Ethereum Classic is a smart contract blockchain that continued as the original Ethereum chain after the community split in 2016. It uses proof-of-work mining and stays compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so developers can write Solidity contracts and issue ERC20-style tokens. Its design is conservative: it scales on the base layer, and its community puts predictability and immutability ahead of rapid feature changes.
The native token is ETC, which pays transaction fees and rewards miners. Its supply is capped at roughly 210.7 million coins, in the same spirit as Bitcoin's fixed supply. Fees are paid in ETC, and the chain is generally not known for congestion, since there is little on-chain demand.
The dApp ecosystem here is small. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL is about $105,000, and our listing has 12 dApps. Native projects include HebeSwap, an automated market maker for swapping tokens, and Nyke Finance, a lending market, both with very little liquidity. Most of what you will find on this page are centralized exchanges that support ETC, such as OKX, Gate, Poloniex, Gate US, NonKYC and Latoken, along with Tornado Cash, a privacy protocol that has faced US sanctions. Exmo says it is closing. Their TVL figures reflect activity across many chains, not only Ethereum Classic.

Can Ethereum Classic Support dApps? A 2026 ExplainerEthereum Classic can run Solidity smart contracts, so it can host dapps, but its smaller user base, thinner tooling and proof-of-work security trade-offs shape what a builder should expect. Frequently asked questions
What is Ethereum Classic?
Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum chain that carried on after the network split in 2016, and it holds to a "code is law" view of smart contracts. It runs smart contracts and dApps and uses ETC as its native token. It is a separate network from Ethereum, with its own history and community.
Is Ethereum Classic EVM compatible?
Ethereum Classic supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so Solidity contracts and ERC20-style tokens can run on it. That is why EVM-style apps such as HebeSwap and Nyke Finance can exist there. Check each app's network settings before connecting a wallet.
How is Ethereum Classic different from Ethereum?
The two chains share early history, but they diverged after the split and are now separate networks with separate tokens. Ethereum Classic is still a proof-of-work chain, and its ETC supply has a fixed cap of roughly 210.7 million coins. Ethereum has moved to proof-of-stake and has a far larger app ecosystem.
How big is DeFi on Ethereum Classic?
DeFi activity is very small. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on the chain is about $105,000. The native apps we list, a DEX (HebeSwap) and a lending market (Nyke Finance), have little liquidity, so expect thin markets and higher slippage.
Where can I buy ETC?
Most people buy ETC on a centralized exchange. Several exchanges on our list, including OKX, Gate, Poloniex and Gate US, are multi-chain platforms. Check that ETC is listed and available in your country before you sign up. Exmo says it is closing and has asked users to withdraw their funds.
Why do big exchanges appear on an Ethereum Classic page?
The TVL figures for exchanges such as OKX and Gate cover many chains, not only Ethereum Classic, so they say little about activity on this network. Only a few listed apps, such as HebeSwap and Nyke Finance, run mainly on Ethereum Classic. Read each listing to see how it actually uses the chain.
What is the largest dApp on Ethereum Classic by TVL?
Which dApp on Ethereum Classic has the highest DappsAtlas score?
How many dApps are on Ethereum Classic?
DappsAtlas tracks 14 dApps on Ethereum Classic. Of these, 14 have a full review and 11 report value locked, $36.1B in total, counting value on every chain they support.
What are the most common types of dApps on Ethereum Classic?
Centralized Exchanges (7), DEXes (2) and Gamified Mining (1) are the largest categories on Ethereum Classic, by number of projects.
Which dApps on Ethereum Classic grew the most this week?
Among dApps with at least $1M locked, Tornado Cash had the biggest 7-day TVL gain (+1.1%) and Poloniex the biggest drop (−2.7%). Combined TVL moved −0.4% over the same seven days.
What is the average score for dApps on Ethereum Classic?
The 11 rated dApps on Ethereum Classic average 6.3 out of 10. Of these, 1 score 8 or higher and 1 score below 5.
