What crvUSD is

crvUSD is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Curve Finance, the decentralized exchange known for stablecoin and pegged-asset trading. It is a collateralized-debt-position (CDP) stablecoin. That means it is not backed by a bank balance. Instead, borrowers lock crypto in Curve's smart contracts and mint crvUSD against it, taking on a debt that must be repaid to get the collateral back.

The system is governed by the Curve DAO, so holders of the CRV governance token vote on parameters such as which collateral types are accepted. The design aims to keep one crvUSD close to one US dollar, and at the time of writing it traded at about $0.9993.

The most distinctive part of the design is a liquidation mechanism called LLAMMA. Rather than selling collateral all at once when it falls below a threshold, it converts collateral gradually into crvUSD as prices drop, and converts it back if prices recover. This is meant to soften the sudden liquidations common in older CDP designs.

What the token is used for

The core use is borrowing. A user deposits an accepted crypto asset, takes out a loan in crvUSD, and keeps exposure to the deposited asset while holding dollar-denominated liquidity. Some people use the borrowed crvUSD to trade, to farm yield elsewhere, or simply to avoid selling their holdings.

crvUSD is also used as a trading asset inside Curve pools, where it is paired with other stablecoins and tokens. Its deep integration with Curve's own liquidity makes it a common settlement leg for stable swaps.

Curve also offers a savings option, often referred to as scrvUSD, where holders deposit crvUSD and earn a yield funded by interest paid by borrowers. The rate depends on protocol activity and can change, so no figure should be assumed. Beyond these uses, the public information on the token is fairly narrow, and it works mainly as a dollar-denominated unit inside DeFi rather than as a payment coin for everyday shopping.

Supply and tokenomics

Supply is not fixed. New crvUSD is created whenever someone borrows and is destroyed when loans are repaid or liquidated, so the amount in circulation rises and falls with borrowing demand. The data shows no maximum supply.

As of 2026-11-05, circulating and total supply were both about 155.8 million tokens, which puts the market cap and fully diluted value at roughly $155.7 million. Trading volume over 24 hours was about $17.6 million, and the token ranked around 200 by market cap.

There is no team allocation, presale or emissions schedule in the usual sense, because the token is minted by borrowers rather than distributed. Borrowers pay interest, and the rate adjusts with market conditions and the token's distance from its peg. Governance by the Curve DAO decides how some of the protocol's revenue is handled, though readers should check current governance proposals for specifics rather than rely on a summary.

Chains and how it is held and traded

crvUSD is issued on Ethereum, where the core minting system lives, and has versions on several other networks, including Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, Gnosis Chain (listed as xDai), Fraxtal and Taiko. The availability of lending markets differs from chain to chain, and a version on another network may simply be a bridged or deployed token rather than a place to borrow.

In general terms, people hold crvUSD in a self-custody wallet that supports the network in question. It trades in Curve pools and on other decentralized exchanges, and it may be listed on some centralized exchanges and wallet apps. Moving it between chains normally requires a bridge or a supported cross-chain route, which adds its own fees and technical risk. Always confirm you are using the correct token contract and the correct network before sending funds, since lookalike tokens exist across chains.

History and notable events

crvUSD has stayed close to $1 for most of its life. The recorded low was about $0.949 in August 2023, and the recorded high was about $1.11 in June 2024. Both are small swings compared with ordinary crypto assets but are still meaningful for a stablecoin. Over the past year at the time of writing, the price barely moved, with changes under one percent.

The 2023 dip came during a period of stress around Curve itself, when a vulnerability in some of its pools and concerns about a large CRV-backed loan position drew wide attention to the platform. public data does not give a launch date, so none is stated here. Anyone interested in the history should read the project's own documentation and governance forums, as the design and accepted collateral have changed over time.

Risks

Stablecoins can lose their peg, and crvUSD is no exception, as the historical low shows. Specific risks include:

  • Smart contract risk: bugs in the minting, liquidation or savings contracts, or in the pools it depends on, could cause losses.
  • Collateral risk: a sharp fall in the price of deposited assets can lead to liquidations, and in extreme cases the system could be left with bad debt.
  • Governance risk: decisions by the Curve DAO, including changes to collateral and parameters, can alter the risk profile.
  • Concentration risk: the token is closely tied to Curve's ecosystem, so trouble at Curve can affect it.
  • Bridge and chain risk: versions on other networks depend on the security of their bridges.
  • Liquidation risk for borrowers: even with gradual liquidation, borrowers can lose part of their collateral.

Nothing here is financial advice, and this page makes no prediction about price.

How to store it safely

If you hold crvUSD, use a wallet you control, ideally a hardware wallet for larger amounts, and keep the recovery phrase offline and never share it. Check that the wallet supports the network where your tokens sit, and send a small test transaction before moving a large amount.

Verify the token contract address from the project's official documentation instead of from a search result or a message from a stranger. Be cautious about approving token spending on unfamiliar sites, and review and revoke old approvals periodically. If you borrow, monitor your loan's health and leave a safety margin, since collateral prices can move quickly. Beware of fake support accounts, phishing links and impersonation tokens, which are common around well-known DeFi projects.

By the numbers

crvUSD in numbers

crvUSD (CRVUSD) is ranked #200 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $150M and a price of $0.9977 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($150M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 0.1% over 7 days, down 0.2% over 30 days, down 0.2% over the past year. It trades about 10% below its all-time high of $1.11, set on Jun 12, 2024.

About 149.87M CRVUSD are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $33.1M, or 22% of its market cap: high turnover.

CRVUSD has token contracts on 9 chains we track, including Ethereum, xDai, Fraxtal, Optimism. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

CRVUSD FAQs

What is crvUSD?

crvUSD is a decentralized stablecoin from Curve Finance that aims to track the US dollar. It is minted when users borrow against crypto collateral locked in Curve's smart contracts.

Is crvUSD backed by real dollars?

No. It is a crypto-collateralized stablecoin, so its value rests on on-chain collateral and market mechanisms rather than bank reserves. It has traded slightly off $1 at times, including a low near $0.949 in 2023.

How do you mint crvUSD?

A user deposits supported crypto collateral into a Curve lending market and borrows crvUSD against it. The loan must be kept sufficiently collateralized, or the collateral is gradually converted by the LLAMMA mechanism and may be partly lost.

What is LLAMMA?

LLAMMA is Curve's liquidation design for crvUSD. It shifts collateral into crvUSD gradually as prices fall and back again if prices recover, instead of selling everything in a single step.

Which blockchains support crvUSD?

The project's documentation says it runs on Ethereum and is also issued on networks including Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, Gnosis Chain, Fraxtal and Taiko. Always check the network before sending.

Is crvUSD the same as CRV?

No. It is a separate token. crvUSD is a stablecoin, while CRV is Curve's governance and incentive token. CRV holders vote on how the protocol, including crvUSD, is managed.

What is the market cap of crvUSD?

As of Nov 6, 2026, crvUSD had a market cap of about $150M, ranking #200 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of CRVUSD?

crvUSD's all-time high is $1.11, reached on Jun 12, 2024. Its all-time low is $0.9490 (Aug 7, 2023). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of CRVUSD?

As of Nov 6, 2026, about 149.87M CRVUSD were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.

Which blockchains is CRVUSD on?
