What Spark (SPK) is

Spark (SPK) is the governance token of the Spark protocol, a DeFi project in the Sky ecosystem (the protocol formerly known as MakerDAO). Spark describes itself as an onchain capital allocator. It borrows stablecoin liquidity from Sky's reserves and deploys it across DeFi, CeFi and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), aiming to give DeFi steadier liquidity and more predictable yields.

The project's own description lists several products. SparkLend is a stablecoin lending market in which rates are set by governance rather than moving with utilization or loan size. Spark Savings lets users convert stablecoins such as USDC and USDS into yield-bearing tokens like sUSDS and sUSDC. The Spark Liquidity Layer (SLL) is a backend system that routes liquidity to other protocols and supports the products above.

SPK itself is not the yield token. It sits above the products as the asset tied to the protocol's governance and its incentive design. At the time of writing, it ranks around 402 by market cap.

What the token is used for

Public sources describe SPK as a governance and staking token for the Spark protocol. Holders can vote on protocol updates. Some sources also say staking SPK earns Spark Points, which may feed into future rewards, though the details of any such program can change and should be checked against official Spark documentation.

SPK is separate from the products people use for yield. Someone depositing USDC into Spark Savings receives a yield-bearing stablecoin token, not SPK. Holding SPK is mainly a bet on, and a voice in, how the protocol is run: which assets are supported, how rates are set and how liquidity is allocated.

The exact fee or revenue rights attached to SPK are not stated in the data reviewed here, so this page does not claim that holders receive protocol income. Check the current governance forums and documentation before assuming any economic rights.

Supply and tokenomics

SPK has a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion tokens, and the total supply equals that maximum. As of 2026-11-05, about 3.42 billion SPK were circulating, roughly 34% of the total.

That gap matters. Market cap was about $57.8M, while fully diluted valuation (price multiplied by the full 10 billion) was about $169.2M. If the remaining tokens enter circulation, the market must absorb them, which can add selling pressure all else equal.

Third-party tokenomics pages say Spark uses linear vesting, particularly for the Sky Farming (user) allocation, meaning tokens are released in equal amounts over time rather than all at once. The precise allocation percentages and unlock calendar are not in the data used here, so check the official tokenomics documentation for the current schedule.

Chains and how it is traded

SPK is issued on Ethereum as a standard token, and it is not the native coin of any blockchain. It can be held in any Ethereum-compatible wallet, and trades on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges that list the Ethereum token.

As of 2026-11-05, 24-hour trading volume was about $4.6M, modest compared with the market cap, so large orders can move the price noticeably on thinner venues. Spark's yield products, such as sUSDS and sUSDC, are described as available across several chains, but that does not mean SPK itself is native to those chains. Always confirm the correct contract address from official sources before swapping or bridging, since lookalike tokens are common.

History and notable events

Spark grew out of the Sky (formerly Maker) ecosystem and has been presented as the lending and liquidity arm of that system. SPK was introduced in 2025, and the token was also tied to a Binance HODLer airdrop, as listed in market data categories. The exact launch date is not stated in the data here.

Price history shows a sharp decline from the peak. SPK's all-time high was about $0.184, recorded on 2025-07-23. Its all-time low was about $0.0130, recorded on 2026-08-19. As of 2026-11-05 the price was about $0.0169, roughly 42.6% lower than a year earlier and about 6.1% lower over the previous seven days. This describes past movement only and says nothing about what comes next.

Risks

Price and supply risk. The token has fallen far from its high, and roughly two-thirds of the supply is not yet circulating, so future unlocks may weigh on the price.

Smart contract risk. Spark's products rely on code, and on integrations with Sky and other protocols. A bug or exploit in any connected system could affect users.

Counterparty and asset risk. Spark deploys capital into DeFi, CeFi and RWAs. CeFi and RWA exposure introduces issuers, custodians and legal structures that sit outside pure onchain code.

Governance risk. Token voting can concentrate power among large holders, and governance decisions on rates or collateral can change the risk profile.

Dependence on Sky. Spark's liquidity comes largely from Sky's reserves, so problems there could spill over.

Marketing claims and price predictions found online are unreliable. Nothing here is financial advice.

How to store SPK safely

Because SPK is an Ethereum token, any wallet that supports Ethereum can hold it. For meaningful amounts, a hardware wallet keeps private keys offline and reduces the risk of malware theft. Write your recovery phrase on paper or metal, store it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone.

Keep a small amount of ETH for network fees. Verify the token contract address from official Spark channels before interacting, and be wary of unsolicited airdrop claims, since fake claim sites target holders of newly distributed tokens. Review and revoke old token approvals periodically, especially after using DeFi apps.

Leaving tokens on an exchange means the exchange controls the keys. That can be convenient for trading, but self-custody gives you direct control, along with full responsibility for security.

By the numbers

Spark in numbers

Spark (SPK) is ranked #403 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $56.5M and a price of $0.0165 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $165M, so roughly 34% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 3.7% over 7 days, down 27.9% over 30 days, down 47.3% over the past year. It trades about 91% below its all-time high of $0.1845, set on Jul 23, 2025.

About 3.42B SPK are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 10B (34% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $4.18M, or 7.4% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

SPK has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

SPK is linked to Spark Savings, which we cover in our Yield Aggregator rankings. See our Spark Savings page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

SPK FAQs

What is Spark (SPK) used for?

SPK is the governance token of the Spark protocol, part of the Sky ecosystem. Holders can vote on protocol decisions, and public sources say staking SPK can earn Spark Points. Spark's yield products use separate tokens such as sUSDS and sUSDC.

What is the supply of SPK?

SPK has a maximum and total supply of 10 billion tokens. As of 2026-11-05, about 3.42 billion were circulating, or roughly a third of the total, with the rest subject to vesting and release over time.

Which blockchain does SPK run on?

SPK is issued on Ethereum and is not the native coin of its own blockchain. It can be held in Ethereum-compatible wallets. Spark's yield tokens are described as available across multiple chains, but that applies to those products, not SPK itself.

Is SPK the same as Spark Savings?

Spark Savings is a product where you deposit stablecoins such as USDC or USDS and receive a yield-bearing token like sUSDS or sUSDC. SPK is the separate governance token. Holding SPK is not required to use Spark Savings.

Why is SPK so far below its all-time high?

SPK reached an all-time high of about $0.184 on 2025-07-23 and an all-time low of about $0.0130 on 2026-08-19. As of 2026-11-05 it traded around $0.0169. Reasons include its volatility, a large share of supply not yet in circulation and broader market conditions. This is not a prediction.
