What Babylon and BABY are
Babylon is a protocol that aims to let Bitcoin holders help secure other proof-of-stake blockchains without giving up custody of their coins or moving them onto another network. Public descriptions say it does this through native Bitcoin staking, where BTC is locked using Bitcoin scripts, and through timestamping, where data from other chains is anchored to the Bitcoin blockchain. The research behind it is said to come from the Stanford Tse Lab.
BABY is the native token of Babylon Genesis, the chain that coordinates this system. The idea is that Bitcoin supplies the economic security, while the Babylon Genesis chain handles the coordination, rewards and governance around it. Babylon sits in the category often called BTCfi, which covers products that try to put idle Bitcoin to work. Data providers also tag it with liquid staking and DeFi labels.
This page is an explainer, not a recommendation. Public information here come from public descriptions and market data, and some details, such as the exact launch date, are not stated in the data we have.
What the token is used for
According to public sources, BABY has a few functions on the Babylon Genesis chain. It pays transaction fees, it is used for governance votes, and it serves as the reward asset for participants. One source describes BABY as the only means of payment through which Bitcoin stakers are rewarded, so those who lock BTC are paid in BABY rather than in more Bitcoin.
BABY can also be staked on Babylon Genesis to help secure that chain, in the usual proof-of-stake manner. Staking pages for the token advertise reward rates, and one lists a figure of up to about 19.57%. Such rates depend on network conditions and can change, so treat them as a snapshot rather than a promise.
Beyond these points, the exact mechanics of reward distribution and how the protocol's participants are chosen are best read in the project's own documentation, which is more reliable than third-party summaries.
Supply and tokenomics
As of 2026-11-05, BABY had a circulating supply of about 5.18 billion tokens and a total supply of about 11.06 billion. No maximum supply is listed in the data, so we cannot say whether the supply is capped. At the time of writing the market capitalization was about $63.1 million, while the fully diluted valuation was about $134.6 million. The gap between the two reflects tokens that exist but are not yet in circulation.
That gap matters. If a large share of the remaining supply is released over time, for example through unlocks for investors, team members or ecosystem programs, new tokens could enter the market. The data we have does not include an allocation breakdown or an unlock schedule, so check the project's published tokenomics before drawing conclusions.
Data providers also tag BABY as part of a Binance HODLer airdrop, which suggests some tokens were distributed to users of that exchange at launch.
Chains, holding and trading
BABY is the native token of Babylon Genesis, a proof-of-stake chain. The data lists no other chains where it is issued, so most activity is expected to happen on Babylon Genesis itself. Holders there can send tokens, stake them with validators and vote on proposals using a compatible wallet.
BABY is also traded on centralized exchanges, which is how most people encounter it. At the time of writing, 24-hour trading volume was about $5.5 million, a modest figure compared with the market cap. The token ranked about 376th by market cap as of 2026-11-05.
One practical point from the project's wallet documentation: BABY unbonding, meaning the process of withdrawing staked tokens, is a multi-step process, and wallets are expected to explain each step to users. Unbonding periods are common in proof-of-stake systems, so staked tokens are usually not available instantly.
History and notable events
Babylon drew attention as a project aimed at Bitcoin staking, and its investor list is prominent. Data providers show it in the portfolios of Paradigm, Polychain Capital, Galaxy Digital, OKX Ventures and YZi Labs, previously Binance Labs. Inclusion in a portfolio is not an endorsement of quality or a sign of future performance.
On the market side, the token's all-time high was about $0.166 on 2025-04-12, and its all-time low was about $0.0095 on 2026-08-16. At the time of writing, the price was about $0.0122, roughly 93% below the high. Over the past year it was down about 45%, and over the past seven days it was down about 9%. These figures describe past movement only and say nothing about what comes next.
The launch date is not given in the data we have, so we do not state one here.
Risks to understand
Several risks apply. Price risk is the most visible: the token has fallen sharply from its peak and can move quickly in either direction. Supply risk comes from the large share of tokens not yet circulating, which may add selling pressure when released.
There is also technical risk. Babylon relies on new cryptographic designs and on coordination between Bitcoin and other chains. Bugs in contracts, scripts, wallets or the chain itself could cause losses. Staked tokens may be locked during unbonding, so you might not be able to exit quickly in a falling market. Slashing, where a staker loses funds for validator misbehavior, is a standard feature of proof-of-stake systems and worth understanding before delegating.
Finally, there are counterparty risks if you hold BABY on an exchange, and regulatory risks around staking products in some jurisdictions. Staking rewards are not guaranteed and are paid in a token whose value can change.
How to store it safely
For a small amount you plan to trade, an exchange account is the easiest route, but you rely on the exchange to hold your keys. For longer-term holding, a self-custody wallet that supports Babylon Genesis gives you control of the keys. Write down the recovery phrase offline, never share it, and do not store it in a photo or cloud note.
If you stake, pick validators carefully and spread delegations if the amount is large. Check the unbonding period before you commit. Bookmark the official wallet and staking pages yourself rather than following links in messages, since phishing and fake airdrop sites are common around newer tokens. Test with a small transaction first, and consider a hardware wallet if it is supported for the chain you use.
Nothing here is financial advice, and you should only commit money you can afford to lose.
By the numbers
