permissionless pools and incentives let communities attract liquidity to tokens they care about
- Liquidity positions are fungible and are used by other protocols such as Mars and Apollo
- Listed on five chains in the Cosmos ecosystem and adjacent networks according to DefiLlama
- Two audits are listed on DefiLlama
- Has been tracked by DefiLlama since June 2023 and has documentation and an active social presence
Watch out for
- TVL is small at about $2.7 million, with a 4.4% drop over the last 7 days, so some pools may be thin
- Spread across several Cosmos-ecosystem chains, so users must manage bridging and multiple chain wallets
- Only two audits are listed on DefiLlama, and the project does not name the auditors or the scope
- Impermanent loss is reduced by the pool design but not eliminated, and the efficiency claims come from the project itself
- Homepage statistics show $0 for TVL and market cap, and the page says both 2 chains and lists five chains elsewhere, so the project's own data is inconsistent
- Permissionless pools and incentives mean users must judge the quality of individual pools and tokens themselves
Astroport fees
Astroport's fees are not published. Trading fees on an AMM like this are usually set per pool and charged on each swap, with most of the fee going to liquidity providers. Users should see the fee, the expected price impact and the network gas cost in the app before approving a swap, and should check the documentation for the pool types in use.
Providing liquidity also carries costs that are not fees, mainly impermanent loss and chain gas costs. The homepage says its pool design minimises impermanent loss, but public sources give no figures.
Is Astroport safe?
DefiLlama lists two audits, but the project does not name the auditors or the findings. Like any DEX, Astroport is non-custodial: you keep your tokens in your own wallet and interact with smart contracts. The main risks are smart-contract bugs, risky or illiquid pools, and the chains and bridges involved.
Permissionless pool creation means some pools may hold low-quality tokens. Check the token pair, liquidity depth and incentives before depositing. No incidents are mentioned publicly, and none should be assumed either way. The homepage links terms of use and a privacy policy, which are worth reading. Check that using DeFi services is permitted where you live.
6 steps
How to get started with Astroport
- 1
Install a wallet that supports the chain you want to use, such as a Cosmos-ecosystem wallet for Terra or Neutron.
- 2
Fund the wallet with the chain's native token for gas and the tokens you want to swap or deposit.
- 3
Open the Astroport app from the official website and connect your wallet.
- 4
Start with a small swap on the Swap page and check the price impact and fees shown before confirming.
- 5
To provide liquidity, browse the Pools page, read the pool's token pair and incentives, then deposit.
- 6
Read the documentation on the ASTRO token, vxASTRO voting and incentives before staking or locking anything.
Who Astroport is for
Astroport is for users of Cosmos-ecosystem chains such as Terra, Neutron, Injective, Osmosis and Sei who want to trade or earn from liquidity provision. It also suits protocols and treasuries wanting permissionless pools for their tokens. Newcomers should be comfortable with wallets, gas fees and impermanent loss before depositing.

Astroport is a decentralized exchange and automated market maker. Users swap tokens and provide liquidity to pools. DefiLlama describes it as the meta AMM of Cosmos.
Which blockchains does Astroport support?
DefiLlama lists Terra (terra2), Injective, Osmosis, Neutron and Sei. The homepage mentions availability on Neutron and Terra and refers to 2 chains, so check the app for what is currently live.
What is the ASTRO token?
ASTRO is the protocol's token according to DefiLlama. The homepage links to a buy page for it and mentions vxASTRO voting. Details on supply and emissions are not public, so check the documentation.
Does Astroport reduce impermanent loss?
The homepage says its algorithmic pools are up to three times more efficient than traditional pools and aim to reduce impermanent loss without active management. This is the project's own claim. Impermanent loss can still occur, and returns are not guaranteed.
Is Astroport audited?
DefiLlama lists two audits for Astroport, but the project does not say who performed them or what they covered. Audits lower risk but do not remove it, so read the reports in the documentation.
