What Jupiter and the JUP token are

Jupiter is a decentralized exchange aggregator built on Solana. Instead of holding its own pool of liquidity, it checks the major liquidity sources on the network and routes a swap through whichever path gives the user the best price. Over time the platform has grown beyond swaps to include limit orders, dollar-cost averaging, a bridge for moving assets onto Solana, perpetual futures trading and a lending product, Jupiter Lend, which offers yield vaults and leveraged loops.

JUP is the platform's native token. It is not the coin of a separate blockchain: it is issued as a token on Solana, and the data also lists an issuance on Unichain. At the time of writing it ranked around 80th by market capitalization, so it is a mid-sized asset in the wider market, though a large one within the Solana ecosystem.

It helps to separate the product from the token. Most people who use Jupiter to swap never need to hold JUP. The token sits on top of the platform as a governance and community instrument, not as a fee you must pay to trade.

What JUP is used for

The clearest and most consistently described use of JUP is governance. Holders can take part in votes on protocol changes, launchpad decisions, grants and similar questions that shape the Jupiter ecosystem. This kind of voting generally works through staking or locking tokens so that a holder's voice is tied to a commitment.

Some third-party pages also describe JUP as a way to reward active users and liquidity providers, and mention staking or loyalty-style rewards. Descriptions vary between sources, and programs of this kind can change or end, so anyone interested should read the current rules in the official Jupiter app and community channels instead of relying on summaries.

The token also appears in categories tied to the platform's other businesses, including DEX, exchange-based, launchpad and perpetuals groupings. That reflects the breadth of Jupiter's products, not a guarantee that holding JUP gives a fee share or any financial entitlement. Treat it primarily as a governance token unless official documentation says otherwise.

Supply and tokenomics

JUP has a maximum supply of 10 billion tokens. As of 2026-11-05, about 3.32 billion were circulating and about 6.86 billion existed in total, meaning a large share of the eventual supply was not yet in public circulation. The total figure is not the same as the maximum, so the data suggests further tokens are still to be created or released under the project's plan.

This gap shows up in valuation. The market cap, based on circulating supply, was about $850.4 million, while the fully diluted valuation, which assumes the maximum supply, was about $1.76 billion. Fully diluted values are a rough guide only, but the difference signals that future unlocks or distributions could add to the tradable supply.

The data given here does not describe the exact allocation between team, community, liquidity and other groups, nor the unlock schedule. Readers who care about tokenomics should check the project's official documentation and on-chain data for the current breakdown, since these details can be revised by governance votes.

Chains, trading and how it is held

JUP lives mainly on Solana, and the data also records an issuance on Unichain. Holding it on Solana means using a Solana-compatible wallet and keeping a small amount of SOL to pay network fees when moving tokens. Unichain is a separate network, so a JUP balance there is distinct from a balance on Solana, and tokens must be bridged properly to move between them.

In general terms, JUP can be traded on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges. Unsurprisingly, it can be swapped inside Jupiter itself. As of 2026-11-05, 24-hour trading volume was about $51.0 million, which is modest relative to the market cap but enough for normal-sized trades on major venues. Liquidity can be thinner on smaller pairs or on newer chains.

When trading on-chain, confirm the token's official contract address from Jupiter's own channels, because copycat tokens with the same name or ticker appear regularly on Solana. Always check the address before approving a swap.

History and price record

Jupiter launched its token in early 2024, and the all-time high in the data, about $2, was set on 2024-01-31. Since then the price has fallen a long way. As of 2026-11-05 JUP traded at about $0.256, down roughly 4.1% over seven days and about 23.7% over a year. The all-time low in the data, about $0.136, was recorded on 2026-02-12.

The price path is typical of many governance tokens that debuted with strong early demand and then met a long period of token releases and shifting market conditions. Past performance says little about the future, and nothing here is a prediction or advice to buy or sell.

On the product side, Jupiter has been described by some sources as Solana's biggest DeFi platform, expanding from swaps to perpetuals, lending and staking. The data does not list specific governance disputes or security incidents, so none are covered here. Readers can follow official announcements and governance forums for the latest developments.

Risks to understand

Several risks apply. Price volatility is the obvious one: the token has lost much of its value from its peak and can move sharply. Supply risk is another, since a large portion of the maximum supply was not yet circulating as of 2026-11-05, and later releases could weigh on the market.

There is also dependence on Solana. Network outages, congestion or a decline in Solana activity could affect Jupiter's usage. Smart contract risk applies to every product in the suite, particularly leveraged and perpetual products, where users can lose more than they expect in fast markets. Governance risk matters too, because token-weighted votes can favor large holders.

Finally, scams are common around popular tokens: fake airdrop sites, impersonation accounts and lookalike tokens. Perpetual futures and leveraged products carry high risk, and the legal status of these products varies by country, so check what is permitted where you live and meet any age requirements.

How to store JUP safely

For a meaningful balance, a hardware wallet that supports Solana is generally safer than leaving tokens on an exchange or a browser wallet connected to many sites. Write the recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff.

Use a separate wallet for experimenting with new apps and keep long-term holdings in a wallet that rarely signs transactions. Before connecting to any site, check the address carefully, since phishing copies of Jupiter's interface exist. Review and revoke token approvals you no longer need, and be wary of unsolicited tokens that appear in your wallet, which are often bait.

If you stake or lock JUP for governance, understand any lock period or unlock delay in advance, because you may not be able to withdraw immediately. Keep a small amount of SOL for fees, and send a small test transaction first when moving a large amount.

By the numbers
