What Monad is

Monad is a Layer 1 blockchain built to run Ethereum-style applications faster and at lower cost. It is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), so apps written for Ethereum can run on it without code changes, and users can connect with familiar wallets such as MetaMask. The project describes a target of about 10,000 transactions per second with very low fees.

The main technical idea is parallel execution. Instead of processing transactions strictly one after another, Monad works on several at once. It also separates agreement from execution: validators first agree on which transactions to include and in what order, then have more time to carry them out without slowing consensus. A custom database called MonadDB is meant to support this throughput. The network is also designed to run on consumer-grade hardware, which the team says lowers the barrier for people who want to help secure it.

MON is the network's native token. Data aggregators group it under Layer 1 tokens, smart contract platforms and parallelized EVM projects. As of 2026-11-05 it ranked around 165th by market capitalization.

What MON is used for

As the native token of the Monad chain, MON is the asset used to pay transaction fees, often called gas. Fees are described as very low, but they still need to be paid in MON.

Secondary sources also say MON is used for staking, governance and settlement within the ecosystem, and one of them cites staking rewards above 10 percent. Treat reward figures like that with caution: rates depend on network conditions, validator choice and token emissions, and they can change. Check current staking terms in an official source before relying on any number.

Beyond those roles, the public material focuses on the type of applications the chain targets: high-frequency activity such as DeFi, games and other apps that need cheap, fast transactions. Specific products and integrations come and go, so it is better to look at the live Monad ecosystem than to rely on a static list.

Supply and tokenomics

Figures below are approximate and as of 2026-11-05. Circulating supply was about 11.8 billion MON, while total supply was about 100.7 billion. No maximum supply is listed in the data. That gap matters: the market capitalization was about $209.6 million, but the fully diluted valuation, which assumes all tokens exist and trade, was about $1.78 billion.

In other words, only a small share of the total supply was in circulation at that point. The rest is subject to vesting schedules. One tokenomics summary says Monad uses cliff vesting for some allocations, notably ecosystem development, meaning tokens unlock in a lump after a waiting period rather than gradually. Large unlocks can add selling pressure, so readers should look up the official allocation and unlock schedule rather than assume a smooth release.

The price was around $0.018 at the time of writing, with about $16.7 million traded over 24 hours. The data shows a 7-day change of roughly -13 percent. These numbers move constantly and are included only for context.

Chains, wallets and trading

MON is the native asset of the Monad blockchain itself, so it is not issued as a token on another chain. To use it for fees or staking, you generally hold it in a wallet that supports Monad. Because the network is EVM-compatible, common Ethereum-style wallets can be pointed at it, though you should add the network settings from official documentation.

MON trades on centralized exchanges, and the public token sale involved Coinbase, according to a news headline from November 2025. On-chain, it can be swapped on decentralized exchanges that have deployed to Monad. Availability, trading pairs and fees vary by platform and region, so check what your chosen venue supports.

When moving MON, make sure you are using the correct network. Sending tokens to an address on the wrong chain is a common and often unrecoverable mistake. A small test transfer before a larger one is a sensible habit.

History and notable events

Monad was developed by a team that raised about $244 million across several rounds, according to the project description. A seed round of $19 million in February 2023 was led by Dragonfly Capital, followed by a $225 million Series A in April 2024 led by Paradigm at a $3 billion valuation. Data aggregators also list Animoca Brands, Coinbase Ventures and Galaxy Digital among portfolio holders.

The token sale ran in November 2025. A headline reports that it closed oversubscribed on Coinbase, raising about $270 million from roughly 85,000 participants, after earlier commentary that the sale had struggled. The recorded all-time high of about $0.0488 came on 2025-11-26, and the all-time low of about $0.0164 on 2026-02-05. As of 2026-11-05 the price sat close to that low, well under the high.

The data does not give an exact mainnet launch date, so this page does not state one.

Risks to understand

MON is a young, volatile asset. Price swings of double digits in a week are not unusual, and the price was far below its high at the time of writing. Nothing here is a prediction or advice to buy or sell.

Specific risks to weigh:

  • Dilution and unlocks: a large gap between circulating and total supply means future releases could weigh on the market.
  • Technical risk: parallel execution and a custom database are newer designs than those of long-running chains, and performance claims such as 10,000 transactions per second are targets that should be judged against real network behavior.
  • Competition: many Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks, including other EVM-compatible chains, compete for the same developers and users.
  • Ecosystem risk: activity depends on apps and liquidity choosing to build and stay on Monad.
  • Concentration: early investors and insiders may hold large allocations.

Be skeptical of staking yield claims and of any site promising returns.

How to store MON safely

For small amounts you plan to trade, an exchange account is convenient, but you rely on the exchange's security. For longer-term holding, a self-custody wallet gives you control of your keys. A hardware wallet that supports EVM networks is a common choice, since Monad uses Ethereum-style addresses.

Write down your recovery phrase offline and never type it into a website, share it in a chat or store it in a cloud note. No legitimate support team will ask for it. Verify the network and token details from official project channels before adding a network to your wallet, and be wary of fake airdrop pages and lookalike token contracts, which are common around new launches.

If you stake MON, understand the lock-up and unbonding terms first, and approve only the smart contract permissions you need. You can revoke old approvals later using a token approval checker. Enable two-factor authentication on any exchange account, preferably with an authenticator app rather than SMS.

By the numbers

Monad in numbers

Monad (MON) is ranked #159 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $203M and a price of $0.0172 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $1.73B, so roughly 12% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 12.9% over 7 days, down 36.8% over 30 days. It trades about 65% below its all-time high of $0.0488, set on Nov 26, 2025.

About 11.83B MON are in circulation, from a total supply of 100.68B. No hard maximum supply is listed.

24-hour trading volume was about $16.1M, or 7.9% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

MON is the native token of Monad. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
