Babylon Genesis is a standalone Layer 1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK. Its main purpose is to connect Bitcoin to proof-of-stake systems. Bitcoin holders can stake BTC using Taproot outputs on the Bitcoin network, and Babylon Genesis coordinates that staking and the finality signals around it. The chain is not EVM-based. It uses Cosmos tooling such as IBC and CosmWasm, so it works differently from Ethereum-style networks.
The native token is BABY. It is used to pay network fees and to take part in the chain's own proof-of-stake security. Fees are paid in BABY, so you need a small balance to use apps directly on the chain. Native DeFi activity is still small: total value locked in DeFi was only about $210,759 at the time of writing.
The ecosystem is built around Bitcoin staking and restaking, not trading or games.
