What Aster is

Aster is a decentralized exchange built mainly for perpetual futures, which are derivatives that let traders take leveraged long or short positions on an asset without an expiry date. ASTER is the platform's token. At the time of writing it ranked around 54th by market capitalization.

The project's own description says it came from the merger of Astherus and APX Finance in late 2024, and APX holders could migrate their holdings into ASTER. The platform lists crypto perpetuals as well as perpetuals tied to U.S. stocks, all settled on-chain in crypto. It pitches itself as a middle path between centralized exchanges and typical on-chain trading: users keep custody of their assets while getting tools usually associated with centralized venues.

There are two trading modes. Simple Mode is a one-click interface that the project describes as resistant to MEV, with leverage advertised up to 1001x. Pro Mode offers a full order book, grid trading and hidden orders that stay invisible until they execute. Another feature is that users can post yield-bearing assets such as asBNB or USDF as collateral, so the collateral can keep earning while it backs a position. USDF is the yield-bearing stablecoin from the same ecosystem, backed by delta-neutral positions.

What the ASTER token is used for

Public sources describe ASTER as having several roles. The most commonly cited are governance, reduced trading fees on both spot and perpetual markets for holders and users of the token, and staking, which is tied to network security and to how new tokens are emitted.

The project's description text is cut off at the point where it lists the token's functions, so this page does not claim a complete list. If you are weighing the token, check the project's current documentation for the exact fee tiers, staking terms and governance process, because these can change.

It helps to separate what the token does from what the exchange does. You do not need ASTER to understand how the exchange works, and holding it does not make trading on the platform safer. The utility case rests on discounts, staking participation and a say in governance, not on any guaranteed return. Anyone using the exchange's leveraged products should understand that leverage magnifies losses as well as gains, and that positions can be liquidated quickly.

Supply and tokenomics

The data lists a maximum supply of 8 billion ASTER. About 7.79 billion tokens were in total supply and roughly 2.57 billion were circulating as of 2026-11-05. That means only about a third of the maximum was circulating, and later unlocks could add substantial supply to the market.

The gap shows up in valuation. At about $0.70 per token, the market capitalization was roughly $1.81 billion, while the fully diluted valuation, which assumes every token is in circulation, was about $5.47 billion. Daily trading volume was around $90 million. These figures move constantly and are given only as approximate values for that date.

It was reported that Aster ended its fixed monthly unlock schedule and replaced it with an emission model tied to staking, cutting scheduled monthly unlocks sharply. Treat that as a reported change in policy and read the project's current tokenomics documents for the exact schedule, allocation and any later amendments. Allocations to the team, investors, community and ecosystem matter because they determine who may sell and when.

Chains and how it is held and traded

According to the data, ASTER is issued on BNB Chain, and it is not the native coin of any blockchain. The exchange itself operates across BNB Chain, Ethereum, Solana and Arbitrum, and the project says users can trade across them without bridging. Public reporting also mention an Aster Chain, which the project has described as part of its roadmap. Check the official documentation for its current status.

ASTER is classed as a DeFi, DEX and exchange-linked token, and it trades on a range of centralized and decentralized venues. The easiest way to find the correct token is through the official channels, since lookalike tokens and similar names exist. One search result, for example, concerns Astar, a different project with the ticker ASTR.

If you hold ASTER on BNB Chain, you need a wallet that supports that network and a small balance of BNB to pay transaction fees. Whenever you move tokens, confirm the contract address against the project's official sources before you sign. Liquidity and spreads vary by venue, so check the depth of a market before placing a large order.

History and notable events

The token's trading history has been volatile. The data shows an all-time low of about $0.0997 on 2025-09-17 and an all-time high of about $2.41 on 2025-09-24, only a week apart. As of 2026-11-05 the price was down roughly 29% over one year and had moved by about 1% over seven days.

On the backing side, the project says YZi Labs, formerly Binance Labs, holds a minority stake. It also says Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, serves in an advisory role and has personally invested more than $2.5 million in ASTER. These are statements from the project's own description, so treat them as claims to verify instead of as endorsements.

The merger of Astherus and APX Finance in late 2024 and the later reported change to the token unlock schedule are the main structural events. The exact dates of the token's launch are not listed in the data, so this page does not give one.

Risks

Leverage is the first risk. Advertised leverage of up to 1001x means a very small price move can wipe out a position, and most traders using extreme leverage lose money. Derivatives may also be restricted or prohibited in some places, so check the rules where you live and the age requirements of the platform before using it. Nothing here is advice to trade.

Token risks include the large gap between circulating supply and maximum supply, which can mean future selling pressure. Concentrated holdings and the influence of large backers can also affect governance outcomes and the price. The price has swung a lot since its launch, and the one-year change was negative.

Platform risks apply to any on-chain exchange: smart contract bugs, oracle problems, liquidation cascades, and the risk of the yield-bearing collateral losing value. USDF relies on delta-neutral positions, and those can fail under stress. Cross-chain operation adds complexity. The project's claims about hidden orders and MEV resistance are marketing statements that deserve independent scrutiny. This is not financial advice, and you can lose everything you put in.

How to store ASTER safely

Holding ASTER yourself, not leaving it on an exchange, gives you control of the keys. A hardware wallet is generally the safest option for a meaningful amount, and it can be paired with a software wallet interface that supports BNB Chain. Write down the recovery phrase on paper, keep it offline, and never type it into a website, chat or support form. No legitimate team will ask for it.

Before you approve any transaction, verify the token contract address from the project's official channels, and be careful with links sent through social media or direct messages, since fake airdrop and migration sites are common. Review token approvals from time to time and revoke any you no longer need.

If you use the exchange's trading features, remember that collateral deposited there is exposed to the platform's smart contract risk, in addition to market risk. Consider keeping long-term holdings in a separate wallet from the one you use for active trading, and only deposit what you could afford to lose. Test with a small transfer first when moving funds to a new address.

By the numbers

Aster in numbers

Aster (ASTER) is ranked #54 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $1.75B and a price of $0.6816 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $5.31B, so roughly 33% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 1.0% over 7 days, down 4.7% over 30 days, down 37.3% over the past year. It trades about 72% below its all-time high of $2.41, set on Sep 24, 2025.

About 2.57B ASTER are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 8B (32% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $119M, or 6.8% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

ASTER has token contracts on BNB Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
