Thorchain is a standalone Layer 1 blockchain built around one job: letting people swap native assets between chains. It is built with the Cosmos SDK and uses Tendermint-style consensus. It is not EVM-based. Independent nodes watch other networks such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB Chain and manage vaults on them. A swap moves the real asset in and the real asset out, with no wrapped token or traditional bridge in between.
The native token is RUNE. It is paired with assets in liquidity pools, so it acts as the common settlement asset for every swap, and nodes bond it to help secure the network. Users pay swap fees and network fees that vary with pool depth and activity. Thorchain's own DeFi TVL was about $33.3M at the time of writing, which is modest next to the major smart contract chains.
On our site, Thorchain has 6 dApps listed. THORChain DEX is the core native-asset swap app, aimed at self-custody and no-KYC users. Maya Protocol is a THORChain fork that supports additional chains such as Zcash. The rest of the list is made up of centralized exchanges, Bitget, Gate and Gate US, which show much larger TVL figures because they hold reserves across many networks. Some of these platforms offer derivatives and other high-risk products, and any gambling-style activity requires being 18+ (21+ where required) and confirming that it is legal where you live.

Frequently asked questions
What is Thorchain?
THORChain is a Layer 1 blockchain built for swapping native assets across different chains, for example Bitcoin to Ethereum, without wrapped tokens. Users send funds to vaults managed by the network's nodes and receive the other asset directly. It is built with the Cosmos SDK, and RUNE is its native token.
What is RUNE used for?
RUNE is the native token of Thorchain. It is used as the settlement asset in liquidity pools, for securing the network through node bonding, and for paying fees on the chain. Its price changes constantly, so check a live market source before making decisions.
Is Thorchain EVM compatible?
No. Thorchain is a standalone Layer 1 built on the Cosmos SDK, not an EVM chain. It connects to EVM networks such as Ethereum and BNB Chain by watching them and managing vaults there, rather than by running Ethereum smart contracts.
Do all dApps listed here work the same way?
Not necessarily. Thorchain DEX and Maya Protocol are the native swap venues, and they are aimed at self-custody and no-KYC users. Bitget, Gate and Gate US are centralized exchanges that are listed because they are tied to Thorchain in our data, and they follow their own identity-check rules.
How much value is on Thorchain?
Thorchain's own DeFi TVL was about $33.3M at the time of writing. The larger TVL numbers shown for Bitget and Gate reflect exchange reserves across many chains, not value locked on Thorchain itself. Both figures change daily.
What should I watch out for when swapping on Thorchain?
Cross-chain swaps involve smart contract, liquidity and pricing risks, and fees can vary with network conditions. Send a small test amount first and double-check addresses, because transactions on-chain cannot be reversed. Centralized exchanges also carry custody risk and may offer derivatives that can lead to large losses. Check the rules where you live before using them.
What is the largest dApp on THORChain by TVL?
Bitget is the largest dApp on THORChain by total value locked, with $5.93B across all the chains it supports. It is followed by Gate ($5.91B) and THORChain DEX ($61.3M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.
Which dApp on THORChain has the highest DappsAtlas score?
Gate has the highest score at 7.7/10, ahead of THORChain DEX (7.7) and Bitget (7.6). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.
How many dApps are on THORChain?
DappsAtlas tracks 7 dApps on THORChain. Of these, 7 have a full review and 6 report value locked, $12.0B in total, counting value on every chain they support.
What are the most common types of dApps on THORChain?
Centralized Exchanges (3), DEXes (1) and Cross Chain Bridge (1) are the largest categories on THORChain, by number of projects.
Which dApps on THORChain grew the most this week?
Among dApps with at least $1M locked, Maya Protocol had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+2.3%) and THORChain DEX the biggest drop (−5.3%). Combined TVL moved −0.6% over the same seven days.
What is the average score for dApps on THORChain?
The 6 rated dApps on THORChain average 7.0 out of 10. Of these, 0 score 8 or higher and 0 score below 5.
