What Meteora (MET) is
Meteora (MET) is the token tied to Meteora, a decentralized exchange and liquidity protocol on Solana. The protocol is built around providing liquidity to trading pools. Its best-known product, listed on our site as Meteora DLMM, is a bin-based concentrated liquidity DEX with dynamic fees, aimed at liquidity providers who want precise control over the price range where their capital is active.
MET sits on top of that infrastructure. Public descriptions of the token call it the governance and utility token of the Meteora ecosystem. It is not the native coin of its own blockchain. MET is issued on Solana, and the network's own coin, SOL, is what pays transaction fees.
Our categories place MET among DeFi, DEX, exchange and launchpad tokens, which reflects Meteora's mix of trading pools, liquidity tools and token launch features. The token launch itself became public in October 2025, when the project announced a token generation event with an airdrop to eligible users.
What MET is used for
Public sources describe several roles for MET, though the details can change as the project develops, so check the current documentation before relying on any of them.
- Governance: MET is described as a governance token, meaning holders may have a say in decisions about the protocol.
- Liquidity incentives: The token supports incentive programs that encourage people to deposit assets into Meteora pools.
- Staking for perks: Some sources mention staking MET to receive benefits within the ecosystem.
- Pairing asset: MET can be used as one side of a trading pool, giving liquidity providers a way to pair it with other tokens.
At the launch, recipients of the airdrop could either hold their MET unlocked or provide liquidity in Meteora pools to earn trading fees. That choice shows how closely the token is tied to the protocol's liquidity business. Beyond these points, we have not seen a complete, verified list of utilities, so treat third-party summaries cautiously.
Supply and tokenomics
The maximum supply of MET is 1 billion tokens. As of 2026-11-05, the total supply was about 997.7 million, and about 564.9 million were circulating. That is roughly 57% of the maximum in circulation.
The gap between market cap and fully diluted valuation reflects the tokens not yet circulating. At the time of writing, the market cap was about $161.7 million and the fully diluted valuation about $285.6 million, with MET ranked around 193rd by market cap.
The project's tokenomics documentation says a portion of tokens was set aside for the launch airdrop, and that 45% of the total supply is held for the Mercurial Reserve. Mercurial is the earlier project from which Meteora grew. We have not verified a full allocation breakdown or unlock schedule here, so read the official documentation for vesting terms, because scheduled unlocks can affect how much supply reaches the market over time.
Chains and how MET is held and traded
MET is issued on Solana, and that is the only chain listed in our data. It can be held in Solana-compatible wallets that support SPL tokens, and the wallet needs a small amount of SOL to pay network fees.
Trading happens mainly on decentralized exchanges on Solana, where MET can be swapped against other tokens, and on centralized exchanges that list it. Trading activity was about $14.9 million over 24 hours as of 2026-11-05, which gives a sense of liquidity but changes daily. CoinGecko tags MET with a Binance Alpha Spotlight label, which points to some exchange-ecosystem exposure, although listing details vary and should be confirmed on each platform.
If you use a DEX, always confirm the token's mint address from an official source. Fake tokens with copied names and symbols are common on Solana, and a matching ticker is not proof that a token is genuine.
History and notable events
Meteora announced its token launch in October 2025, and MET reached its all-time high price of about $0.687 on 2025-10-23, right around that launch period. Since then the price has fallen substantially. The all-time low in our data is about $0.094, recorded on 2026-06-06.
As of 2026-11-05, MET traded at about $0.286. It was down roughly 1.5% over seven days and about 12% over one year. Those are descriptive figures, not a forecast.
The airdrop was designed so recipients could hold tokens or contribute liquidity to pools, which tied early distribution to protocol activity. Our data does not give an exact launch date field, so we rely on the public announcements from October 2025 for the timeline. For anything beyond that, such as team changes or later protocol updates, consult the project's official channels.
Risks to understand
MET carries the usual risks of a DeFi token, plus a few specific ones.
- Price volatility: The gap between the all-time high and low shows how widely the price has moved.
- Supply overhang: With a large share of the maximum supply not yet circulating, future unlocks could add selling pressure.
- Smart contract risk: Meteora's pools run on code. Bugs or exploits could affect funds deposited by liquidity providers.
- Impermanent loss: Providing liquidity, especially in concentrated ranges, can leave you with less value than simply holding the assets.
- Fake tokens and phishing: Scam tokens and fake airdrop sites are common around popular Solana projects.
- Governance and utility uncertainty: The roles of the token may change, and governance power can be concentrated among large holders.
Nothing here is financial advice. Only commit money you can afford to lose, and read the official documentation before using any protocol.
How to store MET safely
For long-term holding, a hardware wallet that supports Solana is generally safer than leaving tokens on an exchange or in a browser wallet. Keep your recovery phrase offline, never type it into a website, and never share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff.
Before interacting with Meteora or any airdrop claim, check that you are on the correct site by using bookmarks you created from a trusted source. Review each transaction prompt in your wallet, and be cautious about approvals that grant broad access to your tokens.
If you provide liquidity, consider using a separate wallet with limited funds, so a mistake or malicious contract cannot reach your main holdings. Verify the MET mint address before every swap, and keep a little SOL available for fees so you can always move or withdraw your assets.
By the numbers
Meteora in numbers
Meteora (MET) is ranked #195 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $155M and a price of $0.2737 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $273M, so roughly 57% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 2.3% over 7 days, down 12.9% over 30 days, down 22.6% over the past year. It trades about 60% below its all-time high of $0.6869, set on Oct 23, 2025.
About 564.94M MET are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (56% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $8.45M, or 5.5% of its market cap: moderate turnover.
MET has token contracts on Solana. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
MET is linked to Meteora, which we cover in our DEXes rankings. See our Meteora page for how the protocol works and how we score it.
