What Lighter (LIT) is
Lighter is a decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, built as a zk-rollup on Ethereum. Perpetual futures let traders take long or short positions on assets such as BTC, ETH and SOL with leverage, and no expiry date. Lighter's pitch is that its order matching and liquidations can be verified with cryptographic proofs rather than taken on trust, while performance stays close to that of a traditional exchange.
LIT is the platform's native token. It sits alongside the trading product rather than being the thing you trade with day to day. Lighter has been described as running a zero-fee model for retail users, so LIT is generally framed as an infrastructure and ecosystem token, not as a fee-payment coin.
At the time of writing, LIT ranks around 82nd by market capitalization. It is categorized as a DeFi token and a DEX token, and it also falls under derivatives and perpetuals. Be careful with name confusion: another project, Litentry, also uses a ticker that looks similar in some listings, and it is unrelated to Lighter.
What the token is used for
Public information on LIT's utility is limited and mostly high level. Project materials and third-party summaries describe it as a token used to coordinate activity across the Lighter ecosystem. Other write-ups call it a utility and infrastructure token that supports the platform instead of acting as the currency for trading fees.
Beyond that, the project does not spell out a detailed list of on-chain functions, so this page does not guess at them. Common roles for exchange tokens include governance, staking or fee-related benefits, but none of those should be assumed for LIT without checking Lighter's own documentation and current announcements.
If you are evaluating the token, the practical questions are what holding it actually gives you, whether those rights are enforceable on-chain, and whether they could change over time. Features can be added, altered or removed as a project develops, so any description of utility is a snapshot rather than a promise. Read the official documentation for the current position before relying on any claimed benefit.
Supply and tokenomics
LIT has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. About 981.9 million exist in total, and roughly 250 million are circulating, which is about a quarter of the cap. These figures are from the data as of 2026-11-05.
That gap matters. At roughly $3.34 per token as of 2026-11-05, the circulating market capitalization was about $836 million, while the fully diluted valuation, which assumes all 1 billion tokens at the same price, was about $3.28 billion. A large share of supply is not yet in circulation, so future unlocks or releases could add selling pressure compared with today's float, depending on the schedule.
The data available here does not include a breakdown of allocations between team, investors, community and treasury, nor a full vesting schedule. Do not infer one. If tokenomics matter to your decision, look for the official allocation and unlock details published by the project and check how they compare with what is currently on-chain.
Chains, holding and trading
LIT is issued on Ethereum and on Robinhood Chain. Lighter itself runs as a zk-rollup that settles to Ethereum, but the LIT token is a separate asset from the exchange's internal trading accounts. LIT is not the native gas token of any chain.
Because it exists on Ethereum, LIT can be held in any wallet that supports Ethereum-compatible tokens. Trading generally happens on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges. Before the token launched, it also traded in pre-market and points-based arrangements, which carry their own counterparty and settlement risks.
At the time of writing, 24-hour trading volume was about $94 million, which suggests an actively traded asset. Liquidity can still vary a lot between venues and between chains. When moving LIT between Ethereum and Robinhood Chain, confirm which bridge or route is supported and check the contract address from official sources, since copycat tokens with the same name are common.
History and notable events
Lighter's token generation event took place in late December 2025, when about 250 million LIT were moved to a new address ahead of distribution. Reports at the time described a roughly $675 million airdrop to users, which was ranked as the tenth largest crypto airdrop and slightly above the 1inch Network distribution. Those airdrop figures come from press coverage and reflect values at the time of distribution.
LIT reached an all-time high of about $7.86 on 2025-12-30, soon after launch. It later fell to an all-time low of about $0.78 on 2026-03-31, a drop of roughly 90% from the peak. As of 2026-11-05 it traded near $3.34, and had risen about 14.6% over the previous seven days. There is no one-year change figure because the token has not existed for a full year.
These swings show how volatile a young token can be. Past moves say nothing about what happens next, and this page offers no price forecast.
Risks to understand
Market risk. LIT has already fallen sharply from its peak and could do so again. Newly launched tokens often see large swings as airdrop recipients sell and as supply unlocks.
Dilution risk. With only about a quarter of the maximum supply circulating, further releases could weigh on the price. The fully diluted value is nearly four times the current market cap.
Product risk. Lighter is a leveraged derivatives venue. Smart contract bugs, proof-system flaws, oracle problems, sequencer outages or liquidation failures could hurt users, and the token's value is tied to the platform's success. Leveraged trading can lose money quickly.
Regulatory risk. Derivatives platforms face evolving rules in many countries, and access may be restricted by location or by age. Check what is permitted where you live and follow the platform's eligibility rules. Do not try to get around them.
Clarity risk. The exact utility of LIT is only loosely described in public sources, so expectations may not match reality. Also beware of confusion with similarly named tokens and fake airdrop sites.
How to store LIT safely
If you hold LIT, a self-custody wallet gives you control of the keys. A hardware wallet paired with an Ethereum-compatible interface is a common choice for larger amounts, since the private keys stay offline. Write down the recovery phrase on paper or metal, store it away from the device, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.
Verify the token contract address using the project's official channels before adding it to a wallet or approving anything. Scammers often create lookalike tokens and fake claim pages, especially after a high-profile airdrop. Be cautious with token approvals: only grant what a transaction needs, and review and revoke old approvals periodically.
For small, active balances, a separate hot wallet limits the damage if something goes wrong. Keeping tokens on an exchange is convenient, but you rely on that company's security and solvency. Test with a small transfer first when moving between Ethereum and Robinhood Chain, and double-check the network selected.
By the numbers
Lighter in numbers
Lighter (LIT) is ranked #80 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $837M and a price of $3.35 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $3.29B, so roughly 25% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was up 16.4% over 7 days, down 10.3% over 30 days. It trades about 57% below its all-time high of $7.86, set on Dec 30, 2025.
About 250M LIT are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (25% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $130M, or 16% of its market cap: high turnover.
LIT has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, Robinhood Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

LIT FAQs
What is Lighter (LIT)?
LIT is the native token of Lighter, a decentralized perpetual futures exchange built as a zk-rollup on Ethereum. Public sources describe it as a coordination and infrastructure token for the ecosystem. Detailed on-chain utility is not fully spelled out, so check the official documentation.
What is the supply of LIT?
