ActivePancakeSwap Review 2026: BNB Chain DEX With Extras
PancakeSwap is a decentralized exchange launched on BNB Smart Chain in September 2020, built around an automated market maker and extras like farming, staking, a lottery and prediction rounds. It is a mature, widely used DEX, but its open token listings carry real risk.

Excellent
Our verdict on Pancakeswap
8.0/10PancakeSwap suits users who already hold BNB Smart Chain assets and want a long-running DEX with swaps, farming and staking in one place. Its main strength is breadth and a track record dating to 2020, combined with low gas costs and self-custody. The main caveat is risk: open listings mean many scam or illiquid tokens, farming carries impermanent loss, and audit and team details need checking directly. Treat the lottery and prediction features as speculation, not income.

What is Pancakeswap?
PancakeSwap is a decentralized exchange that launched on BNB Smart Chain in September 2020. It was one of the first major projects on that network and became a popular alternative for traders priced out of Ethereum-based exchanges by high gas fees.
The core product is token swapping and liquidity provision through an automated market maker. Around that it has added yield farming, CAKE staking, Initial Farm Offerings, a lottery, NFTs, perpetual futures and a prediction feature that was extended to Bitcoin and Ethereum price rounds in September 2025.
CAKE is its native token, used for governance and incentives. One exchange data page lists a maximum supply of 400 million CAKE, with roughly 328 million circulating, and reports a governance vote on raising liquidity provider rewards and reducing daily issuance. These are single-source details and can change.
The breadth of features is the draw. The trade-off is that open, permissionless listings mean users face scam tokens and speculative products, so care is required.
How Pancakeswap works
PancakeSwap is an automated market maker. Instead of matching buyers and sellers in an order book, it holds pools of two tokens. When you swap, you trade against the pool and the price adjusts based on the new balance of the pair.
Pools are funded by liquidity providers. They deposit both tokens in a pair and receive LP tokens that represent their share. They earn a part of the trading fees and can stake those LP tokens in farms to earn extra rewards. The main risk is impermanent loss, which happens when the relative price of the two tokens changes.
CAKE ties the system together. Holders can vote on governance proposals and stake CAKE for rewards, and part of the swap fees is used to buy back and burn CAKE, according to one third-party guide. Trading happens directly from the user's wallet through smart contracts, so the platform does not hold user balances in an account.

Pros and cons
What we like
- Long operating history since September 2020 on BNB Smart Chain
- Non-custodial: you trade from your own wallet without opening an account
- Wide feature set including swaps, farming, staking, IFOs, NFTs and perpetuals
- Low gas costs on BNB Smart Chain compared with Ethereum, according to third-party guides
- CAKE gives holders governance votes and a buyback-and-burn mechanism
- Simple swap interface suited to beginners who already have a compatible wallet
Watch out for
- Many tokens listed through open pools are low-quality or scams, so users must check contracts themselves
- Impermanent loss can reduce returns for liquidity providers, even when farming rewards look high
- Audit reports, team details and incident history are not covered in the sources we reviewed, so users should check them directly
- Gamified extras such as the lottery and price predictions can encourage speculative behaviour
- Fee splits quoted by third parties may be outdated and can differ by pool type and version
- CAKE emissions and governance changes mean reward rates can shift over time
Pancakeswap fees
One beginner guide describes a 0.25% fee on each swap, split into 0.17% to liquidity providers, 0.03% to the protocol treasury and 0.05% used to buy back and burn CAKE. This is a single-source figure and may describe an older pool design, so treat it as indicative.
On top of the swap fee, users pay network gas on BNB Smart Chain, which third-party guides describe as low compared with Ethereum. Exact fees, slippage and price impact are shown in the swap interface before a trade is confirmed. Farming and staking rewards vary and are not guaranteed.
Is Pancakeswap safe?
PancakeSwap is non-custodial, so users keep their private keys and the main risks are smart-contract bugs, token scams and wallet mistakes. The sources reviewed do not detail audits, the team or any past incidents, so users should check the project's own documentation for audit reports before committing large amounts.
The biggest practical hazard is the open listing model. Anyone can create a pool for a token, and community discussion has long warned that small tokens on the platform can be extremely risky, with one widely shared forum thread advising people to treat it like a casino. Verify contract addresses, avoid unknown tokens and beware of phishing sites that imitate the interface.
The lottery and prediction rounds are gambling-style features. They are for adults only, and readers should check that such features are legal where they live. Bet only what you can afford to lose.

Who Pancakeswap is for
PancakeSwap is aimed at crypto users who already have a wallet and some BNB Smart Chain funds, and want to swap tokens, provide liquidity or stake CAKE without a centralized account. It suits intermediate users comfortable checking token contracts and managing impermanent loss. Complete beginners can use the swap page, but should start small and avoid unfamiliar tokens.
Pancakeswap FAQs
What is PancakeSwap?
PancakeSwap is a decentralized exchange that began on BNB Smart Chain in September 2020. Users swap tokens straight from their own wallets against liquidity pools rather than an order book. It also offers farming, staking, a lottery, prediction rounds and perpetual futures.
How does PancakeSwap work?
It uses an automated market maker. Liquidity providers deposit token pairs into pools and receive LP tokens representing their share. Traders swap against those pools, and the price moves with the pool balance. Because users keep their own keys, no one holds their funds on a central account.
What is the CAKE token used for?
CAKE is the platform's native token, used for governance and incentives. Holders can vote on proposals and stake CAKE to earn rewards. One exchange data page lists a maximum supply of 400 million CAKE and a circulating supply of roughly 328 million. Check current figures before relying on them.
What are the fees on PancakeSwap?
One beginner guide describes a 0.25% swap fee split into 0.17% for liquidity providers, 0.03% for the treasury and 0.05% for buying back and burning CAKE. That reflects one pool design and may be out of date. The exact fee for a trade is shown on the swap screen before you confirm, and you also pay network gas.
Is PancakeSwap safe to use?
The core protocol is non-custodial, so you keep control of your assets, but smart-contract and token risk remain. The bigger practical danger is trading obscure tokens that may be scams or lose value quickly. Verify token contracts, use small test amounts and be wary of unknown listings.
Which wallet do I need?
Third-party guides recommend a BNB Smart Chain compatible wallet such as MetaMask or Trust Wallet. Add the BNB Smart Chain network, connect on the official site, then use the Swap or Liquidity pages. Always confirm you are on the real site before signing anything.
Does PancakeSwap include gambling features?
The lottery and prediction rounds are gambling-style features, so check that they are legal where you live. They are for adults only, usually 18+. Only risk money you can afford to lose and use any limits or breaks available to you.
