What Bitget Token is

Bitget Token (BGB) began as the platform token of the Bitget cryptocurrency exchange and the Bitget Wallet app. According to the project description, it launched in 2021 and was originally an exchange token, the kind of asset that gives holders perks on one trading platform.

Its role has since widened. In September 2025 Bitget agreed a strategic partnership with Morph, a layer-2 chain built on Ethereum. BGB is now described as the main token of the Morph network, where it serves as the gas, governance and payment token. The Morph Foundation, a non-profit organisation, is described as solely responsible for the token's future development.

In practice that makes BGB an unusual hybrid. It is still tied to Bitget's products, but its long-term direction now rests with a separate foundation and a separate blockchain. It is catalogued as an exchange token and as the native token of Morph. At the time of writing it ranks around 67th by market capitalisation, so it is a mid-sized asset rather than a top-tier one.

What BGB is used for

BGB has two groups of uses, one tied to the Morph chain and one tied to exchange and wallet partners.

On Morph: the token pays gas fees for transactions, lets holders take part in governance votes, and works as a payment token across the layer. As more BGB moves onto Morph, these roles are expected to carry more weight.

With partners: the project description says exchanges and wallets that support BGB can use it for Launchpool-style token mining, where users lock a token to earn rewards in new listings, as well as fee discounts and similar benefits. The exact perks differ by platform and can change, so anyone interested should read the current terms on the service they use rather than assume a benefit still applies.

The data does not list further uses such as staking yields or revenue sharing, so none are claimed here. BGB is not a stablecoin and does not represent a claim on any company's assets or profits. Its usefulness depends on demand for Morph blockchain activity and on how long partners keep offering BGB-related benefits.

Supply and tokenomics

The project description says BGB's initial supply was fixed at 2 billion tokens, and that figure is also its maximum supply in the data. At the time of writing, as of 2026-11-05, the total supply is about 907.9 million and the circulating supply is about 700 million. Total supply sitting well below the 2 billion cap points to tokens having been permanently removed through burns.

The Morph Foundation is described as planning to update the burn mechanism and link it to Morph network activity. The stated goal is to keep reducing total BGB supply until it reaches 100 million. That is a target described by the project, not a guarantee, and its pace depends on how the mechanism is designed and how much the network is used.

On valuation, the data shows a price of about $1.76, a market capitalisation of about $1.23 billion and a fully diluted valuation of about $1.59 billion. The gap between them reflects the roughly 208 million tokens that exist but are not counted as circulating. The data does not explain who holds those tokens or on what schedule they might be released, so that is worth checking in official materials.

Chains and how it is held and traded

BGB was first issued on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token. That means any Ethereum-compatible wallet can hold it, and it relies on Ethereum's proof-of-stake security rather than a separate consensus system of its own. The data lists Ethereum as the issuing chain and Morph as the chain it is native to.

The project description says a growing share of BGB will be migrated to Morph, where it works as the gas token. Holders should therefore expect to see BGB in more than one place: as an ERC-20 on Ethereum and as a native asset on Morph. Moving between the two requires a bridge or an exchange withdrawal that supports the right network, and sending tokens on the wrong network is a common way to lose funds.

In general terms, BGB is traded on centralised exchanges, with Bitget the most obvious venue, and it can be held in a self-custody wallet or left on an exchange account. Trading volume was about $10.8 million over 24 hours as of 2026-11-05, which is modest next to its market capitalisation. Thin volume can mean wider spreads and larger price moves on bigger orders.

History and notable events

The project description dates BGB's launch to 2021 as Bitget's platform token. The price data reaches back further, with a recorded low of about $0.0143 on 2020-06-24. The data does not explain that earlier period, so it should not be read as the launch date.

The price peaked at about $8.45 on 2024-12-27. As of 2026-11-05 it was around $1.76, down roughly 58% over one year and about 5% over the past seven days. Those moves show how much the token's value has swung.

The most notable structural event is the September 2025 partnership between Bitget and Morph. Under it, the Morph Foundation took over responsibility for BGB's development, the token became the gas and governance asset of the Morph chain, and a plan was set out to tie burns to network activity. The Bitget leadership named in the project description includes CEO Gracy Chen, COO Vugar Usi Zade and CLO Hon Ng. Beyond these points, public sources do not give a detailed timeline, and this page does not fill the gaps with guesses.

Risks to understand

BGB carries the usual risks of a crypto asset, plus some specific to its structure.

  • Price volatility: a fall of about 58% in a year and a peak far above today's level show how large the swings can be.
  • Concentrated dependence: demand is linked to Bitget's products and to Morph's adoption. If either loses users, the token's utility weakens.
  • Governance and transition risk: development passed to the Morph Foundation, and the burn mechanism is still described as something to be updated. Plans can change or be delayed.
  • Supply overhang: about 208 million tokens are in total supply but not circulating, and the data does not say how they will be released.
  • Liquidity: daily volume is small relative to market value, so large trades may move the price.
  • Platform and bridge risk: exchanges can freeze withdrawals or fail, and bridges between Ethereum and Morph can have technical flaws.
  • Regulatory risk: exchange tokens have drawn regulatory attention in various countries, and rules differ by location.

How to store BGB safely

Because BGB is an ERC-20 token, it can sit in most Ethereum wallets. Two broad options exist: leaving it on an exchange or holding it yourself.

An exchange account is convenient for trading, but you rely on the platform's security and solvency and on its decisions about withdrawals. Self-custody puts you in control, but also in charge of the consequences of mistakes.

If you self-custody, these habits reduce the risk:

  • Use a hardware wallet for any amount you would be upset to lose, and keep the recovery phrase offline, never in a photo, cloud note or message.
  • Check the token contract address against official project sources before adding or buying it, since imitation tokens exist.
  • Confirm which network a withdrawal or deposit uses, Ethereum or Morph, and send a small test amount first.
  • Be careful with token approvals on decentralised apps and revoke ones you no longer need.
  • Ignore unsolicited messages offering support, airdrops or migration help, and never share your recovery phrase with anyone.

Keep a record of which wallet and network holds your tokens as the Morph migration continues.

By the numbers

Bitget Token in numbers

Bitget Token (BGB) is ranked #67 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $1.22B and a price of $1.74 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $1.58B, so roughly 77% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 5.3% over 7 days, down 13.1% over 30 days, down 58.3% over the past year. It trades about 79% below its all-time high of $8.45, set on Dec 27, 2024.

About 699.99M BGB are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 2B (35% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $12.5M, or 1.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

BGB is the native token of Morph; it also has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
