Good

Our verdict on Arkis

6.5/10

Arkis suits institutional asset managers, funds and professional lenders who want credit, execution, custody and staking under one portfolio margin across crypto and traditional venues. Its main strength is the unified margin and netting model with 24/7 settlement. The main caveats are that it excludes retail users, does not publish pricing, and has very small on-chain TVL. Anyone eligible should read the audits and documentation, and understand leverage risk, before committing capital.

What is Arkis?

Arkis is a prime broker for digital markets. Its homepage lists credit, direct market access, OTC derivatives, staking and custody, all under one portfolio margin and one API. DefiLlama classifies it as a lending protocol and says it provides on-chain loans to institutional asset managers from the protocol's lenders.

The pitch is capital efficiency. Positions across centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, on-chain venues and traditional markets are margined together, with up to 5x leverage cited against a diversified portfolio. The site names Binance, OKX, Hyperliquid, US equities and CME futures as examples of connected venues.

The on-chain footprint is small. DefiLlama shows about $65,850 in TVL on Hyperliquid and Ethereum, with a listing date of February 2025, and no token. The service is for professionals: the disclaimer states the site is for sophisticated or institutional investors and that Arkis does not serve retail counterparties.

How Arkis works

Arkis works as a prime broker. A client posts collateral and receives margin loans or credit lines against the whole portfolio. Positions can sit on centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, on-chain venues and traditional markets, and the collateral can stay where each market requires it while still counting toward one portfolio.

The homepage says Arkis nets gains on one venue against losses on another when calculating margin. This lets the same book require less collateral, with up to 5x leverage cited against a diversified portfolio. USDC and USD settle around the clock, so margin can be rebalanced without waiting for banking hours.

On the funding side, institutional lenders deploy capital through Arkis under a unified risk system. DefiLlama describes the protocol as providing on-chain loans to institutional asset managers from the protocol's lenders. Lenders earn returns for providing that credit, and they take on counterparty and credit risk.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Single portfolio margin across centralized, decentralized, on-chain and traditional venues
  • Netting of gains and losses across venues can reduce collateral needs
  • Round-the-clock USDC and USD settlement
  • Security measures listed include MPC wallets, smart contract audits, on-chain monitoring and SOC 2 Type I
  • Two audits listed on DefiLlama
  • Clear disclosure that the service is institutional-only

Watch out for

  • Aimed at sophisticated and institutional clients only; the disclaimer says retail counterparties are not serviced
  • Fees, interest rates and lender yields are not published
  • On-chain TVL is very small (about $65,850 per DefiLlama), so the on-chain lending pool is tiny compared with the breadth of services described
  • Up to 5x leverage magnifies losses and liquidation risk
  • Availability depends on jurisdiction and on which Arkis legal entity offers each product
  • No governance or utility token, so there is no token-based way to take part

Arkis fees

Arkis does not publish fees, borrow rates or lender yields on the pages reviewed. Pricing for credit, direct market access, OTC derivatives, staking and custody appears to be arranged with the client, so prospective users would need to contact Arkis or consult its documentation.

The homepage says netting gains and losses across venues reduces required collateral. That is a capital-efficiency benefit, not a fee figure, and it does not replace the cost of borrowing.

Is Arkis safe?

Arkis lists MPC wallets, smart contract audits, access management, on-chain monitoring and a SOC 2 Type I certification. DefiLlama lists two audits. Type I covers the design of controls at a point in time, not their operation over a period, and the audit reports were not public reviewed.

Lending carries counterparty and credit risk: borrowers use leverage of up to 5x, and lenders depend on the risk framework and on liquidations working in volatile markets. Custody and positions on external exchanges add exposure to those venues. Regulatory treatment varies, and the disclaimer says product availability depends on jurisdiction and on which Arkis entity provides the service. This is not investment advice.

6 steps

How to get started with Arkis

  1. 1

Confirm you qualify as a sophisticated person or institutional investor, since retail clients are not serviced.

  2. 2

Read the Arkis documentation and the manifesto to understand the risk framework.

  3. 3

Check the Terms and Conditions and Disclaimer to see which Arkis legal entity serves your jurisdiction.

  4. 4

Contact an Arkis representative to go through onboarding, which the homepage describes as a single process.

  5. 5

Borrowers: agree collateral, credit terms and the venues to connect. Lenders: review the lending framework before deploying capital.

  6. 6

Review the published smart contract audits and security measures before committing funds.

Who Arkis is for

Arkis is for institutional asset managers, funds and sophisticated investors who run positions across several venues and want shared margin and credit. It also targets institutional lenders who want to supply capital under a governed risk framework. Retail users are explicitly not served.
