Our verdict on Timeswap V2

5.2/10

Timeswap V2 is worth a look for experienced DeFi users who want fixed-term lending and borrowing against any ERC-20 token without an oracle. Its main strength is that design, plus broad multi-chain deployment. The main caveat is risk: TVL is only around $275,000, no audits are listed, and fees and team details are not published. Treat it as an experimental protocol, and size positions accordingly.

What is Timeswap V2?

Timeswap V2 is a DeFi lending and borrowing protocol. It describes itself as the first oracleless lending protocol and says it enables money markets for any ERC-20 token.

According to DeFiLlama, it is deployed on Hyperliquid, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, Optimism, Mantle, Ethereum, X Layer, Polygon zkEVM and Injective EVM. It has been tracked since February 2023 and has a token, TIME.

Activity is modest. Total value locked is roughly $275,000, up about 0.8% over seven days. The TIME token trades at a fraction of a cent with very low daily volume, and the protocol's tracking entry lists no audits.

How Timeswap V2 works

Most lending protocols pool deposits and use a price oracle to value collateral. If collateral falls too far, a liquidator closes the loan. Timeswap V2 is described as oracleless, so it avoids that price-feed step.

In this kind of design, loans are generally set with a fixed term. A borrower posts collateral and takes a loan that must be repaid by a set maturity date. Lenders earn interest for providing the funds. If the borrower repays, the collateral is returned. If they do not, the collateral is forfeited to the lenders, so no market price needs to be consulted along the way.

Because markets can be created for any ERC-20 token, pairs are not limited to assets that have reliable oracles. That widens choice, but it also means each market's quality depends on the tokens involved.

4 features

Key features

01

Oracleless design

Loans do not depend on an external price oracle, which removes oracle manipulation as an attack route.

02

Any ERC-20 markets

Money markets can be created for any ERC-20 token, not only a curated list of large assets.

03

Multi-chain deployment

The protocol is deployed on ten networks including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and Polygon.

04

Public pool dashboards

The project publishes public dashboards of pool activity, so users can check usage themselves.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Oracleless design avoids dependence on price feeds, a common point of failure in lending protocols
  • Markets can be created for any ERC-20 token, giving flexibility for long-tail assets
  • Deployed on ten networks, including several low-cost layer-2s
  • Has been live and tracked since early 2023
  • Public dashboards for pool-level activity let users check usage

Watch out for

  • Total value locked is only about $275,000, so markets may be thin and exits harder for larger positions
  • No audits are listed for the protocol in the tracking data
  • Permissionless markets for any ERC-20 mean low-quality or illiquid collateral is possible
  • The TIME token trades at a very small market cap and low volume
  • The team, fee schedule and governance details are not available from the sources reviewed
  • The model differs from mainstream lending apps, so newcomers can misjudge maturity and collateral-forfeiture risk

Timeswap V2 fees

Timeswap does not publish a fee schedule in the sources reviewed. Users would see borrowing rates, lending yields and any protocol fees in the app's market interface before confirming a position.

On top of protocol fees, users pay network gas on whichever chain they use. Gas costs are much lower on layer-2 networks such as Arbitrum, Base or Optimism than on Ethereum mainnet.

Is Timeswap V2 safe?

No audits are listed for Timeswap V2 in the tracking data, and the sources reviewed do not describe a bug bounty or insurance. Smart-contract risk should therefore be treated as unverified. Lending positions are held in contracts, so a bug could lead to loss of funds.

The oracleless model removes oracle manipulation risk, but it creates its own risks: collateral can be forfeited at maturity, and permissionless markets can include thinly traded or malicious tokens. Users keep custody through their own wallet. The project does not publish regulatory status or team details in the sources reviewed.

6 steps

How to get started with Timeswap V2

  1. 1

Confirm that using DeFi lending protocols is allowed where you live and that you are of legal age.

  2. 2

Reach the official Timeswap app through the project's verified social account rather than search ads, to avoid fake sites.

  3. 3

Set up a self-custody wallet and fund it with the ERC-20 tokens and gas token for your chosen network.

  4. 4

Review the pool or market you want, noting the token pair, maturity date, collateral terms and quoted rate.

  5. 5

Start with a small amount to learn how maturity and repayment work before committing more.

  6. 6

Track the position, and repay or withdraw before maturity if you want to avoid losing collateral or missing the repayment window.

Who Timeswap V2 is for

Timeswap V2 suits experienced DeFi users who understand fixed-term loans, wallet security and smart-contract risk, and who want lending markets for tokens that mainstream protocols do not list. It is a poor fit for beginners or for anyone who needs deep liquidity or audited, battle-tested infrastructure.

Timeswap V2 FAQs

What is Timeswap V2?

Timeswap V2 is a DeFi lending and borrowing protocol that describes itself as oracleless. It lets money markets be created for any ERC-20 token without relying on external price feeds.

Which blockchains does Timeswap V2 support?

The tracking data lists Hyperliquid, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, Optimism, Mantle, Ethereum, X Layer, Polygon zkEVM and Injective EVM. Liquidity is spread across these, so individual markets may be small.

What does oracleless lending mean?

Oracleless means the protocol does not read a price feed to decide when to liquidate a loan. Instead, loan terms such as collateral and maturity are fixed when a position is opened, and the borrower either repays or gives up the collateral.

Has Timeswap V2 been audited?

The tracking data does not list any audits for Timeswap V2. Anyone considering it should look for audit reports from the project directly and treat the smart-contract risk as unverified until they find them.

Does Timeswap have a token?

TIME is the protocol's token according to the tracking data. Its price and trading volume are very small, so liquidity for buying or selling it is limited.

Is Timeswap V2 safe to use?

Not necessarily. Total value locked is a few hundred thousand dollars, no audits are listed, and the mechanism is less common than pooled lending. It suits experienced DeFi users who understand fixed-term loans and can accept the risk of losing funds.
