Our verdict on Aster

6.0/10

Aster suits traders already comfortable with leveraged perpetuals on decentralized exchanges and token holders who follow tokenomics closely. Its main strength is a transparent, capped supply with staking-only emissions and a fee-funded buyback. The main caveat is that trading fees, audits and team details are not published in the material reviewed, and both the token and leveraged positions carry high risk. Verify those details before depositing.

What is Aster?

Aster is a decentralized exchange built around perpetual futures, with spot trading also described. One source says it launched in 2024 and drew wider attention once the ASTER token went live in September 2025, when holders of the earlier APX token migrated to it.

The token design is the best-documented part. Supply is capped at 8 billion, with more than 80% set aside for the community at launch. The airdrop holds 53.5%, the ecosystem and community fund 30%, the Aster Foundation 7% and the developer team 5%. On the token generation event, 704 million tokens were distributed through the airdrop.

More recently Aster dropped its fixed monthly unlocks in favour of staking-only emissions, citing community feedback about dilution. Combined with a fee buyback, the project argues this could turn ASTER deflationary. Details such as audits, team and fee tiers are not published in the material reviewed.

How Aster works

A perpetual futures contract lets you bet on an asset's price without owning it and without an expiry date. On a decentralized perpetuals exchange, trades are settled through smart contracts and your wallet, rather than an account held by a company. Traders can use leverage, which magnifies both gains and losses.

Aster is described as a multi-chain exchange for private perpetual and spot trading. Its ASTER token is capped at 8 billion units. Staking pays rewards in ASTER from a weekly emission, and a loyalty tier scales rewards by lock duration and trading activity.

Fees generated on the platform feed a buyback program. Up to 80% of daily fees go to buying ASTER. The project says lower emissions plus buybacks could make the token deflationary, which depends on trading volume and market conditions.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Clear, capped token supply of 8 billion with a published allocation split
  • Dilution cut by moving to staking-only emissions, which one report says lowers new monthly issuance by 97%
  • Up to 80% of daily platform fees go to ASTER buybacks, tying the token to platform activity
  • Community-heavy distribution, with more than 80% of supply reserved for the community at launch
  • Staking tiers reward long lock periods and active trading

Watch out for

  • Trading fees, funding rates and leverage limits are not stated
  • No audit reports, team details or incident history are given, so security cannot be judged from public sources
  • The ASTER token is volatile and one source reports it is about 71% below its all-time high
  • Perpetuals trading uses leverage and can lead to fast liquidations
  • The emission and buyback model is set by the project and can change by governance or announcement
  • The project's own site could not be checked, so product details rely on third-party descriptions

Aster fees

Aster's trading fees, funding rates and withdrawal costs are not stated in the material reviewed. Users would see the current schedule in the trading interface and the project's documentation.

What is known is where fees go: the buyback program sends up to 80% of daily platform fees to buying ASTER. Staking rewards are paid in ASTER, so holders also take on token price risk.

Is Aster safe?

The material reviewed does not mention smart-contract audits, bug bounties, insurance funds or past incidents, so users should look for these in the project's documentation before depositing. As a decentralized exchange, funds sit in smart contracts or your own wallet, which removes exchange custody risk but adds contract and oracle risk.

ASTER is volatile. One source reports it trades about 71% below its all-time high and labels it high-risk. Perpetuals trading adds liquidation risk. Regulatory status is not stated, so check whether derivatives trading is allowed where you live. This is not financial advice.

6 steps

How to get started with Aster

  1. 1

Find Aster through its official channels and confirm the address carefully, since fake sites copy popular exchanges.

  2. 2

Check that perpetuals trading is allowed where you live before connecting a wallet.

  3. 3

Connect a compatible wallet and fund it with a supported asset on a supported network.

  4. 4

Read the fee schedule, leverage limits and liquidation rules shown in the interface.

  5. 5

Start with a small position and low leverage, and set your own risk limits.

  6. 6

If you want to stake ASTER, review the lock periods and reward tiers first.

Who Aster is for

Aster fits experienced crypto traders who want perpetual futures from a wallet instead of a centralized exchange account, and ASTER holders interested in staking. It is a poor fit for beginners, since leverage can wipe out a position quickly and key risk information is not published in the reviewed material.

Aster FAQs

What is Aster?

Aster is a decentralized exchange focused on perpetual futures, with spot trading also described. It is presented as multi-chain and privacy-oriented. It has its own token, ASTER, used for staking and governance-style incentives.

How many ASTER tokens exist and who holds them?

The ASTER supply is capped at 8 billion. At launch more than 80% was reserved for the community, including 53.5% for the airdrop and 30% for the ecosystem and community fund. The team allocation is 5% and the Aster Foundation holds 7%, locked until governance approves its use.

What changed in Aster's token emissions?

The project announced it is ending its fixed monthly unlock schedule. Ecosystem tokens now enter circulation only as staking rewards, at 450,000 ASTER per weekly epoch. One report says this cuts new monthly issuance by 97% from the earlier 78.4 million tokens.

Does Aster buy back its token?

A buyback program introduced in December directs up to 80% of daily platform fees to buying ASTER. Aster says that, together with lower emissions, this could make the token deflationary over time. That is a project claim, not a guarantee.

How does Aster staking work?

Reports describe a base tier of 150,000 ASTER annually and a loyalty tier of 300,000 ASTER. Loyalty payouts scale with how long tokens are locked and how actively the staker trades. Check the current terms in the app before staking.

Which blockchain does Aster use?

The material reviewed describes it as a BNB Chain token and a multi-chain exchange. It does not list every supported network, so check the app for the current list.

Is Aster safe to trade on?

Perpetuals use leverage and positions can be liquidated quickly. The token is also volatile. Read the fee schedule and risk disclosures, check that derivatives trading is allowed where you live, and only risk money you can afford to lose.
