Terra2 is a proof-of-stake blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, secured by validators using Tendermint-style consensus. It launched in 2022 as a fresh start after the collapse of the original Terra chain and its algorithmic UST stablecoin, and it is not a fork of that chain. Smart contracts run on CosmWasm rather than the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so it is not EVM-compatible. It can talk to other Cosmos chains through IBC.

The native token is LUNA, which is used for transaction fees and for staking to validators. Fees are paid in LUNA and are generally small. Terra Classic is a separate chain with a different token, LUNC, so the two should not be confused when you use a wallet or exchange.

Activity today is modest. DeFi TVL is about $2.8M at the time of writing. Astroport is the main DEX and holds most of that liquidity, with Terraswap as a smaller community option. Eris Protocol covers liquid staking, SOLID offers an over-collateralized stablecoin on Terra Phoenix, and Stader and Risk Harbor list Terra2 as one of several supported chains. The 12 dApps on this page are mostly small, so read each review with liquidity and risk in mind.

Frequently asked questions

What is Terra2?

Terra2 is the Terra blockchain launched after the May 2022 collapse of the original chain and its UST stablecoin. It is a new chain rather than a fork of the old one, and it does not use an algorithmic stablecoin. The original chain continues separately as Terra Classic.

What is the LUNA token used for?

The native token of Terra2 is LUNA. It is used to pay transaction fees and to stake with validators who secure the network. Terra Classic has its own separate token, LUNC, which is a different asset.

Is Terra2 an EVM chain?

No. Terra2 is built on the Cosmos SDK and uses CosmWasm smart contracts, not the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Ethereum wallets and Solidity contracts do not work natively, and you need a Cosmos-compatible wallet instead.

How much value is locked on Terra2?

Terra2 DeFi activity is small. At the time of writing, total DeFi TVL on the chain is about $2.8M. Astroport is the largest native project by TVL on our list, at about $2.7M, so liquidity is thin and prices can move sharply on modest trades.

Which dApps are on Terra2?

Astroport is the main DEX, with Terraswap as a smaller community alternative. For staking, Eris Protocol offers liquid staking, and SOLID is an over-collateralized stablecoin protocol. Stader and Risk Harbor also list Terra2 among their supported chains. Our site lists 12 dApps for this chain.

What is the difference between Terra2 and Terra Classic?

Terra Classic is the original chain that survived the 2022 crash, and its token is LUNC. Terra2 is the newer chain with LUNA, created to start fresh without UST. Some apps, such as Terraswap and Terra Luna, appear on both, so check which network you are connected to before sending funds.

Is Terra2 risky to use?

The chain has a troubled history, low TVL and several small protocols, so risk is higher than on larger networks. Smart contract bugs, thin liquidity and project abandonment are all real concerns. Only use money you can afford to lose, and check each dApp's audits and recent activity first.

What is the largest dApp on Terra2 by TVL?

Stader is the largest dApp on Terra2 by total value locked, with $186M across all the chains it supports. It is followed by Stride ($3.69M) and Astroport ($2.66M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which dApp on Terra2 has the highest DappsAtlas score?

Stader has the highest score at 7.4/10, ahead of Astroport (6.8) and Stride (6.2). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many dApps are on Terra2?

DappsAtlas tracks 12 dApps on Terra2. Of these, 12 have a full review and 11 report value locked, $197M in total, counting value on every chain they support.

What are the most common types of dApps on Terra2?

Staking (4), DEXes (3) and Centralized Exchanges (1) are the largest categories on Terra2, by number of projects.

Which dApps on Terra2 grew the most this week?

Among dApps with at least $1M locked, Stride the biggest drop (−11.1%). Combined TVL moved −3.8% over the same seven days.

What is the average score for dApps on Terra2?

The 9 rated dApps on Terra2 average 5.6 out of 10. Of these, 0 score 8 or higher and 2 score below 5.
